1. Hire a legitimate DC who runs a better pass rush scheme and who can maximize the man press CBs you have in stock right now... the entire front 7 scheme is a mess that overly relies on individual effort... the pass D is too predictable... then stay the **** out of the defense...

2. Add the best DT you can find ... honestly it is the biggest hole on D...

3. Replace Pat Meyers with a experienced OL coach.. but first decide what your young line does best and get a guy whose style fits that... dont have road graders trying to play finesse styles... dont have guys who best play with simple techniques trying complex, unorthadox stuff...

4. Add a true assistant head coach to the staff. Get more input on staff hires and Pawn off the stuff you dont want to do or just suck at... he could be the disciplinarian and in game strategist

5. And this will be the one everyone hates...
hire Antonio Brown to mentor Pickens..
I dont know why, but sometimes blending old crazy with new crazy works counter how people think...
and no one, not Ward, not Swann, not Stallworth.. no one has ever had the work ethic Brown did... he may simply relate better and get him to focus on what he needs to do to be great...

6. Draft another impact WR, then draft another guy late just to be safe

7. Sit down with every offensive mind you can find to get better concepts for O than just "eat clock and dont turn it over"
Set the direction the O needs to go then stay the **** out of the O

8. hire Danny smith an assistant STC who concentrates on returns... he does well on blocks, and usually good on coverages, but his return game is always subpar..
also whoever is calling for the short kickoffs trying to get great coverages, just tell them to stfu and kick it into the end zone... that burns us enough it isnt worth it...

As I pointed out 1,000 other threads, Tomlins ego will never allow any of this to happen. Any coordinator he hires has to be a yes man and will not challenge him. As for the DT, Tomlin would never use him, he runs that stupid hybrid Tampa 2 wannabe, with primarily 2 DL-4LB-5DB's then wonders why we allow the best rushing team in the NFL to run for 299 yards on us. This Ravens games was just like the Browns playoff game. We face the best running team in the NFL and we primarily use only 2 DL so we get physically beat down trying to stop the run, and they constantly ran left, just like Cleveland.

Tomlin isn't an HOF coach, he just happened to take over a very good team at the exact right time, LeBeau was DC, and Tomlin was so young LeBeau was actually allowed to run his scheme, he had a great roster and his OC ran his scheme.

All this started to go south as soon as Tomlin starting taking more control and those early 2000 players started to leave, and there is zero arguing that.

If he just goes to a base 3-4 or 4-3 it's a win. That 2 DL stuff is stupid beyond words. Does any other team in the NFL run that as their base? If there is one, I'm not aware of it.

I think alot of teams have a similar defense they use alot because it's a passing league, but those teams also are smart enough to know when you're about to face a team that runs better than anyone else you have to get more size on your line so you don't get blown off the LOS, Tomlin isn't that smart as it's been proven over and over again.

Do you think 5 straight losses to end the year, and really being dominated in all of them, wake Tomlin up to the need to change? I don't think the guy is an idiot. You gotta look at it and say, "This isn't working!", right? And if he doesn't or can't, man. I don't even know what to say.

I like the idea of adding the best DT. But they also gotta add, and play, a true NT. The NFL may be going back to more running the football. Look at those games played so far in the playoffs. 4 of the 5 teams that won had RBs go over 100.

I was listening to DK again this morning. Since they are gonna keep Tomlin, Rooney has to insist on coordinators and position coaches that are excellent but also with dominant personalities. His take, if I understood it right, is that Tomlin does discipline guys, that's not the issue, but he is actually hands off in the daily minutiae and wants his coaches to keep order. Well, you are hiring weak guys.

Scrap the Tampa 2 with 2 DL. Look at how well that worked for ... Tampa. They got beat by a rookie QB. The defenses who moved on all have 3 or 4 DL.

Cam's getting too old to play every down but is still our best DL.
Put a DL on either side of Benton, move Watt and Highsmith a little further out and put Queen in the middle, rotating with Wilson. Then rotate Herbig with Watt and Highsmith.
****, move Highsmith if you need to for a high draft pick.

Hire a REAL OL coach. And tap into a younger offensive coordinator. Someone rising on a team that is putting up high efficiency numbers on offense. While looking at Ben Johnson as a pipe dream, maybe see if Hank Fraley has what it takes to be an OC. He's doing a fine goddamned job with the Lions OL. And their offense is thriving as a result.

Defensively, we ****** ourselves letting Flores leave. However, maybe Larry Foote would like to come home. He's doing a good job with the Bucs linebackers.

Then tell Tomlin in no uncertain terms to let his coordinators do their goddamned jobs. Don't **** with them. Too many chefs in the kitchen ***** up the final product. As coach, he should stick to his motivational bullshit coach speak and focus on improving his own weaknesses - clock management and challenges.

the NFL's first DEI hire isnt going to be fired, no matter what we all want. His ego isnt going to allow him to step down. The only way we can get rid of him is if some other team offers a trade we can't turn down and is a place Tomlin might want to go.

I think he's an idiot and stubborn. This was the exact same thing that happened in the Cleveland playoff game, Tomlin is supposed to be a defensive guru, yet in that game facing the top rushing team in the NFL, he trots out his tampa 2 wannabee 2 DL defense and we get blown of the ball and Cleveland averages almost 5ypc, and just like Baltimore primarily running to the right side of our defense. This season we play philly with the best Oline in football and a 2,000 yard rusher, again 2 DL crap defense, we get blown off the ball, Philly holds the ball for 40+ mins, including the final 10+mins. Then we see the debacle Saturday.

This is the place we're stuck at. You can't fix it without removing the HC or making him a figurehead.

I personally don't get it. I would want to be surrounded by brilliant minds as a HC. It's never going to happen on his own accord.

You have to force it, and if the owner doesn't, then he's not really committed to getting his team back to elite status. Which if he actually was, this would have happened 8-10 years ago.

I thought 3 straight losses Should do the trick. Do you think 5 is the Magic number?

And this is exactly why there is zero buzz from the fans anymore, they know nothing is going to change

Schemes suck. players are not bought in. it showed on the field.

f Rooney is not going to make a change at the top, then demand change at scheme and philosophy.

So firing Tomlin is off the table? How about a "strongly recommended resignation"? No?

Okay then ...

STOP USING THE ******* 2-MAN DEFENSIVE LINE.

Switch to a 4-3. Watt and Highsmith are quite good OLBers - let them be OLBers. Queen or Payton Wilson MLB. Hey look, a defender actually in the middle of the field!!

Bring Minkah inside the box on some occasions and have him closer than 20 yards from the LOS on the others. No more 2-deep except on 3rd and very long. Wait, now TWO defenders in the middle of the field?!? Noooooo ...

Use the 7 or 8 man front on defense at least 4-5x per game where 4 or 5 rush and the others drop into coverage, like every other NFL team does. Get quick pressure with confusing the pass blocking.

On offense, get a RB who is not a "plodder." Make up your mind on the kind of running game you want - double team/power blocking, or zone blocking? Find the RB who fits that design.

Get a legit #2 WR, put Austin in the slot where he belongs.

Throw over the middle to TE and WR's on crossing patterns and slants. Pickens completion percentage on slants has to be about 80%.

Oh, and fire Mike Tomlin since he will do none of the above.

Schemes suck. players are not bought in. it showed on the field.

I think this is the biggest thing that's bothering me. You have play by play announcers that are calling it out. You can run your scheme all you want, but if you don't have ALL of your players buying into it, it's never going to work. I love Cam, but he is constantly sticking up for his buddy Tomlin saying the players need to execute better... But it's the same thing, year after year, "we need to execute better". Who is in charge of making sure that happens Cam????

Tomlin has had nearly a decade to realize his plans are **** and attempt to change/improve.

All he does is dig his heels in deeper and get worse with his conservative and archaic concepts.

He becomes more emboldened with every passing year sitting in his icy cool seat

There is absolutely nothing he wants to do to change as he is obviously the smartest man in every room he enters

There is one solution and it doesn’t involve Mike as he doesn’t even buy into his own rhetoric he spews to the players to start every season about how if they aren’t improving they won’t be around long.

He is nothing but lip service. **** Tomlin

schemes are ok, but that's where the coordinators come into play. they have to adjust to those schemes.

we do not adjust. force that square peg into the round hole.

That's Tomlin stubborn, what we do is good enough to beat anyone, we shouldn't ever have to adjust, just execute better.

This right here is why HE will never change his stance. And Rooney won't put enough pressure on him to make him feel like his seat is even remotely warm, let a lone hot. He's knows they won't fire him, and he isn't going to step down. So he can continue to be the definition of insanity (I should know). I wonder how many games into next year before we hear "fire Tomlin" chants at Penguins games.

None of this will happen unless Mikey Sunglasses is kicked the fizuck out of the organization.
we traded that albatross of @Hines57 in the text group. Certainly we can get rid of this dead weight too.

I think they need a seriously upgraded DL. Look at the last time the Steelers had a great run stopping team - they had Casey Hampton. Look at a few of the other teams with a giant NT that can play - most teams cannot run up the middle on them. Cam is terrific, but the Steelers sometimes keep people past their expiration date and Cam while not there yet, will be there soon. On offense, they need a FB, a REAL FB, not some 220# TE - someone like the Rats have, a 300# plus road grader. Remember Bettis had Kreider and Lester. Trying to be a running team without one is laughable. Those are two particular things to do, besides the obvious ones like getting WRs and coaching changes.

You'd think. The thing is with the other losses, there is always next week to deflect to. No next week now.

the NFL's first DEI hire isnt going to be fired, no matter what we all want

None of you sopping wet vaginas have much to offer in terms of substance while you flood this place with your tears. And that's really bad for the site

Everything is Tomlin fault according to you and that's what makes it obvious that you have some other hidden reason you're afraid to articulate when it comes to Coach Tomlin

Tomlin is one of the best coaches in the league. It isn't his fault the roster is middling and he doesn't have to be perfect

Also keep your DEI ***** in the politics forum where it belongs. Be a man and say what you really mean but don't try to sneak that ***** in here. You wreck this site, traffic goes down, and revenue suffers
