This happened last time we went to Ford Field.

This is sad that now two third round picks can’t see the field. Roman and Caleb the team has failed you.
I said it the other day and will say it again.
Tomlin and his lackeys couldn’t even develop a Polaroid let alone a young player. What a joke!
I thought Caleb should have had more playing time early, but Gainwell has exceeded expectations. You can't take Warren or Gainwell off the field at this point. Wilson must be doing something behind the scenes and seems to be in the doghouse. I'm not buying the story he doesn't know the offense

T

Did you see MVS this past Sunday on the crossing route and the go ball with 12 men on the field? He is still fast. Deceptively fast. Rodgers overthrew that go ball but MVS had his guy beat.

I saw the highlight and what I really liked about the play (other than it being a TD) was the fact MVS looked where Metcalf was crossing and adjusted his route to avoid getting too close and hitting Metcalf's defender since that would have been OPI.

Has anyone noticed Thielen's run game blocking? I never really paid attention to him with other teams but I like what he has been doing in the run game. It explains why he has been out in the big packages. He has been blocking his assignment and quickly getting open to a route or looking to block someone. He isn't quite Hines but he had shown above competent blocking. He hasn't been quite involved in the passing game yet in receptions, but his game within the game is very selfless.

Sure they do, but not all of them or even most of them. Again, he was a bit raw as he never had to pass protect and more importantly, we have two very good guys ahead of him. Not every rookie will do much their first year. Particularly past the first round. It is way too early to write his story either way and that is no indictment on the team either.
Strictly your opinion! Again, the lack of rookies playing and getting opportunities is a direct indictment of their lack of player development.
It’s just what this organization has become.
Look around the league and rookies are contributing from all draft positions. Not here!

I think it goes back to a simple lack of player development. Hence Tomlin bringing in old veteran free agents.
Gainwell has been a pleasant surprise but imagine if Caleb Johnson was allowed to progress and work himself into the rotation,
The kid just got put in the back burner. Better hope Gainwell and Warren stay healthy.

Pickett, Najee, Harmon, Fautanu, Jones, Frazier, Beanie, McCormick, Porter, Black and others. All have been playing since drafted or within a few games. I dispute your entire premise. Not all have stuck but to say he doesn’t play rookies is totally disingenuous.

Edit: Add in Payton Wilson who got more and more time last year as well. If a rookie isn't playing, I bet there is a pretty good reason why not. Bruener is being used as a special team's ace. This class alone we will have had three rookies start games by the end of this week. Black, Harmon and now Captain Jack likely.

For the most part these players were number one picks. Frazier and Porter no two picks. Porter was actually pick 32.
Beanie played sparingly and isn’t even on our team in year two.
McCormick, Wilson and Black the only three not high draft picks to see starting time. Not good percentages with only three guys beyond the second round to start. And Black only in there because Harmon is out.
Face it, Tomlin and his lackeys have failed miserably developing guys like Roman Wilson and Caleb Johnson two third round picks who came with lots of success in college.

Beanie was a starter for most of his rookie season. Most players beyond the second round aren't starters league wide. For all the legitimate complaints to have this is a false narrative. Tomlin has done pretty well developing some later round guys into contributors, particularly in recent years. Considering the failure rate league wide of even first round players I am not going to be overly upset that you may have missed on few third-round guys. In fact, I would call our later round and most mid round draftees' success the last handful of years. Your statement was that he doesn't play rookies, and I proved that just isn't the case at all so you are doing mental gymnastics now to try and skew the conversation.

I said it’s sad that two third round picks can’t see the field and your antenna went up alerting you to defend idiot Tomlin.
I never said Tomlin never plays rookies.
You’re one of the resident Tomlin nut huggers around here who refuse to admit this guy cannot develop young players. Why do you think he brings in so many aging veterans?
I don’t give a **** where a player is drafted, first round or seventh round, they should be given the opportunity to be developed to their fullest potential.
Like I’ve said before, Tomlin and his lackeys couldn’t develop a Polaroid.

I am not "defending Tomlin" I am calling out your bullshit. This is your quote above, and I directly refuted this. You then started waffling on the criteria. Period. As I said there are many valid criticisms you can make of Tomlin, but this one is total bullshit over the last few years. He has played rookies regularly and they have made an impact. He has also worked with guys Like Cook, and they are now making an impact. Pierre is another guy that has developed under Tomlin. So please spare me the bullshit narratives.

Definitely Shane. I was watching him as well. Doing all the little things very well. Hopefully this rewards him into more targets. I’ve always liked Thielen, between him and Tyler Lockett, they’ve been 2 WR’s that have had very good careers as they wind down their playing days.

You’re full of ****! You’re a right fighter!
I started my original post with it’s a shame that two third round picks can’t see the field. That Tomlin and his lackeys don’t do a good job developing young players. That’s why Tomlin brings in aging vets past their prime years. He does not develop young players well.
You’re actually going to go on record saying this idiot Tomlin develops rookies well?
Sure he started Frazier at center but who else was there? Look what he did with Broderick Jones. Played him out of position for two years in leu of the infamous Dan Moore. Jones may never develop here.
Played Kevin Dotson out of position who now is at his normal position in the Rams offense and playing very well.
McCormick is playing RG and doing ok but nothing outstanding.
Tomlin has the talent drafted on the OL but has a complete zero in Pat Meyer retarding their development.
You are what you are! A Tomlin nuthugger.
Some of you on this board are more Tomlin lovers first than Steeler lovers. You fit that bill always looking for a silver ******* lining to a totally incompetent era in Steeler football.
You probably take great joy in yet another non losing season. My aspirations are higher than that. Much higher!

But he did play Jones and didn't really have a choice of playing him on the right based on the talent we had and where they were capable of playing.ar two he was supposed to be on the left but Fautanu's injury and Moore's inability to play the left killed that, I would have had to make the same call. It was certainly not optimal, but it was what the situation as it stood called for.

Yes, I am on more on the side of supporting Tomlin than dissing him. I will not apologize for that one bit but I am not blind to some of his issues. I am aware he may be getting to the point that a change may be needed but for the love of God some of this is just bullshit. Then you start the name calling bullshit.

YES, I will go on the record, with absolute proof, whether you dismiss it or not, that for the last three years at least Tomlin has absolutely been playing rookies. I backed that up with incontrovertible facts, whether you like them or not. You can try and explain it away and hate on him all you want but he has played a bunch of rookies the last 3 or even 4 years. If all you can do is criticize but never acknowledge any changes to the positive, then you can **** off.

McCormick was a later round pick and he is starting, as well as holding his own. But sure, we don't play rookies and make them starters. Black even before injuries was getting significant playing time. In the past some rookies had a bigger hurdle but that has seemingly changed, and he has been giving them far more opportunities. Our last couple draft classes have contributed immediately aside from a few and have a damn good return on investment. There will always be some misses but I can't really complain about these last two.

Boom! There it is boys! A Tomlin fanboy! Enough said. You lost any little credibility you had with me.
After nineteen season he’s still supporting this fraud.

Is this not you saying he doesn't play rookies? If he is playing rookies how can you make the statement he doesn't develop them? Again, I showed plenty of rookies who have played and some who were later developed into contributors or starters. Tomlin has his faults but not developing players is in my opinion total bullshit created by fans who just want something more to ***** about.

I showed you plenty of evidence and yes, I will go on record and say Tomlin has developed players and has played rookies. Particularly in the last few years.

Please, I’m trying to be nice here. Stop responding, you just don’t get it.
You’re in such a state of mind to prove your point that you don’t take the time to comprehend what you read.
Nowhere did I say Tomlin doesn’t play rookies. You keep saying that because you have nothing.
Go away now.

Very good post man.
I’m aligned with everything you said, except the statement about Leal..
He got a few snaps last week and from what I saw was getting pushed around pretty good in fact, he got himself off the ground a couple times.
I think bringing moon back was the right move to make. I feel he’s a better option than Leal, especially against the run. His physicality seems to be head shoulders above 98.
The other concern at that position has been the play of Sawyer. He also did not look very good last week in his limited snaps, although he had more than Leal did I believe.
Sawyer needs to bring it. This is a great opportunity for him this week to show that he can be counted on by his teammates and coaching staff.
The Leal line was mostly in jest. Airplane reference and all. Sawyer is a rookie and was a DE in college. He is going to take some time and some body morphing this offseason to be a bit more effective. I think his ceiling is a steady but not overwhelming steak and eggs guy who can produce in relief and spot start occasionally as needed. Leal is only back because he knows the defense versus a guy off the street who doesn't.
