This is on ownership and ultimately the fans who accept it

Blocked punt and healthy D is why we won in Buf...
Only issue i have with rooneys is sticking with Tomlin. Tomlin is simply not an Xs and Os coach and makes questionable personnel and coordinator choices among other things. About all he does well is speak to the media.
This is my point with the Rooney's - if you know you have a coach that makes questionable decisions on personnel as well as gameday decisions - pass in the flat to Najee on a 4th and 10 because "We had fired all our bullets at that juncture" - the only conclusion I can come up with is that mediocrity is the new standard and they consider 8 - 8 is good enough.

So, you're saying they should have cut/traded one of their best rookies from last year because they were disappointed in his level of preparation this year? This may have gotten them a low round pick in return. A pick that couldn't help them this year.
Then you factor in that that decision would have left you with Coward or some other less capable player starting at LG. If you think the line play is crappy now ... whoeeee.
Point being, unfortunate as it is that Dotson was in the dog house for whatever reason, he was/is one of the people you'd turn to if you want to field the best people out there. At least on this year's squad.
Also, I disagree, one off season is not a "pattern" to me. If he hasn't learned his lesson from the *** whoopins he's taking this year and does anything similar next year, then you explore your options.
Not cut him, but maybe give him a bit of a break from routine to get him to re-focus. Sometimes all it takes is a bit of change up, a wrench in the usual, a push out of the comfort zone to get players to re focus.

I don’t know how the coaches evaluate their players in the offseason, maybe this was something of a red flag upon being drafted, signed. I don’t know.

But I’m sure like most places of employment they look into a player’s background so to speak

This is the single dumbest post ever created on this forum, and that’s saying a lot.

Not even close. Half of Coach's posts and that ******** troll who called them "black & yellow".

ive been a critic of Rooney’s front office but only in that they are too conservative. We needed a good offense coordinator and we got another journeyman in Canada. But nows not the time for this we got games to win! I wasn’t for drafting Harris but now that they have him use him… and just running him out of backfield is stupid. he could easily be a superstar put him in the slot about half his targets get him the ball 10-15 yards down field and he will destroy! dbs can’t defend him We need to Quit stinking!

As I look back over the years I'm really feeling like Mike Tomlin is the problem. How can a man like Dick LeBeau start sucking at calling defenses all of a sudden? Bruce Arians couldn't call an offense to save his life? We've even heard that MT took over calling the defense last year in a game because of his dissatisfaction with Keith Butler. I posted this in another thread but this isn't a Matt Canada offense and this isn't how he calls games. I've been a fan of his since 2016 and being an OC over the years at various levels I can appreciate his work. This **** that is happening on Sunday's is either MT holding Canada back, or Big Ben not wanting too much change. Maybe it's a bit of both.

I admit that don't know much about Canada, other than a few articles I read and some videos about his offense style, and I was really impressed with his work and excited that he was joining the Steelers. However, I have not been impressed with the Steelers offense so far, so your comments make a lot of sense to me.

Maybe it is our OL dictating what we can do(or not do) with their level of play?

That's a yuge part of it.
Regardless, I'm going to dig out my parachute pants and Members Only jacket because we're back to the 80's.

I tell you Ron even I was smoking the crack thinking this team could be competitive after week 1. They don't have one quality offensive lineman of any experience in front of a qb that is essentially done. Their coaching staff has never been able to elevate people. How was this going to work in anyone's mind.

I watched none of the game. I went riding and checked the score a few times. Once I figured out it was the same old ****. I never checked again. I can not remember the last time I did not watch a Steeler game. This has been one of the best Sundays I have had. They will always be my team, but I ain't wasting one hour of my Sunday watching that bullshit..They will be seen via sports highlight shows for the near future.
Hey is this a top 5 stupid post too? Checking with the staff here so I know what is stupid and what isn't. Since they say pretty much the same thing wasn't sure. Maybe we need to have a SN staff approved stamp to know.

We been falling for it every year for ten years.

I don't know who ultimately makes the decisions on draft day, but I'm throwing this out there. Clear proof that this organization does not prioritize the offensive line.

2021: 3rd round Kendrick Green 4th round Dan Moore
2020: 4th round Kevin Dotson
2019: 7th round Derwin Gray
2018: 3rd round Chukwuma Okorafor
2017: Nobody
2016: 4th round Jerald Hawkins
2015: Nobody
2014: 5th round Wesley Johnson
2013: Nobody

That certainly paints a very grim picture. I wonder who all they brought in via free agency over the years? Perhaps that is how they want to handle the offensive line rather than through the draft? I dunno, but if that is the case they are failing miserably. This line sucks!

Its been going on longer than that. When was the unleash hell year? From the get go I have always thought of Tomlin as a great motivator and speaker, but never a guy who stands on the sideline the first half, see's what the other team is doing, and makes adjustments in the second half. And the motivational speaker part only takes you so far and then the players tune that crap out.

I think this year, we finally be able to put the never a losing season to rest too. I think this team could realistically be 1-5 headed into the bye week if Watt doesn't come back and the play we seen yesterday continues.

First round Pouncey retired unexpectedly and first round Decastro had injury that made him a liability. I think they would have kept Feiler if they knew the extent of DeCastros injury.

Rooneys spend every dime they are allowed on players, so they are trying to win. Every ownership makes poor judgements, and letting Ben try another year might end up one,
but the Rooneys tend to be loyal and Ben wanted to play, so they figured they owed him the opportunity.

You are correct. It was Dec 1st, 2009.

OK, to be fair, way back in 2010, Pouncey was taken in the first round. Good call. They also took Chris Scott in the 5th, who never panned out.
In 2011, they took Marcus Gilbert in the 2nd, who did have a couple decent seasons, and Keith Williams in the 6th, who I don't even remember.
In 2012, they took DeCastro in the 1st (good call), Mike Adams in the 2nd (not), and Kelvin Beachum in the 7th. Never very good, but did play a lot.
I appreciate the effort of trying to draft o-line those years. That was 10-12 drafts ago.

This is the problem. Roethlisberger has been able to cover team deficiencies in the past. He can no longer do that. He can’t evade a pass rush like he once did. He can’t extend a play like he once did. When a receiver drops a ball he can’t just power it between defenders like he once did. When the defense falters he can’t just will the offense into an 80 yard scoring drive. So you put him on a team with two rookies starting at the two most important offensive line positions and a guy at RT that shouldn’t be on the team, a guard that wasn’t even offered a contract with his last team and a guard that didn’t take his first offseason serious and you get a nearly 40 year old QB killed. Then you topple that with the Steelers annual worst injury bug in the league having neither starting edge rushers on the field. And two starting defensive linemen out. And a secondary missing their only cover corner.

Unless we get healthy and healthy soon we are ******. We need Haden, Tuitt, Watt, Highsmith back now! We need Banner to get back and put Chuks on the bench! We need Dotson to pull his head out his ***! We need Claypool to catch the GD ball! We need put this together and gel so we can be a 4-4 team with 9 games left to try to finish strong and in the playoffs. The season is far from over but there’s just so much needed to become that playoff caliber team I’m not sure we can do it.

After that response I don't know how you just don't immediately fire him and the OC. A phonecall telling him to come tomorrow to the office to pack his **** and leave the premises for good

In regards to Claypool, yeah, he drops some easy ones, but on many of the downfield throws he is having to contort his body in order to compensate for poorly thrown passes. I'm surprised he catches some of the ones he does.

That's my biggest gripe with Art 2 as well.

His apparent unwavering commitment to Tomlin is hard to justify given the recent late season collapses and horrific playoff performance over the past decade.

It does somewhat imply an acceptance towards a level of performance that is not up to the standards of the franchise, but Art 2 isn't his dad.

I honestly feel those are just as much his fault. One of the most underrated qualities of a receiver is adjusting to a ball in the air. Claypool tracks the ball extremely late. So last second he’s trying to make a huge adjustment. Guys like Randy Moss, Larry Fitzgerald, and even Antonio Brown adjust their route to the ball while it’s in the air. Claypool is pretty green at the position and to football so I believe it’s something he can get better at. But what kills me is when it’s a perfectly placed ball and it hits the ground. That needs to stop now.

Our issue was that when our defense was so bad we drafted defense only or added "weapons" to the offense. We should have sprinkled in some O-lineman in the mix. As far as the QB is concerned, not sure how to fix that, we tried with Rudolph and that didn't work. As soon as Ben's elbow got hurt, we should have known he was done as the QB we came to know. This version of a QB is not a starting NFL caliber QB.

Whatever. But I doubt Dan Rooney would have put up with what you saw today - or the end of last year - without some house cleaning at the highest levels.

What we saw today and the end last year was as hit show of injuries. Not sure if you can blame anyone for that. Yes the offense had and has issues but they were addressed and the despite the slow start the jury should still be out. Both last year and this year if we have our full stable of defenders we likely win more games. We could easily be 3-0 with everyone healthy. I am not sure what the hell is going on with all the injuries. Is there a problem with the practice fields? I m not really sure what more you think Dan or the Chief would have done differently at this point.
