This team is travesty

I wonder if the Steelers will still be playing football in 20221.
Tomlin's great great great great (a lot more greats) grandchild will be making sure the standard is the standard ... no piece of grass will be missed ... iron will sharpen iron!

Ben was never mobile. He just had weirdly uncanny pocket awareness. He was never going to outrun anyone though.

Ben was mobile early on ... but to be fair mobile had an entirely different definition then. In the current sense he was never mobile. He was able to use his strength and, as you note, a great sense of when to step up in or out of the pocket to extend plays which was special. That time has come and gone but I will never forget how special he was. Even if he is done. he has 2 more SBs than the Bengals or Browns. Had a LOT of great days and evenings watching Ben play. Some teams never get that.

Ben's playing poorly now. I don't think anyone would realistically argue that. There may be some debate about WHY, but he isn't what he was.
But, he is inarguably the best QB the Steelers have ever had. (Yes, I hear all you fellas yelling "blasphemy" about Bradshaw.) Terry was perhaps one of the greatest "Big Game' QBs to ever step on the field, but he was no Ben Roethlisberger.
If not for the cheats, he likely would have as many or more rings than Terry. And he's had less of an offensive line and running game (by design) than Bradshaw had. In fact by the time the Steelers had a weak line and running game, Bradshaw was also in his latter years and he was getting killed on a regular basis. Ben's had to run for his life for the bulk of his career and STILL put up numbers in the top 10 all time in almost every QB category.

We were given a gift with Ben Roethlisberger. It's aged and gotten a bit tarnished, but I still appreciate the hell out of the gift.

I'll still be selling him Peyote through my Spirit World window. Maybe I should start selling current Coach Tomlin some.............

Salute the nation

THIS IS NOT CANADA’S OFFENSE!
For all you saying, “If Rudolph/Haskins/Rodgers/Mahommes comes in, they still have to run Canada’s offense”, please remember ALL the statements about “gonna do what Ben wants” and “gonna tailor this to what Ben’s comfortable with”.
Ben is slowing the transition and evolution. Maybe Canada is a disaster as an OC, but we can’t judge him by this.
I’ve read here and everywhere else about Ben audible-ing our of EVERY other OCs calls and that’s why he’s Ben and that’s why we’ve been successful in spite of all the garbage OCs and coaching.
But all of sudden he’s running EVERY call from Canada and NEVER changing the play?!
GTFO!!!!
Can’t have it both ways.

If this is not Canada's offence, then why are the Steelers paying him to be the Offensive Co-ordinator????? And if Canada has been making those statements you refer to, that still makes it his offence, because presumably as the Offensive co-ordinator, he is the one who makes the decision to "do what Ben wants" and "tailor this to what Ben's comfortable with".

Sorry, let me rephrase with specificity.
This is the part(s) of Canada’s offense Ben says he is comfortable with. It’s not the FULL Canada.
Also, I was taking a shot at those who thought ALL of our previous OCs were trash and Ben made them ALL look like geniuses because he bailed them out by changing the garbage plays they called. But now, all of a sudden, he’s run EVERY play called in from Canada.

i don't recall anybody saying that Ben was saving offenses by constantly audibling What i do remember is many people accurately pointing out that over the past few years the offense seemed best while in hurry up when Ben was calling his own plays. To be fair, that is true again this year.

This is Canada's offense. I get it that the OL is struggling but there are things you can do to help that. Romo pointed it out, how they could use the TE and Rb to chip before they go into routes. They actually did it and Ben had time and made a play. Then next play they didn't chip and Ben got hit. Romo seemed almost amused that they only did it once.

If Ben is this egomaniac that is holding the team hostage then why would they bring him back? Why would they fire Fichtner if they were just going to do what Ben wants?

I don’t think it’s about what Ben wants to do, but rather what he can do.

And we know Ben won't bench himself. Nor would any other player at any position. It is up to the HC to make changes for better or worse that falls on him solely.

Just a disaster. What else do you call it?
"The Standard"

I know that you understand what leadership is, and what it isn't Sarge. Tomlin hasn't changed one damn thing from a philosophical perspective or culturally, and he hasn't instilled a sense of identity and certainly hasn't addressed failures and held people accountable.

Ben will start next week
The offense will remain unchanged
the locker room will remain defeated and dejected
And Tomlin will have his stupid ******* sunglasses on so that we can't see the panic in his eyes.

Loss after loss after loss...."It's the standard and we have to do better" Tired of this broken *** message.

"We have to go back to the lab."

Looks like Tomlin is borrowing the Wuhan lab based on what I am seeing.

An asinine statement. You related to Ben, or something?
Meh, my opinion and I'll stick with it, although Mahomes would be moving around better than Ben, the line would still be the worst in the league. As far as calling the statement asinine, I put little credence in statements made by people I don't know, if it was meant to insult, it fell flat.

Hard to know where to start. Just a mess from top to bottom. Offense is inept, defense is average at best, special teams is special. I don't know how anyone looks at this and thinks this team has any chance at success any time in the near future.

Bringing Ben back was obviously a mistake. In this offense with this coaching staff, I can't imagine what they thought would happen. Ben has been fantastic over his career. No denying that. Is he our best option? I don't know. If he is, the Steelers aren't going to win much. And for those calling for Rudolph, you realize he is going to have to run the same stupid, putrid, pathetic offense, right? I honestly don't think Patrick Mahomes could make a difference with the same play calls.

The defensive aggression that beat Buffalo vanished into thin air after week one. They are playing a lot of zone, soft and timid. It's a head scratcher.

****. I have so many thoughts running through my head, I can't even relay them all. Just a disaster. What else do you call it?
I believe they blitzed one or two times in the Buffalo game. They dropped everyone back into coverage. We were getting constant pressure without blitzing.

When Tomlin doesn’t live up to the standard OBVIOUSLY he does the noble thing and steps aside right?

The standard only being above .500 and no playoff win

My guess is he will blink, start painting the barn whatever color paint he has, hope to splash some on here and there and cash another year of paychecks upholding his pedigree and “the standard”

This absolutely is Canada's offense and Tomlin has let him do some dumb **** by gutting the no-huddle playbook. If this were still Ben's O, we would have run the no-huddle a hell of a lot more the last few games, and Ben, literally (like he did last year and in years past), would have drawn plays up in the dirt on the field. This past week, the O seemed to be moving a little better. Ben definitely made the nice TD throw but missed a wide-open JuJu for 2 more. The O-line allowed Ben to get crushed and we lost a fumble. Ben could have pulled that down and just taken the 10-yard sack since there was nowhere for him to run but he didn't. We had our drops as well. And, our strength, the D, looked absolutely horrible. I still have no idea how we did what we did to the Bills unless Aluala is that important to the D. I have been a fan of his (much more than Tuitt's as I think he is very much overrated) and this shows how good he was before he got injured this year. He and Heyward stuffed the middle and allowed our OLB's to get after the QB. They could do it with 4 men. Now, we can't.

As I said in other posts, Ben needs to practice full every day through the bye week so he can, hopefully, and finally, get in sync with his WR's. Better accuracy. Fewer drops. And much fewer going the wrong direction.

Yes, Wednesday’s off are a privilege given to veterans on a team that is in cruise control mode...we can’t even get the car outta the garage...time to start working a full work week to maybe get the car tuned up a bit so we can go for a ride!

Ben did this before his elbow surgery when he wasn't in sync with his receivers. He started to practice all week and it showed during the games. I know he is a few years older but they are doing the same pattern with him in the preseason and he and the receivers have never gotten on the same page. Ben is a little off. The receivers are running the wrong way (reading the play/defense wrong), etc. The extra practice for a few weeks should do wonders.
