I hate to say this, but the "cleaning house" sentiment for me really is on the defensive side of the ball. I think Dick Lebeau should hang it up, allow Butler to take over and implement whatever scheme he sees fit. Same goes for the old vets that are hanging on by a string, fueled by emotion and nostalgia - da Beard, Deebo, Ike and Troy. Their era is over, it's time to move on and completely revamp this Defense. And I say that with nothing but love and respect for everything LeBeau and those players have done over the years. But we can't keep running of fumes...

Here's the problem -- da Beard, Deebo, Ike and Troy...those are still our best players on defense, other than Heyward. And that says a lot...about both Tomlin and Colbert.

but two years off mediocre to add to this year of mediocre, and I have no need to wait until seasons end.

Here's the problem -- da Beard, Deebo, Ike and Troy...those are still our best players on defense, other than Heyward. And that says a lot...about both Tomlin and Colbert.

This statement speaks volumes. What have these two been doing the last 6 or 7 years???? Cowher had a way better sense of talent evaluation than most. Tomlin doesn't seem to have near as much or not as much say in the process. I doubt the latter as who would want to stay under those circumstances. Several of our starters, both Offense & Defense, would not make a roster on another team, no matter ther capacity. When one of the worse graded players at his position, can start in place of your injured starter, out play him, there is something drastically wrong. It's not like this is a new cine rio or sudden happening, it's been this way for years. Patience, learning curve time, have ALL been exceeded, white or black (for the racists). I'm not the one to make the decision, but it does need to be made. If Mike Tomlin can't back up his words of, wee'll have to correct this / that, then he needs to go. Discipline is easy to acquire, in a team atmosphere, it takes consistency, patience, and PUNISHMENT. How does Cortez Allen commit a penalty, come to side line, spends a few short words with Tomlin, get about 4steps away and his body language goes to comfortable, then just a moment later is sitting with his buds and laughing joking? That is an example of "coach ain't going to do anything to me & I know it". Piss poor team discipline, respect, team mate malfunction!!!! We need that back and if replacing the coach / staff / players / what ever is required, needs to be done and NOW.

Tomlin has brought in his type of player and tried to fit them into a scheme that is not the one he learned/grew comfortable with as an assistant/DC. It has not worked well. I don't think anyone here would've been too pissed off if he had just drafted 4-3 players and ran a 4-3 scheme as long as the unit was good and productive. This mish mash of players and scheme is .... not good.

This is what I think (or hope) happens if Tomlin cannot turn this team around and at the VERY least get us into the playoffs. Colbert fired, Tomlin Fired, DL allowed to resign, Haley fired, Munchak hopefully stays on for the new coach and maybe adds assistant head coach to his title. Part ways with Troy, Ike, and Keisel for the last time. Everyone is going to hate this but draft an LT and move Beachum to LG or RT to hopefully fix the line once and for all. Yes, I know we need a CB but as of right now I am not sure any will deserve the high pick we likely will have. Get a CB or two in round 2/3. Let Worilds leave via free agency and have the new DC decide if we will run a 34 or 43.

All I can do on this one is shrug (who knows). What I see is that the "old timers" that comprised the core of that last great 3-4 Steelers defense have gradually aged and either retired or been forced out. They were replaced by guys who fit a 4-3 scheme better. If you draft 4-3 guys, then you should just get it over with and implement a 4-3. Interesting enough, I think that starting last year they began gradually adding more 4-3 type looks, so maybe it's in the works. What I do know is that whether your going to run a 3-4 or a 4-3, you've got to get the young guys in there sometime.

Don't think you need to clean house, when the rest of the NFL doesn't look that strong. Several of the pundits were actually projecting a NE vs NO
Super Bowl.

Steelers have 1 glaring problem over all the rest. They currently have zero starting CB's. Gay has become a decent #3 CB, but when your counting on him to be a #1,
you have a big problem. The NFL is a passing league and CB is now a premium position, and the Steelers have not invested high draft picks in this key position.

In my opinion, they should have signed Lewis and used either the 2013 or 2014 #1 pick on a CB. this would be a much different defense if those 2 moves had
taken place. Can't blame Ike, he has just gotten old for CB and if we had younger CB's he might have been a decent option to move to free safety like Woodson.

Ben would be silly to move elsewhere. He has been set-up nicely to finish his career here. Young back, receiver's and O-line. Just need a little more competition on the O-line and
it can be shored up. It isn't the disaster it was a few years ago.

there are just no play makers on D aside from heyward on the dl it is just average, without shazier and jones there is a great problem covering a te with Spence, Worlids not getting sacks if he wants to return his price is falling each game he gets no sack or a FF.
Secondary average Mitchell a washed up Troy eho is playing very undisciplined overrated Cortez who is not covering well, gay a tough vet but lacks top end speed and size, luckily neither the jags or browns have WR's like Jackson or Steve Smith Sr who made cortez and gay look like ***.

The only coach I could imagine bringing in would be Bob Stoops from Oklahoma.
But I can't begin to imagine the media uproar that would ensue.

If you think Tomlin has problems with in game adjustments, wait until you see Big game Bob. We OU fans know all too well his faltering in big games (save the Sugar Bowl last year)

I have mentioned previously about our issue on O with not coming out and doing what we do best until the other team stops us. We have seen it work this year but don't use Ben in the shot gun with the no huddle as our base offense. It is beyond idiotic. However, I keep thinking about Ben's interview prior the debacle with Tampa. He was asked about the offense coming out and looking to put up major points. He said ya but we don't want to go over board. We don't want to put too much pressure or whatever on ourselves. That is total bullshit. We need to come out with the intent to put up 100 points, if we can - to basically score a TD every time the O touches the ball. Any other mindset just doesn't cut it. If our starting QB doesn't have that mindset then neither will the rest of the O. I hope he was just restating something the coaches said (which is bad enough) and that truly isn't how he believes.

It's almost like in college, where JoePa didn't want to run up the score on teams even though all of the Florida teams did that as much as they could. This is the NFL. Teams can make dramatic comebacks and have done that against us in the past and even this year. We need to go full steam for 60 minutes. If that means we pound a team 100-0, then so be it.
