TJ Watt Wants Brother JJ Watt to Land in Pittsburgh after Release from Houston

if Ben comes back, I see JJ signing a one year cap friendly deal with the Steelers to play with his brothers. After the year, he can be a free agent and chase a ring if the Ben retires and/or the Steelers are no longer contenders.

His brother Derek needs to leave though. That guy was a waste of money.

Well ... Randy Sphincter didn't know how to use him, or when to use him. Hopefully Canada can utilize him properly.

he comes here is brother was not a waste Fitcher made 0 effort to use him never used him in the I set, he just scrapped that, we rarely ran out of the pistol, he elected Vance to be the lead blocker when we did.
you get Harris or Williams (UNC) and have watt as a lead blocker you will see he can block and incorporate some screens to him.
he has made a boatload of money so I dont think money is the issue for JJ stability and a chance to win, GB needs help on both sides at De and at MLB, KC juyst has to many holes on D.

I will wait until I hear he is visiting Pittsburgh before I believe the hype. But would love him in the burgh but of course.

Virtual visit is good enough. Send the contract via email and scan the signed copy back!!!

From his own mouth, JJ does NOT want a rebuild situation.
So it will be interesting to see what happens with Ben and the rest of our off-season.
Does JJ want to play with his brothers more, or does he want a ring more?

It’s not from JJ’s own mouth, it’s from CLE beat writer Grossi. Only a CLE stooge would opine a negative with no verified source. Grossi and MK Abbot are bonafide CLE stooges.

Watt will probably have his pick of teams. It just depends on what he's looking for.

A chance to play with his brothers but not compete for a championship.

A chance to compete for a championship but not get a big contract.

A nice contract but no chance to compete for a championship.

He obviously isn't what he was a few years ago, but he's still a disruptive defender and would be a great signing.

With Heyward and Tuitt already on the roster, I'm not sure how much playing time he would be willing to share, though.

You really do not give them a shot in 2021?

I'm as skeptical as anyone, especially pertaining to Tomlin, but if they can improve the OL play at all, they'll win 10+ games and be in contention.

The Rooneys/Steelers will never say the word "rebuild".
But whether Ben is here or not, our cap situation and inability to resign some FAs we're going to lose, and our current O-Line and coaching situation isn't painting a beautiful portrait for enticing FAs to think of Pittsburgh as an ideal landing spot for winning a SB.
Playing with his brothers would have to far outweigh winning a ring for JJ.

So a team that went 12-4 with a fantastic heritage and fan base and a Hall of Fame QB, plenty of key pieces, especially on defense, perhaps not all of the pieces.... so this team wouldn’t entice a free agent? Hmmmm.... I’m not sure that is accurate assessment. Compared to 90% of the league, the Steelers are successful every year. We just expect a SB visit more often as fans.

I agree with everything you're saying 6Lombardies but also realize some fans are starting to expect late season collapses as the normal.

Salute the nation

Not to make excuses but there has been some seriously bad injury luck involved on some of these.

No. This team will win enough games to make the playoffs then have a first-round exit like always. Ben isn't going to be able to sustain a high level of play for a full season and long playoff run. They aren't going to go from maybe the worst rushing team in the league to one that can help carry either Ben or Mason in November and December. Unless Highsmith takes a big step forward, the defense isn't going to be better without a consistent pass rushing threat opposite of Watt.

Bud only accounted for 8 of the teams 56 sacks. Not to downplay it, but It’s not unbelievable to think thag Highsmith can’t do that, if not more. I can see him having the Woodley-type second year, and produce 11 1/2 sacks. The guy is gonna be a solid player, I feel.

Bud had those 8 sacks in 11 games, which is (as you pointed out) an 11.5 or 12 sack average over a full season. Highsmith had 1 sack in 6 starts. What in the world gives you the belief that he can turn that into double-digit production? His mastery of the run-wide-around-the-tackle-and-take-myself-completely-out-of-the-play move?

I think are are downplaying it. As topseed said, that projects to 11-12 for the season, which places second on the team. Regardless, he put up 14% of the team's sacks and didn't play in 5 games. Highsmith flashed a ton of potential and has the look of a good pass rusher moving forward. I don't know if he's ready to make a leap that big, but I hope he does.

Florio being an idiot..as usual.

IF it's true JJ wants a ring more than he wants to play with his brothers, sorry, but Pittsburgh is pretty far down the line in attractiveness.
The same team that started 11-0, only to lose 4 of their last 5 and get bounced at home to Cleveland....convincingly?
Same team that is cash strapped and WAY over the cap?
Same team that will be losing key piece FAs this off-season and is a complete mess on offense?

I love the Steelers. Always have, always will.
But I'm not gonna pretend we're currently SB contenders next season.
Not with this coaching staff, the known returning players under contract, and our cap situation.
