Tomlin admits he lives in his fears

has to be Justin. unless embalming fluid counts as alcohol

Burgundy could answer that.

Except that Justin wouldn’t be walking into a bar.

Bam and Tim would have to prop him up. Would make for a great movie. A Weekend At Justin’s.

"We dont live in our fears" only applies when he decides to take an illogical gamble...

We live in our fears on offense until we are desperate, and on D we crap our pants with super basic coverages every 3rd and long
That second line you wrote just summed up the last several years. Also, one could add, "our offensive line too often craps itself in super critical situations with a huge whiff in pass protection".

Tomlin should just resign for the good of the organization but he won’t.
Too proud. He feels there is unfinished business which is winning a Super Bowl. He would look upon himself as a failure or a quitter.

That soft zone is so chicken ****. They may as well start blitzing again if they're going to keep running that trash.
Teams are putting layers of protection to slow down Watt. And the Steelers do nothing to counter anything being done to them. And if they don't counter Watt, the ball is gone in 2 seconds flat.

Just like Moore in the last game. There's never a plan B. Hell,it looks like they don't plan at all.

It gets tiring watching other teams look like a professional well oiled machine on both sides of the ball, and the Steelers look like they don't even practice.
can you imagine if they used this technique called a "stunt" to leave the OL guessing as to where TJ will attack on any given play? Good Lord!!

To me the Steelers are victims of their own success. the whole 3 coach deal since 1623 or whatever is part of it.
but the other part is having the identity of defense 1st. it worked from the 70s until 10 year ago. the NFL has changed. wether it FF, lawsuits for head injury, whatever, it is all about offense now.

they have to change with the times and so far have not.

You still have to find the right balance.

The Bengals loaded up on offense at the expense of their defense and missed the playoffs, despite having the top passer and receiver in the league.

Pretty much all the best teams right now play at least decent defense.

I don't think the Steelers issue is that they don't emphasize offense enough. It's just that they don't know what they're doing on that side of the ball, with Tomlin being the one constant over the years.

The poor OL play and reluctance to throw over the middle got old a long time ago.

Tomlin flat out telling us he's afraid to throw the ball and will try to run even if it isn't working. Just absolutely insane. I don't even care if he wanted this to be a running team, but if that's what you want, construct a dominant running team.

They run 7 shots at training camp every year and they're in the shotgun throwing the ball 7 times. How is this establishing a mentality that you want to be physical and dominate on the ground? I honestly don't know if he truly knows how to build an identity because he's always relied on star talent to just show up and be better than the guy on the other side. When it doesn't work, the team fails.
If he truly wanted to be a run dominant team get a QB that can see over the LOS, put said QB under center, bring in a true FB, run some I formation, scrap the pistol, get a new OL coach with a better blocking scheme, use some damn play action for chunk plays and buy into the identity of what it means to be a running team.

This game plan against the Bengals was total incompetence by Tomlin and his OC.
You beat the hell out of this Bengal defense in Cincinnati maybe the worst in the league by passing the ball and you come out with this **** Saturday. Total incompetence. Their defense was so bad even the cheap *** Mike Brown fired their DC today.
Why wouldn’t you just come out Saturday and attack their defense the very same way as you did in Cincinnati?
No, Tomlin thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room and he’ll show them. Yeah you showed them!

Steelhurt, the real issue here is that you still care - that is obvious from your post.

Until Tomlin is gone, this **** will not change. I have made peace with that and simply don't care any more. Art Deuce does not give a deuce, so why should I?

But, if we lose by getting blown out like the previous four playoff games, it could irritate Art II to mandate some firings. Namely Terrell Austin and Pat Meyer.
I think that’s all we can expect from Rooney at this point since he won’t move on from Tomlin.

Truth. And firing Austin and Meyer and Arthur Smith will fix everything. Look at the wondrous playoff success after firing Dick Lebeau, and Keith Butler, and Todd Haley, and Randy Fichtner, and Matt Canada!!

Those clowns were the problem, dammit!! Remember the Chinese proverb, "A fish rots from its dorsal fin on down."

I think he wants Tomlin to break Noll’s record and that should happen next season with another trademark non losing season. He’s pretty close!

I wrote this about two years ago, that Mediocre Mike stays until he has more wins than Noll. I fear now that Mediocre Mike stays until he does something successful in the playoffs, which we know is NOT going to happen.

I agree with you. Nothing is changing until the stubborn Tomlin is gone.
Yeah I know, I wear my feelings on my shirtsleeve since I’ve loved the Steelers since I was a very young kid growing up in Pittsburgh.
I was a city kid and lived and breathed Steelers and even after moving away many years ago, nothings changed.
Living in Houston and my wife being a southern gal thinks I’m slightly goofy how I get over this team. She just doesn’t get and never will.
I absolutely hate how the culture has changed for this organization.

Yeah, it has to be nothing but ego at this point because if what the Tomlin guys chant like a mantra all the time " If you fire him he'll have a job the next day." is true(and I'm sure it is) Tomlin knows this and he would move on to where he would be loved(at least for a few years) and he could rob some other owner for even more money. He is determined to prove he can win it all by his own hands(deep down he knows 43 was Cowher's team) and we are going to pay the price.

Rooney will sit with his thumb firmly entrenched in his nether regions while this insanity continues year after year.

Smith knows what he's doing. The common denominator is someone meddling with the O.C.

Firstly, I'm happy the Pittsburgh media asked him a direct question with the facts of 4th most rushing attempts and 26th in yards to initiate Coach Tomlin's response.

Man, did Mike ever **** up.

What was known inside the team facility was merely speculated outside of it, until now. Now the media has the sound bite and can, with certainty, hold these lousy performances against him. Not just local media, all media. They can build a narrative and loudly pin it directly on his forehead.

If the Steelers go into Balitmore and get blown out, Mike will officially be on the hot seat. No, he won't be fired because it doesn't make business sense to pay Mike the remainder of his contract while he coaches somewhere else. That isn't good business, Art II knows this. However, Mike will not be extended after this contract is up. The smart play is to have his successor on staff the final year of the contract (OC hopefully) and simply allow Mike to gracefully step down. But does Art II have the balls to do what his father did with Todd Haley usurping Mike's authority and directly hire the OC/DC that could replace him?

That is the real question in my mind.
I'm not sure you have the Todd Haley situation right, maybe you do. I'm not sure.

Todd did not leave on good terms. Ben hated that mo fo with a passion on his way out. Todd got sued for trashing his rental house on he way out, he just let his dogs go wild and destroy the place. Well, Todd striped the place of hot tubs, appliances, etc.

Haley was a Dan Rooney hire, he went above shades and hired an OC directly.

Regardless, Ben and the team hated the guy. He was not a hit with the Browns either, did you see him on Hard Knocks?

But turnstile Dan has a shorter leg, so the guys drafted to replace him need to play other positions

My first thought was how do we as fans know who hired who?
Then I came across this, which would make it self evident that Rooney hired him.

But what an odd way of game planning he had.
Really?
Just score the amount you’ll need. Don’t be wasteful? Lol

The Pittsburgh Steelers hired Todd Haley as offensive coordinator on February 13, 2012. Haley was the first offensive coordinator to be hired from outside the organization in 13 years.

Haley's father was the Steelers' former personnel director, and Haley grew up in Upper St. Clair Township, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh. The Steelers announced
that Haley's contract would not be renewed on January 17, 2018.

Haley's game planning method was unique. He would ask Mike Tomlin how many points the team would need to win the game, and then devise his game plan based on Tomlin's response. Haley would adjust his plan as needed during the game.

"regardless", hmph, you are dismissing the fact that you totally missed my point. Whatever, dude. And I could care less if Ben or the ******* Browns didn't like him. The NFL is only a popularity contest when it comes time for the Pro bowl. Haley was arguably the best Offensive coordinator Tomlin has had, and it took Dan Rooney to hire him.

He was the best thing for Ben. Ben just didnt know it
Maybe, he sure as **** didn't coach this offense back to any Superbowls though. So there is that. Say what you want about BA, but he did indeed get there, with more than one team.

Joe

It amazes me the number of people calling into the sports shows still defending Tomlin, one fan called in and said maybe Tomlin lost on purpose to Cincy so they could play the Ravens, lol.
