Tomlin Bans Players From Jersey Swapping

NFL players swapping jerseys with one another after a game isn't uncommon, but it's not something that the Pittsburgh Steelers will be partaking in anymore.

Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin banned his players from postgame jersey swaps after wide receiver Antonio Brown traded with his friend Tommy Streeter of the Jacksonville Jaguars after the two teams played Sunday.

“Jersey switching has been banned by the Steelers,” Brown said on Wednesday, via Scott Brown of ESPN. “Coach doesn’t want us doing it anymore.”

Antonio Brown said he agrees with Tomlin's decision.

“We want a point of emphasis on winning games. We’re not here to trade apparel,” Brown said. “It’s the right way to do it.”

ESPN's Scott Brown says that running back Le'Veon Bell also swapped his jersey after the game.

"The edict Tomlin handed down Tuesday apparently stems from his wanting players to be more discreet if they exchange jerseys – or not to do it at all," Brown said. "In addition to Brown giving his jersey to Streeter -- the two played little league football growing up together in Miami -- Steelers running back Le'Veon Bell and Jaguars running back Denard Robinson exchanged jerseys after the game."

What a joke.

be more discreet, or don't do it. (Be sneaky if you're going to trade jerseys so I can look like the righteous Samuel L. Jackson ************ that the media thinks I need to be.)

What a joke.

Sorta like the "fans" on this site.

Now lets all get pissed off Tomlin wants his players to focus on winning and not all the extra stuff. No wonder no one's posting here anymore.

I love the Steelers. I just think Tomlin is weak. He's in way over his head and has no idea how to fix things other than befriending the players. That's lead to an erosion of his authority. Every week he talks about accountability and responsibility but the team lacks leadership. That's the major problem with the program right now.

I'm not saying he can't improve, but it certainly does seem as though he's had enough time to figure out the job description.

Trading Jerseys after the game has nothing to do with winning or losing, but more so the respect players have with each other throughout the league. This is something I've always thought was great to see from all sports, especially the female leagues. I am bit surprised that Tomlin would not make the call to stop these silly celebrations instead. Foolish penalties are what can cause us to lose our momentum, give advantage to our opponents and contribute to a loss. Tomlin should focus on coaching a winning team, not his image.

Maybe the Steelers are trying to reduce the costs of replacement jerseys. Those things are not cheap.

Yeah, that'll fix the dumb penalties and lack of red zone production.

I'd rather my Steelers be like Joey Porter and step on to the other team's bus and challenge people to get off and fight after the game.

Would be nice if he concentrated on something that happened before the final whislle is blown, coach cool shades is just lost.

A whole teams worth is what, $15k? That's cheap for NFL and I suppose players need to pay for ones they give away.

Anyway I don't get Tomlins rule.

He's unleashing his famous no jersey exchanges in October mantra, we're golden.

jerseys, weed? Don't do it, but if you are going to do it, be discrete. We have a standard around here to uphold.

I heard Hoyer **** his pants after he heard that. **** just got real..

Who cares if they trade jerseys? I have no issues if they do and I see no reason they can't or shouldn't. The biggest sport in the world, soccer (the other football), has no issues with trading jerseys. I see it as a sign of respect. You battle on the field for 60 minutes. Trading jerseys afterwards shows sportsmanship and is probably viewed by most as a good thing. The NFL needs as many good things going for it as it can right now. They should be promoting swapping jerseys rather than someone banning it.

I'm not in the NFL culture so I don't really understand how this helps them win. Can't they just exchange them in the locker room? Is that discreet enough?

In breaking news, Tomlin has apparently banned the usage of time outs as well. He is saving them up in hopes he can get a prize from the ticket stand in the game zone amusement park of a locker room he's F'ing running.

I fail to see how this has an effect either way. I also fail to see why I care, since I fail to see it having an effect either way. Maybe he just doesn't like it for whatever reason, his team, his rules.

Ab seems fine with it, so I could give a **** one way or the other.

Joe

I don't care for Tomlin BUT that is what I have expected of him since he arrived. Become winners, not after school game playing. You barley win against a winless team and you want to swap jerseys. This team has something missing and it becomes more clear it is direction and that is direction towards a championship not the bank.

Good move coach that'll motivate a man to work for you. Maybe you should have started chewing on players ***** years ago instead of trying to be their friend.

Perhaps he is worried the fans might take notice and start swapping jerseys as well...

Hell hath no fury like a head coach scorned.

It appears he was relaying a message from the front office. Apparently the Rooneys/Steelers have entered into an agreement to sell their game worn jerseys to an online sports memorabilia dealer.

My earlier post about saving money was a joke, but, if the behind the steel curtain speculation is correct, maybe money was the reason after all.
