Tomlin says Gilbert will start at RT.

You should be able to lose your job while injured if someone outperforms you in your place. Gilbert had no ability to handle anything the Rats did last game. I see no reason to revert to him now

Why dick with something that seemingly worked?

I am at a loss as to why the team would change what has worked very well for the past 6 quarters. Heath helped Adams, that is true, but Heath also was forced to help Gilbert a ton since Gilbert gave up 5 effing sacks in 25 quarters. Also, it does bear mentioning that Heath had 7 receptions, his most of the season, so apparently he was not locked onto Adams' right hip.

He was locked most of the time. Which is what I said. Also the TE (Miller or Spaeth) can block then go out into the pattern. Happens all the time. I don't care who they start because both need help.

Yeah, if Gilbert was playing well before he was injured this isn't an issue but the problem is he wasn't and Adams out performed Gilbert and that is the bottom line.

I watched the game again and didn't see anyone "locked to him most of the time". Most of the time Heath actually motioned away from his side before the snap. TE chipped once and he got TE/RB help in max protect. He actually had a couple of good pickups after his "help" whiffed on their man. He made a few mistakes, but he played a better game than I've seen out of Gilbert this year.
Maybe this will light a fire under Gilbert's ***. But right now, I think Dumerville is the happiest of all to hear this news.

As I said earlier, I'm waiting to see the film review articles done by some sites. There has been a few mentions that Adams DID NOT get help through out a majority of the game; one person on twitter stating that as far as they could see after a quick re-watching of the game that Adams had help on a total of 8 plays throughout the course of the game. It'll be interesting to see if that was indeed true.

Adams is a better mauler in the run game, and he seems competent as a pass protector at RT. We don't need Gilbert in there

I was only paying attention to pass protection and 8-9 seemed about right. On a few of those, the extra blocker was standing around looking for someone to engage. It'll be interesting to see an expert's breakdown.

Outside of the Baltimore game, Gilbert has been solid.

Yes Adams has performed well during 7or so quarters- but that is hardly enough to totally uproot a starter. Hell, I bet Gilbert comes back looking even better knowing that a capable Adams is waiting in the wings.

You don't need to double anyone on every play. The Colts only sent 3 people on several occasions. Some plays are quick hitters. Some play leave defensive players totally unblocked. So it isn't about counting the total number of double teams. Does anyone think Worilds is doubled 9 times a game? NOPE. Adams had a lot of help when it was needed. It isn't always needed because of the scheme and the play. The Steelers went almost exclusively to the left when Gilbert got hurt. There is a reason for that.

Again, I don't really care because both guys have issues. Put Adams out there against the rats and lets see how he does.

I think you have to go with Gilbert and see how he does. He hasn't played badly except for the Rats game so you don't pull is job just because he got hurt for one game in light of his playing pretty well this season outside of one game. If he blows up then bring in Adams.

I agree that both have issues and that neither should ever play on the left side. I just think Adams has been as good or better, against better competition this year. The offense is really hitting it's stride, why mess with the chemistry unless you have to?

I would add that Ben came in for a starter and he maddox never became the starter when healthy. On a second point who are we playing Sunday, Oh Yeah Baltimore.

For what it's worth, here is a nugget for you (the source is a certain birdcage liner that should not be named):

- according to PFF, Gilbert has allowed Big Ben to be hit just once in 318 snaps since the Baltimore game

All the usual disclaimers about PFF apply.

Gilbert has improved somewhat and deserves to start over Turnstile Adams.

Neither, however, should be starting RTs. We can do so much better.

Where is that person on this roster? Gotta run with the ponies you have. Maybe in the off season they can get another T (and they should) but, Gilbert isn't going anywhere so here's hoping Munch can bring out the best in him (or better than his best if that's what it takes).

How do you get kicked in the nuts whilst performing a headstand???

I didn't see Adams getting all the help that some here saw. He played lights out, but, you can't sit 30M on the bench for the rest of the season. So, like Vader said, he's on a two link leash...

Please don't jinx us...

"We" can do so much better??? Who do you recommend we trot out there, Mr. GM/Agent/Trainer/Coach man???

I don't know. But every year the league allows teams to add new players via a selection process called "the draft." They can also supplement their roster through a bizarre phenomenon known as "free agency." So perhaps I'm suggesting we go find a new one.

Elvis is licking his chops. Why in the hell we didn't draft or try to sign that guy I'll never know.

Well then, by all means, let's get the guy back in there against the team he stank against. After coming off an injury, he should be much better.

this game is a perfect time to use a unbalanced line play Adams in Speath's spot as 2nd te in twin te 2 wr sets.
Torrey Smith has been a Steeler killer and Cortez should not be on him start Gay on him for the hieght and speed Gay loses he can make up with his crafty vet in your face tight d, put Mccain on Smith Sr and Cortez on Jones Press, Troy should be a LB/S to shut Forsett and Mccullers should play atleast 20 of the D reps, to clogg the middle command a double team, so Shazier and Timmons can hit Forsett with clean lanes.
Might want to try 2-3-6
DT Heyward DT Mclendon
OLB Worlids LB Polamalu OLB Timmons
CB Gay CB Mccain LB/S Shazier FS Mitchell S/CB Blake
