Tomlin to Redskins Discussion Thread

Here’s a name that nobody is talking about to replace Tomlin but Munchak. Knows the Steeler organization. Knows most of the current players strengths and weaknesses. Former HC. Respect of players.

Is he an X and O coach?

If he sits there and stares during games I don't want him.

So Dan Snyder fires his 0-5 Coach and wants to bring in a 1-4 Coach? How freaking stupid can one man be?

Snyder is the second most stupid owner in the NFL after Mike Brown.

I wonder if Mike Tomczak would be willing to coach...

That's a big stadium to fill and Tomlin would immediately fire up that fan base. Nationally, nobody thinks any of these losses are on Tomlin. I'm telling you, if the steelers get to just 7-9, Tomlin will be getting buzz for coach of the year. He's already been totally absolved of the AB fiasco. In fact, now the media credits Tomlin with keeping AB in line. We know that's a joke but people nationally people believe it.

Steven A. Wants Tomlin to have Complete Control of Redskins

I cannot remember a HC ever receiving so much more credit than he truly deserves.
He helped create AB with his lack of discipline essentially allowing him to do as he pleased.
This guy has not one thing that you can say that he does that extremely well. Nothing!
To me as far as the media this is and always has been an agenda built around race. Oh he’s the successful black coach that other black coaches can aspire to be.
I’ve thought that for some time and believe the media is fully behind this liberal bs.
If he had been white, I wonder how forgiving the media would have been? I’m no fan of McCarthy but very, very similar records and he was vilified by fans, media and his QB. And it should never be about race but the ability of the coach to evaluate talent, coach up that talent, game plan, MAKE ADJUSTMENTS,challenge successfully at least 50% of the time, discipline his players, control his locker room, mandate respect as I’m the boss not your friend atmosphere, don’t overlook opponents, etc.Thats how I evaluate my HC, not by color of skin.
Just sayin’

My issue is that most of these commentators don't even know what they are talking about. I listened to a show last night where they were talking about how some coach had only won 2 or 3 playoff games in 9 years. Then they talked about how great Tomlin was and that he should be looking to move up by going to another team to turn them around. I'm like WTF? Do you even know what his playoff record is in the last 9 years? Seriously, these people go on perception not reality.

I have a pretty good list of things I judge HC’s on... and they don’t have to be great or even good at all of them as long as they delegate it away... like I don’t give a rats *** if a head coach knows x’s and o’s of plays for D or O or ST or hell all of em, as long as he has a solid coordinator covering that area... I don’t care if he isn’t the disciplinarian as long as someone is... I don’t care if he cannot develop players or scout them, as long as he hires people as position coaches who can cover that... the hc ties everything together... thats his job....

So if the team is undisciplined, then its his fault for not controlling that aspect or finding someone who can
If the team is strategy deficient then its his fault for not correcting that or finding someone who can
If the team isn’t developing guys thats ultimately on him, if communication is subpar thats on him...

He individually doesn’t need to be great at any one thing, or even good... except building a staff around him that eradicates any deficiencies he has...

I don’t think Tomlin has done that... i think he fell into the good old boys network train of thought... i think he wants who he like, not who is best for him

How in the hell did Tomlin turn this team around when he arrived. They were loaded even with a young franchise QB one season removed from a SB victory. We had great coordinators, great leaders, players. They suffered from SB hangover that next year so Tomlin had the table set for him. Turn another team around. Ya, go to Washington and tell us about it after three losing seasons after you get canned.

I mean there are two sides to this coin

Danny Snyder is a little man with a Napoleon complex and mostly hell to work for, however he likes the GM and the GM has history with Tomlin... the standard is ultra low there... Tomlin makes the playoffs a couple times and he is set. Also assuming Tomlin has confidence in his abilities, turning the Redskinds into a contender would give his Hof chances a serious boost... he has a sterling regular season record and a super bowl, but his post 2010 playoff failures will doom him here... and frankly even if he won another super bowl here it would be said it was the org, not him...

Its like fluery with the pens... he had to leave to be taken seriously...

I mean with the right payday he would be stupid to not go... his time here is already ticking down and with one big bank he can coach it out then retire to the booth...

you are making me all warm and fuzzy with this nice observation. I just hope Ben is not the one hanging onto to him for dear life if he is whined and dined to be traded to DC. Nice post!

Snyder will offer more in salary than Rooney. He may even offer guaranteed money, longer contract etc. It would be easy to entice Tomlin. Would Rooney go for it? Perhaps, only if he got good draft picks and had a solid replacement in mind.

Are there actually people on this board who will admit to watching a second of Stephen A. Smith talk?

What does it matter what Tomlin wants? They can't lure him away. He's under contract for 3 seasons. So the amount of money they could offer him makes no difference. They'd have to contact Rooney to work out an agreement not Tomlin. It's not like an OC that's going to be a HC.

I'm shocked too. My ears bleed when I hear his incessant crying.

That’s exactly what I posted yesterday. Snyder contacts Art II to negotiate a trade. If Art likes the terms then he brings Cool Shades in for a talk to see what his interest would be. He’d have to give Tomlin permission to talk with Snyder to work out his deal, and the trade compensation is negotiated between the two owners and most likely the GMs but not Tomlin.
BTW, Tomlin is signed for 2020 and 2021 with a club option for 2022.

That guy is ******* tool.
Like Tomlin doesn't have full control here.

Yeah I can't take it for more than a few seconds.

I watched Cris Carter on some FS1 sports talk show calling out Ben for his comments on drafting Rudolph, his arrogance, holding SHADES back, basically stating its HIS (Bens) fault that the Steelers havent been to the show since 2010, and on and on. I'm certainly not calling Ben perfect but really? Is that how people see it? Tomlin cant coach his way out of a two minute drill, a challenge, implementing creative schemes, locker drama, player discipline,, etc etc. I dont have all day here. I am at work, but it's our HOF QB who is at fault for our playoff absence? Ok sure guys. You've got it all figured out. What a bunch of maroons!

Tomlin is the standard bearer of progressive hiring in the NFL coaching ranks and many are loathe to impugn his tenure due to larger sociological considerations. Stephen A makes no bones about it. Much easier to find scapegoats and Ben is a very convenient one at that due to his own negative approval ratings with the public.

Stephen A even said Tomlin and Riddick would sell in DC because it's a "Chocolate City." The best thing that could happen for both teams is for this deal to happen on Black Monday.

Once in a while but at least he doesn’t dislike the Steelers like most in the media.
