grimble and gentry musta got caught buggering each other in the showers
So everything that can be measured James is better but everything that can't be measured and can't be quantified says Vannett is better? Interesting.
for ***** and giggles, our 5th round pick this year, a high 5th round pick at that, was Gentry.
let that sink in before you continue bitching about trading this pick.
This was a great move. They needed a 2nd TE that could block and play immediately. Grimble is just a big WR. If they didn’t get a TE then they would have to start using an OT at TE. I think they may still do that in short yardage.
The run game is struggling. This was a huge need and a modest price.
Despite Gary Dulac's position, I think Vance McDonald has a more serious injury for them to act this quick. No Roosevelt Nix really hurts.
Have you watched his game tape? I went back and did that last night. Vannett blocks better and gets open better. Those aren't on a stat sheet.
We all have opinions and I respect yours.
I welcome any help this kid brings to the field to help Rudy this season...
WELL NO ****, GET A TRUE NT for obvious running plays and the goalline! These stand-up dancing bears get bowled over and knocked on their ***** every run up the middle
I disagree that these are win now trades. Yes, they are obviously immediate needs but Minkah and Vannett also both fill long term needs. The need of a playmaker DB is obvious. A 2nd TE that could block would be a big need for next year as well. They would either have to sign a free agent or draft a TE.
The college game has changed. It is now very hard to find a TE that can actually block. JJ was only a mediocre blocker when drafted but that still put him over most in the draft. Same with Vannett. He’s not Mark Bruener out there but he’s solid and that is very hard to find in the draft.

The Steelers can't draft DBs so they should never draft DBs ever again? That way of thinking is just wrong. You can also use 5th round picks to move up.

Gentry is a TE, not a DB. I know you know that, just pointing it out.
My point is - we don't often get production out of a 5th round pick. Case in point, our current only healthy TE (drafted in the 5th round) prior to this trade is why this trade was facilitated.
You can't play a decent 3-4 without a true NT, but we keep trying. You also can't win with a complete moron as HC, but we keep trying that too.
So what do they have left in next years draft, ....a 2nd and a 7th??
I see what you're saying, Vader. I just don't think it's that valuable of a draft pick in exchange for a proven commodity (albeit in limited snaps)
Tomlin's 5th Round Drafts:
2007 - Cameron Stephenson, William Gay
2008 - Dennis Dixon
2009 - Joe Burnett, Frank Summers
2010 - Chris Scott, Crezdon Butler, Stevenson Sylvester
2011 - Chris Carter, Keith Williams
2012 - Chris Rainey
2013 - Terry Hawthorne
2014 - Shaq Richardson, Wesley Johnson
2015 - Jesse James
2016 - No pick
2017 - Brian Allen, Colin Holba
2018 - Marcus Allen, Jaylen Samuels
2019 - Zach Gentry
Three out of Twenty, or a decent player 15% of the time. The other 85% of the time, a waste of time.
