President Donald Trump's administration on Wednesday revoked landmark guidance to public schools letting transgender students use the bathrooms of their choice, reversing a signature initiative of former Democratic President Barack Obama.

Reversing the Obama guidelines stands to inflame passions in the latest conflict in America between believers in traditional values and social progressives, and is likely to prompt more of the street protests that followed Trump's Nov. 8 election.

Obama had instructed public schools last May to let transgender students use the bathrooms matching their chosen gender identity, threatening to withhold funding for schools that did not comply. Transgender people hailed the step as victory for their civil rights.

Trump, a Republican who took office last month, rescinded those guidelines, even though they had been put on hold by a federal judge, arguing that states and public schools should have the authority to make their own decisions without federal interference.

Facebook now has 71 gender options

Facebook seems to be on a mission to be the most “progressive” social network on the web. In the past, the social network has banned users for saying mildly offensive things, added 50 gender options, allowed users to have customized genders, banned the sale of guns and with the help of the German government, taken action against users accused of “anti-immigration” rhetoric.

Well, you can add 71 genders to the list of stupid things Facebook has done in the past year. Apparently, the only two existing gender, male and female, weren’t progressive enough and neither were the previous 50 genders Facebook had initially added. We now have 21 new genders to bring Facebook’s gender count to a total of 71.



The new genders being added to the list are:

The new genders come as a result of cooperative actions between Facebook and UK groups Press for Change and Gendered Intelligence.

“Gender identities are complex and for many people, describing themselves as just a man or just a woman has always been inadequate,” Professor Stephen Whittle, vice-president at Press for Change is reported saying.

“By challenging the gender binary, Facebook will finally allow thousands of people to describe themselves as they are now and it will allow future generation of kids to become truly comfortable in their own skins.” Ensuring users feel comfortable being their true selves while using the network is a priority, – Simon Milner, Policy Director, UK Middle East & Africa at Facebook.

Before the new update, Facebook was already allowing users to customize and choose any gender they wanted. Users could make up and create anything as their gender. Literally. Anything.

The best part is All in the Family was made by a big liberal. He probably figured Mike would be the liberal hero, and dumb Archie would be the raving lunatic conservative, but it was Archie the public loved.

Same thing with Family Ties. The liberal ex-hippie parents were supposed to be the stars, but Michael J Fox's conservative character Alex P Keaton became the star almost immediately.
