The "gender identity" concept came from a pedophile and human experimenter
The idea started with a sexologist in 1955 named John Money. The concept of gender identity is: what you think you are socially is more important than what you are from a standpoint which balances social and personal views. One problem that stems from this idea is the belief that there are no meaningful differences between the terms "sex" and "gender". John Money had different ideas. He decided to swoop in and perform some "progressive" human social experimentation on this helpless child who had just been mutilated. He then had his parents raise him as a girl while giving him hormone treatments. In what was by all measures the most extreme example of evil from Money, he had the young boy and his twin brother have fake sex acts at a young age in an attempt to make David to be a "bottom." He even made them undress and do even more sex acts such as genital inspection, which he took photographs of on at least one occasion.

David suffered a much more brutal fate: he shot himself in the head with a sawed-off shot gun. This is the originator of "gender identity". Transgender people are such a tiny portion of the population, it seems like reasonable people should be able to work this one out.
Now if you make a transgender male (former female) use the female restroom then that's going to look odd and offend people. How are you going to feel when some dude with a beard and a suit follows your daughter into the ladies? Probably not very comfortable.
There's got to be some reasonable middle ground here.

We lived with the middle ground for years!
The middle ground is that, if the manager of a store sees a guy going into the women's room, even if dressed like a woman, and stops him/her to talk, he shouldn't be treated like some homophobic transgender hating person.

But it's gone deeper than that. When the explanation of gender has been given it's not always accepted. Cops have been called.
So now on the flip side, a man CLAIMS he was born female and enters the female bathroom. One of the "perverts" everyone supporting these laws is afraid of. How does the shop owner verify their gender? Driver's license? Easily faked.

I'd like a reasonable compromise.
I don't think it's fair for people to be jammed up every time that have to use the head, and I don't want people afraid to let their kids go to the bathroom alone. Both sides have merit, and I don't claim to have the answer here.
But absolutists make reasonable solutions impossible.

that misses the point. The point is that immigrants are not citizens. They are people who we ALLOW to live here. As such, their level of crime should be close to ZERO. That's because there should be a screening process in place that only allows in people who have no criminal records and who can contribute to society. Meaning skilled labor.
It is a myth that America has always just thrown open the door and said we'll take anybody at any time. There has always been a selection process. Immigration was nearly stopped completely from the 20s through the 60s. That's because we had enough people to run the economy and just as importantly, it was stopped so that all those immigrants had time to assimilate, to become Americans.
America is said to be the melting pot. That's basically means assimilation. Becoming one people. That doesn't means groups don't also keep their own heritage. Just look at all the cities that have Chinatowns, or Little Italies, St Patricks's parades, etc. These groups keep their heritage while also being Americans. Immigrants wanted their kids learning English and AMerican culture so they could succeed.
now you have liberals fighting against assimilation. They don't want a melting pot, they want a TV dinner with everyone separated and begging government to be allowed in the big fried chicken compartment instead of the little compartment with the peas and carrots.
USA is a sovereign nation, and acting in our own best interest is not un-American or wrong. There is this false narrative that American values means acting in the best interest of the whole world; that America must take the short end of the stick in deals with other countries because we are better off than them.
We do want immigrants, but that doesn't mean we have to accept anybody who shows up. We are allowed to pick and choose.
It does attract high school ditchers and young liberal kids. Close enough
