Trump to reverse Obama-Era use of race in college admissions

**** you.

Finally someone who gets it. Trump seems like he's picking hot button items out of a hat. I guess riling up the base is more important than running the country. Just hope the car doesn't veer off the edge anytime soon....screeching tires around the bends. I'm glad so many of you have the stomach for this. I guess we never knew what would happen if the White House is run like the WWF or The Apprentice. Now we know.

You are too dense to realize that the left is blowing up, total self destruction. They meltdown at Everything, and it’s glorious to behold. Trump is hammering you warped socialists nonstop, pouring it on. Why stop now? Just wait until he nominates the pro-life female Judge from Norte Dame! That will truly be awesome to watch. The democrat party is dying and I’m loving every minute of it. All you have left are a few screamers and the lying media. It won’t be long now... but don’t feel too bad. No one has ever accused you of being a visionary. You’ve been wrong about pretty much everything in this forum.

Geez, sensitive bunch today. In theory I agree with Sarge and others everything in life should be merit-based, skills-based, intelligence-based, social skills-based and on and on. I get it. I also feel - in general - white kids from middle and upper class families have a head start over kids from different, less comfortable and advantageous backgrounds. I like the idea that our higher education admissions at least take that into consideration, in some way. I am opposed to strictly race-based admissions, but do think there should be some consideration made to allow for less privileged kids a chance to get into colleges and universities so they can better themselves and their families and become the next great doctors, engineers, architects and astronauts. Do I want less qualified kids to get in because they're minorities? No, but I would like to see an equally qualified minority / hardship student make it, over say a rich family's kid who's dad schmoozes with the dean or happens to be a big donor, or simply has 'the connections' to make it happen.

As usual, I do play devil's advocate on this board, as it's skewered so hard to the right. I apologize if my post caused anyone to have a brain aneurysm, hope it works out okay.

Agree 100%. You take the word "race" and replace it with "background and upbringing" and I'm in.

Unfortunately, it's never written that way. Wonder why....

Makes me wonder if he is just taking the tactics of the left. Moving on from one emotional omg,, to another issue. What happened to Russia, David Hogg, children separation.,, etc. I think he just said **** it. Moving on.

They're running out of bullshit. It's been the same bullshit on repeat for 50 years.

So Tibs and Trog agree that Obama enacted racist policies.

Thankfully, Trump and Sessions realize that institutionalizing racism was bad for America.

The ones getting screwed now are Asians and poor white kids from rural areas. I think poor kids from rural areas have it the worst as there are no businesses and wealthy people near them setting up foundations and scholarships like there are in urban areas.

Yep....and also a major reason that heroin and opioid addictions have basically taken over white rural America and are destroying our youth and entire communities...

I am all for this. But I would have been even more for it if I had gotten to abuse the system a little first. Looks like my kids won't be able to count on this bit of an edge come college time..

That's the liberal myth...it's hard working poor kids vs. slacking off kids of rich donors. That's not the reality at all. The super rich kids whose parents can afford to make big donations will always get in. Colleges need them. It's the children of hard-working professionals who get the shaft.

If you work hard, put yourself through college and create a half decent life for your kids instead of sitting home doing drugs and collecting welfare, your kids will be at a disadvantage in admissions (oh and you will also get to subsidize tuition for druggie's kids). My kids worked their butts off in school and the idea that because they didn't come from a crappy life with ****** up parents they are less deserving is pretty crazy. What kind of incentives does that create?

Not only that, if you are wealthy and privileged and you just happen to be black or Hispanic you will get in over wealthy and privileged white kids with higher stats. It's not really about economic disadvantages, it's about being able to fill out the racial pie chart on the school profile in a politically correct manner. We've seen this happen in real life and honestly even the (wealthy) minority kids know they have a leg up in admissions and will joke about it.

And by the way if there was no racial discrimination many of our top colleges would probably be half Asian and Indian (or more). It's not good enough just to be a minority, you have to be one of the "right" minorities.

I doubt any college or University cares what the White House thinks. This proclamation is just their guidance, doesn't have
anything to do with the law.

The way the system works is you make Medical School and Law school very expensive so only the rich can send their kids.
Then everyone else gives their money back to the rich when medical and legal fees are so high. That's how the rich
stay rich.

The dumbest **** you will read on the intrawebz today right here folks.

Well either that or they work hard for a living and have a high paying job.

As a matter of fact, I would say most political debates between Conservatives and Liberals can be boiled down to something you just said. Liberals assume a rich person has stolen or swindled someone out of their money to become rich and Conservatives assume a rich person has marketable skills and works their *** off to get rich.

The ignorance of that statement is mind-blowing. Do you even know that "Rich" is not a static tier? People are moving from rich to poor and poor to rich everyday. You really think all doctors come from a certain class of people that have maintained their "Richness" for generations? How absurd.

BTW my grandfather was a surgeon in NY. He was one of the top surgeons in the country and one of the most educated men in America. Yet I'm a school teacher with no inherited wealth at all.

My brother in law is a doctor. His father is a retired teacher. His mother cleaned houses for a couple elderly people. They are hardly what I would describe as rich, or even well off. They are your average lower-middle class Americans.

Also, he graduated medical school in 1997. He just paid off his student loans about 4 years ago. Rich indeed.

The delusions of liberals never cease to amaze me.

I know numerous people who are doctors and lawyers who came from literally nothing. My sister and my-sister in-law just for starters. Neither one received one penny of financial support from their parents.

Not to mention that today low income people receive generous financial aid packages, subsidized by those evil high wage earners who pay full freight. .

Like Ben Carson. I know he is an Uncle Tom to the left, but the dude should be held up as an example of success.

Here is a report from UK that shows the wealthy dominate medical school there. It is likely more pronounced in the US.
It doesn't mean that anyone can't be a Doctor, it just shows that if you raise the cost of something it will favor those who
can afford it without going into debt.

The top 1 to 3% of the wealthy are pretty entrenched in the US. People aren't falling in and out of this class.

Seriously? You can't be an adult. Do you know that 70% of the rich lose their wealth by the 2nd generation? Or that 90% lose it by the 3rd?

You can't be this obtuse...

I guess if I said Yacht purchases skew to the wealthy, one of you would say, "but I know a school janitor that owns one".
