USC UCLA to the Big 10?

Oregon and Washington will be the next to leave.
Oregon and Washington reached out to the Big 10 and the Big 10 said it is standing pat for now.this according to CBS Sports reporter Dennis Dodd. There are more dominoes ready to fall

I saw USC play at State College. PSU had Curtis Enis at RB. The signs said Trojans can’t contain our Enis.
Yep, and PSU beat them in '93, '94 and '96 all in August and early Sep games in State College and East Rutherford NJ. I want to see a southern Cal team play in a snowstorm for once. Maybe understand why Big Ten teams build their teams the way they do.

4 big conferences for playoff teams?

So say if the ncaa goes 4-5 conferences, does the playoff bracket expand to more teams. Do all conferences get a crack at the playoff system?

This has gotten out of hand. So the Rose Bowl will be meaningless as a Conference to Conference competition. College football is on a downward slide with only 2- 3 semi pro teams competing for the Championship.

That's how it's been for years in terms of teams competing for titles. Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma, then some combination of LSU and Georgia and maybe a random team here and there. That's it. The bad part of all this is the tradition and rivalries just being tossed aside.

You mean two big conferences...
All the cast off schools will likely prosper into two different conferences but the question remains will they get a shot at playoff contention or will it only be the SEC and Big 10? Or Big 20 or whatever?

I’m a UGA alum and sometimes I am a booster sending donations. I’m glad the Dawgs won it all before all this conference stuff ruins college football. Even as a proud alum. I am not on board with the 2024 format.

I definitely agree it will likely break into four big conferences of around 20 teams each, however, only two will be "big" with the revenue and program disparity. Considering I don't collect a dime from it, a middle-tier program would be better off in one of the two lesser conferences with lower revenue because they'll have a better chance to compete.

I agree that it's gotten out of hand. But major college football has become less and less about traditions, rivalries, and team championships. Today, it's more about money, and individuals furthering their own cause to prepare for the NFL.

A generation ago, a player skipping his team's bowl game for fear of injury was practically unheard of. Now it's commonplace.

It's sad, really.

I dunno, but nothing can be more absurd than a non-conference champion being included in a four team playoff field.

Meh. Tradition doesn’t pay the bills.
As bothersome as it is for the fans. I don’t blame players for skipping the bowl games.

Now that players can get paid and ink endorsements in college. Maybe some semblance - of new- traditions and rivalries happen.

The new traditions will be college is now MLB where small market teams are farm teams to big market teams. Players will develop with a mid-tier team and transfer the next year for pay-for-play money because a lot of these deals certainly aren’t NIL.

The NIL is going to open up a whole nuther door in college foozball.
Enjoy the last few good years while you can. 2024 is going to be all sorts of ******

NIL was fine. This whole idea of boosters groups framing pay for play as NIL is lousy. Some high school QB recruit supposedly just got $9.5 million from Miami. The biggest NFL stars would have trouble getting those types of advertising deals let alone a kid no one has ever heard of.

many different sites out there claiming the Big 12 is going to meet with the two AZ schools, Utah and Colorado about joining up.

Still leaves the Big 12 with out a marquee name, but they would have a bunch of solid teams

I don't like it BUT i do think it will start to level the playing field. Are we going to pretend that teams like Bama haven't been paying guys for years? Saban pretty much accused Texas A&M of paying guys which is freaking hilarious coming from him. This just opens up the pool of teams that will be paying players. It sucks for teams that aren't big money.

As a Penn State fan it will be exciting. They are one of the biggest money programs and have many alums with deep pockets who are now allowed to spend it. Say what you want about Franklin but the guy can recruit.

Bowls are pretty much meaningless now. The Rose was the last with some meaning because it still had it's history of BIG vs Pac and the parade and everything. That's done now with USC jumping ship.

Conference titles are now meaningless. It started with the playoff and then the final nail was when the committee selected Ohio state over Big Ten Champ Penn State. From that point, conference titles were utterly meaningless. It's about getting into the playoffs. As the playoffs will surely expand, teams are now making moves to increase their odds of getting selected.

They see small teams and conferences as the obstacle. Not to get political, but we are seeing that same thing with big businesses trying to snuff out the mom and pops and are being aided in that mission by certain policies. That's what's going to happen in college football. We are headed toward a semi pro league of maybe 40 teams. That's what ESPN wants. They'd much rather have 1 national league than a bunch of regional teams.

The irony of all of this is many a woke sportscaster has demanded players be paid so they not be exploited and that's exactly what's going to start happening. I won't be surprised if teams start dropping scholarships and now thousands of kids won't get a scholarship at all so that a select few have enough money for a Tesla and a bunch of tats.

Tradition didn't "pay the bills" for decades upon decades, yet many good college players still eventually found themselves in the NFL, didn't they?

What new traditions and rivalries are going to result because of that, exactly? Who can get the nicest Bentley?

Different times. Different contracts. Too much money now to risk a career for “tradition”.

It’s a new era. Just because it doesn’t appease your view doesn’t mean new rivalries and traditions are created. Just don’t watch if it bothers you.

There’s always going to be someone or some group abusing the deals. That’s the nature of cut throat business
