USC UCLA to the Big 10?

Tape, to your point I’m surprised the top teams didn’t just get together and skip this middle step along the way. There was a lot more money to be made for a TV deal with the elite programs while dumping bad schools like Maryland, Rutgers, Illinois, Vanderbilt, etc.

I think those schools will be given a trial test for a season or two. They’ll be phased out eventually as the battle for media markets comes fully into play. I’d assume the SEC will want to get markets like Dallas, Nashville, Atlanta, Miami.

The Big(whatever number they become) have the major east and west coast markets locked. New york and LA

All the small markets need to make some noise in the rankings to stand a chance and I think they will. It’s not a format I agree with, but 2024 it is what it is

My only thought is the elite programs don't like losing and when those teams are gone, some traditional power team will have to fill the void.

I bet Rutgers can't wait to have a road game at USC.
WVU has been playing in the Big 12 for the last 10 years or so. They got a ton of money but I sure miss the old rivalries and I'd have to assume overall interest is nowhere close to the way it was when playing local teams. Hope they'll eventually get into the ACC. Seems like a good match about a quarter to half the conference is made up of old Big East teams.

well that is better than Houston who got shut out of the Big XII, lost all their historic rivalry games and made hardly any money at all

Hope things work out where our teams find a way to renew those local rivalries. That's what made college football so great, even if the team had a tough stretch.

well Houston is headed to the Big XII (if they survive) and will match up against Tx Tech, Baylor and TCU which will be big for a program that has been dragging itself back to being relevant....sort of anyway....

Is Holgerson still coaching there? If so, no doubt it will be a big game against WVU.

No idea what the Mountaineers are going to do, conference wise. They have to be spending a fortune to travel to away games and you know it has to wear on the players. The SEC and ACC have told them to take a hike several times in the past, so that probably won't change.

Yes Holgerson is the head football coach. He had a hell of a year last season

Different times. Different contracts. Too much money now to risk a career for “tradition”.

It’s a new era. Just because it doesn’t appease your view doesn’t mean new rivalries and traditions are created. Just don’t watch if it bothers you.
Sure it is. Just because it's all about money now isn't a huge problem for me, bud -- my son's already getting looked at by D-1 schools, and he just finished the 9th grade. I'll be watching it very closely, thanks, but it doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see Pitt and Penn State play again for the 101st time.

And what will those new rivalries/traditions be, that you're talking about? I'll ask you again: Like what?

I'm still waiting for all these exciting new rivalries and traditions that came about from the last round of conference realignment.

That’s up for the students/teams/conferences to decide what new traditions and legacies they want to build.

Congrats to your son btw.

I think the SEC and Big 10 are both headed for 20 teams, but if they each super conference than a third leftover team super conference will form. Houston offers the texas market so they probably get a bid in that third super conference if texas tech moves to one of the top two… if the ACC survives, they could be interested too…

The Freaking Ultimate Conference

One story out there has the Big XII getting bold and going after 8 ACC schools to hit 20 first and try to get around the ACC's grant of rights issues

Texas Tech is out in Lubbock....not much there and not much interest in them in Dallas or Houston.

TCU is in Fort Worth which would get the BIG into the Dallas Market

Maybe the ACC gets their act together and makes a move, they could possibly be interested in getting into the Houston market. UH has struggled for years after getting ****** out of the Big XII by the Texas Governor being a Baylor grad.

They finally got a school President who recognized the value quality teams bring to University and then got some deep pocketed alumni to step up. The basketball team was in the Final Four in 2021 and the Elite Eight last year without two of their top players. The football team has been improving and started sending high picks in the draft. The invite to the Big XII was huge (even with Tx and OU leaving).

It would be a real ******* kick in the balls if they get kicked to the curb again in this round of realignment

8 ACC teams:
VA Tech
Miami
FL State
Boston College
Louisville
Pitt
GA Tech
Syracuse

I wonder how much the markets matter versus big brands. No one in the New York market is watching Rutgers and the premiere games aren't on BTN, they're on ESPN or ABC. It seems like the wiser move now would be to bring in the best brands for the best matchups each week. Since college has slowly destroyed so many great rivalry games, you need to manufacture that type of weekly excitement with great matchups, or in the words of Tomlin "five-star matchups."

SEC hit a homerun here with Texas and Oklahoma. The Sooners are a perennial contender while Texas is mediocre as a program recently carries a big brand name. Look at the teams at the top of the SEC: Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, Auburn, maybe even Tennessee. That's a deep pool of games that will draw viewers.

The Big 10 isn't quite as deep with programs, but still has Ohio State, Michigan, USC, Penn State, Wisconsin, Iowa (if you like 3 yards and a cloud of dust), and maybe Michigan State. USC obviously added to the depth, not so much with UCLA.

and out of those teams, Only Miami, FL State, and Pitt matter. Louisville has had ten #1 draft picks since 2000, which is a joke. Syracuse is the #1 target team for a homecoming game, they should move to the FCS.

Syracuse used to be tough back in the Big East days. Not sure what happened to them.

It depends what the guys running the tv side want.

Honestly some kids want an in area team to wherever they go so there are recruiting values to additional markets too

Honestly, the SEC, not big ten, should make a run at Pitt… the big ten already has psu from PA. … but again its whoever runs their tv sides call

I just don’t think Pitt, or any team outside of Notre Dame, is worth that much in a new TV deal for any conference at this point. Then again, I’m not the one writing the check.

Since the B1G decided to make this overreaching move to gobble up USC and UCLA, they'd better have a plan to add some more West Coast/SouthWest teams to the conference to lessen the overall travel load on those teams. I'm at a loss as to why they told Washington and Oregon to pump their brakes. They should have snapped them up along with offering a team like Baylor and/or Houston. Could you imagine Baylor joining a conference where they'd actually have to play defense?
