Venezuelans are eating zoo animals...

I'm honestly about ready to turn Elfie off. He's going off the deep end in many a thread these days.

That said, I kind of agree with the corporatocracy idea. I think government (and specifically Republicans) have not been doing enough to create and protect true free market ideals. They have protected the well-being of the super-corporations it seems to me above protecting the ideals of simple business creation and fair practice and anti-monopoly checks/balances.

I'm not sure which side of the aisle anymore sticks up for the protection, creation and ability to start small business and its ability to compete fairly against the megalopolis/global industrial elites. I don't think it's the Republicans or the Democrats.

It couldn't have been anymore obvious than with all the incentives given to start wind farms and all the money that went to GE wind turbines... Think about how many politicians lined their pockets with GE money for that and GE then just reimbursed itself with the subsidies given to keep that industry afloat. It was like a big *** turbine blade that obliterates scenic mountain views, along with birds and bats,,it just keeps going around and around and around.

Personally with the exception of the fringe conservatives and uber liberal representatives I still think the core Reps and the Dems are all in the same boat. They just put on a show to make us think we are somehow involved in the process.

That **** has been on my ignore for quite a long time. Sometimes, I will unhide a post to read it. Like watching a video of a train wreck. You don't, really, want to see it, but you click "Play", anway.

Government overregulation has a dual purpose. It prevents competition by increasing the costs to smaller businesses which helps the "representative's" buddies AND gives the government more power which the "representatives" REALLY like.

You are correct that both sides of the aisle have forsaken free enterprise market system.

It is funny, because, the leftist want the corporations and money out of politics (So, they say, but we know it is not true) and the best way would be to reduce government to such a small part of the process, the corporations wouldn't need to bribe the "representatives" because they wouldn't have any favors to sell.

Yeah, as I've seen when ze argues with the rest of us long enough ze will end up contradicting zimself.

Very true. It's why Congress never wants tax reform.

Congress members on both sides do not want to give up the power over other peoples behavior that the tax code gives them, I say all the time that the Pols can't peddle influence that they don't have.

So, you are underpaying this poor guy by $63,000?

No. It's what U.S. Steel would have to pay him to do the same job here. His job is not worth $75K to me. He's happy with what he makes. Perhaps you've heard that labor is cheap in Mexico. Here in the States I could never have an employee like him in the steel mills. The unions would never allow him to move a drum or adjust a pump. My company doesn't perform any "labor" in the mills here, only sales and technical support. In Mexico they don't give a ****. They still slam drinks at lunch. The restaurants have 2 for 1 beer specials. Which is nice, because they can't pour a real drink to save their lives.

It was a joke....

elfiePolo is the fat kid trying to squeeze into skinny jeans. It is disturbing, hilarious, disgusting, laughable, and pitiable, but you just cannot help making fun of her - no matter that doing so is astoundingly easy.

DING, DING, DING!! Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

Government regulations and taxes benefit, in order, (1) government, (2) government employees, (3) extra-large businesses, (4) large businesses and ... nobody else.

Regulations crush small businesses that went to enter the market and compete with the large businesses, which have paid politicians to adopt the regulations that constitute a clear "barrier to entry." A free market has a lack of barriers to entry of competitors, so the rules, regulations, taxes, government filings, etc. inevitably reduce competition and foster a bastardized market, akin to an oligopoly with some free market characteristics.

The only - ONLY - entity which can create a monopoly is government.

Yes, and the American Civil War ended in 1865 and along with it slavery. Yeah...we have NO lingering effects from that..........

That's correct, we have no lingering effects. Continuing to blame imaginary "lingering effects" of slavery for the plight of a segment of the black population in 2017 is a copout.

Oh wait....I do recall Adrian Peterson saying the NFL is like modern day slavery, and also basketball star Dramond Green using a slave-master analogy, and Kaepernicks girlfriend referring to a photo of Ray Lewis and owner Biscotti hugging as a slave owner porch monkey situation...so yeah there's something to be said about your "lingering effects" of slavery drivel.

The rate of black illegitimate births and single-parent households in the 1930's when we were a lot closer to slavery was about one-third the rate it is now.

Because most people are like cattle or like children. The enlightened have to herd them and care for them.

If you ask a kid if he wants ice cream for breakfast he's going to ask if he can have it for lunch and dinner as well.

And while it may be great for the child, an adult knows what it leads to healthwise.

America today is the product of corpocracy. America also had a unique colonial situation both in terms of length of rule and race.

These two posts show elfies true colors. Liberal elitist hypocrite

Lack of government to allow violence/intimidation can create monopolies too. I mean that's kind of what started the monopoly busting that took place under Teddy Roosevelt. The big companies were doing all sorts of violent, illegal intimidation to snuff out the competition. You need government to prevent that from happening to some degree (obviously not a police state, but at least enforce law and order).

I believe they have gone WELL beyond "some degree"..

If more immigrants are good for the economy, why is every place that immigrants come from a Third World shithole?

my father came to Venezuela when he was 6 years old from an impovered Portugal due to WWII, 6 brothers and sisters, all worked since kids to help but only he, the youngest, had the opportunity to go to college, he is now a very well recognized plastic surgeon in Caracas, he has the portuguese nationality too but he doesn't want to leave this country but trust me if I tell you that if he ever does he will be an inmigrant you would be happy to have in your country. Best guy in the world, I try every day of my life to be as good as him.

So no, it doesn't matter where the inmigrants come from but who they are, how they are. He came here as a kid with nothing and this country gaves him everything and he's been doing the same working for free too in hospitals to give back, just because he wants to.

And if one day I have to move to your country escaping from this horrible narco-dictatorship I hope you don't look down on me like a filthy 3rd world inmigrant from a shithole

We actually have a board member in Venezuela, you could ask his opinion....

yes, it's been happening stuff like that, people eating from the garbage, etc. The hyper-inflation is making oursalary become peanuts as everything is now imported and we don't produce almost anything,

This is what this government left us, since the dead Chavez instilled the "21st century socialism" which was just an excuse for corruption, decadence, nepotism, etc that now has us deep in a hole of debt and a an unproductive system. Trust me this isn't socialism, this is just a dictatoriship where the leaders and their friends and family got insanely rich stealing while the rest of the population became poor.
Of course, the military is bought too, they also are deep in the drugs business and that's why they won't let a change happen.

My apologies, that wasn't what I meant. My issue is with people who leave their third world shithole then want to live the same way and do the same things as they did back home. That doesn't help either them or us. Yet the Liberals say we need more immigrants to help the economy. Our immigration system as constructed since 1965 has been set up to let in lots of unskilled labor, many of whom will end up dependent on some sort of government aid and will therefore vote Democrat. Educated professionals like yourself, who it would be nice to have more of, are much more limited.

thanks, yes we really don't want to be given anything but the opportunity to work and earn an honest living. Of course, there are always bad people and that's why it's good that you should ask for at least a level of education.and of course if you take me in I obviously will respect and cherish your laws and costumes, we are not extreme muslims.

It's clear very few people here have any type of understanding of what's happening in Venezuela. You lazily point to it as an example of a failed-Socialist state yet the issues have very little to do with that and everything to do with years of rampant corruption and nepotism. But this side of the board thrives on superficial discussions, disinformation, clichés, and a frat boy party level of comprehension in discussing politics, economics and world issues. It is what it is, no need to stray off the beaten path.

That's all I'm saying. More doctors and accountants are fine. We don't need more landscapers and dishwashers. All that does is depress wages for others who are already low-wage workers.

I know Italy's economy sucks but I'm seriously trying to get a work visa because I'd like to live and work there for a year and keep running into brick walls. It's damn near impossible. But then too, like us the EU makes it hard for professionals but lets in literal boatloads of essentially illegal immigrants who want to turn it into the shithole they left.

You know Burgundy has a masters degree in economics right?

Total state control always leads to corruption and socialism is always soft communism waiting for the right moment to turn hard. As someone who's family fled the communist state of of Cold War Hungary I would have thought you would know this.

Chavez was the epitome of socialism. To deny that fact is just ignorant.

And no offense meant to you, Litos. I hope you get through this as best as possible.

Offense meant to Tibtard and ****.

But thank God you are here to set the rest of us straight. You have sources of info that the rest of us don't have access to....like the Huffpo and Daily Kos.
