Vince Williams - Crying like a *****

I stand corrected. Should have said negotiated contracts with players who had one year remaining. Regardless, I think we can say that they don't plan on keeping him around. S'all right Vince, you'll get snapped up by Arizona about 20 seconds after the Steelers let you walk.

I'm not sure about their long-term plays with Williams, but three years down the road, I can't imagine Timmons will have much left.

True, but I think Williams is Just A Guy, and a slightly Below The Line JAG at that. LB's as good or better come out in the draft or get released by other teams every year.

No one is saying he shouldn't be replaced or we don't need an upgrade. You're saying he is crying like a *****, he's a competitor who wants to prove he's worthy of starting, more power to him.

What did you really want him to say Joe? Yeah I suck, I really wanted to be replaced? In fact I suck so much they should just outright cut me?

I stated what I would expect him to say. I'll state it again. "I want to start, but I understand this is a team sport, so I'm going to go out there and do my best, but I want this team to win, so I whatever I can do to help that is what I want." Period. That's what you say. You can THINK in your head all you want that you're going to sit that draft pick down with your work ethic and with your chip on your shoulder, but you think it, you don't say it. Locker room cancer stuff.

There will be 20 guys on the waiver wire by the end of training camp who are at least as good. Very good chance he won't be on the roster by the regular season.

You base this on what?

I don't know if he will be on roster or not, but he wasn't very good last year. Even to the point of making Timmon's play lower. Timmons had to compensate a lot,
thus a contributing factor to the overall play, of the defensive unit. If there is another option, I say explore it. Keep in mind that the new prospect's up side / ability
has to exceed to the point, to over come the learning of the system. In other wards, new guy has to play better than Vince does right now, to compensate for the
learning / experience it takes to fit in. Why get a guy of similar ability, only to have the break in adjustment. Kapish?

There is NO WAY Vince Williams gets cut. Keith Butler is high on him, loves the depth that he provides behind Timmons and what he is going to bring to special teams. Last season he played as well as you could ask for a 6th round pick who was thrown into the fire way before he should have been. This thread is incredibly dumb. We should be talking about how great it is to see a 6th round draft pick making great strides in his 2nd season.

agree, there's no reason to cut him

I tend to agree in this case.

Vince is a classic case of the debate about demanding instant results vs. giving a rookie time to develop. It is sort of like the chicken and the egg argument and will never be resolved.

I'd be absolutely stunned. He started as a rookie and has significantly grown as a player in his second year. Quite possibly the hardest hitting linebacker on the team who could easily step in for an injury and could have a role as in the goal-line defense. The Steelers have kept MUCH worse players on their roster.

Maybe, but last year he lost his job to a rookie who wasn't all that either. Don't get me wrong, I hope he improves and has a great camp but backup LB's on an 8-8 team with the 24th ranked defense don't have room to talk smack about how they should be starting.

Huh? When did he lose his job to another rookie last year? It was Kion Wilson who was initially handed the job...he didn't last long and Williams took over. Terrance Garvin did get some snaps as well but only because of his coverage skills. Vince had 53 tackles in 2013. Kion has 12 and Garvin had 11.
