Kyle Busch ....out of the 500 - and probably a long time after this crash

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Kyle Busch will miss the Daytona 500 after suffering a broken right leg and left foot following a hard crash into an interior concrete wall during an Xfinity Series race Saturday at Daytona International Speedway.

Statement from Joe Gibbs Racing Regarding Injury Status of Kyle Busch

Kyle Busch, driver of the No. 54 Toyota for Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR), sustained a compound fracture of the right lower leg in an accident during Saturday’s NASCAR XFINITY Series race at Daytona (Fla.) International Speedway. Additionally, Busch suffered a mid-foot fracture of his left foot in the accident.

Busch was transported to a local hospital for treatment immediately following the accident and is currently undergoing surgery on his right leg. Busch’s injuries will sideline him for an undetermined period of time.

Veteran Matt Crafton will serve as the interim driver for Busch’s No. 18 Toyota during Sunday’s 57th Daytona 500.

An interim driver has not been determined for the following race March 1 at Atlanta Motor Speedway in Hampton, Georgia, or for any future races

Not a big fan of Kyle, but I don't want to see anyone get hurt. He's lucky he wasn't killed. Pretty sure there will be a safer barrier on that wall come July. Should have been there already, especially at that track. I agree with the announcers saying all tracks should have safer barriers on outside AND inside walls. How many times has Gordon done the same thing?

Kurt is a head case. I really think he has a screw or two loose. He might be bipolar with all of the incidents he's had over the years. How many times has he been fired? 3 or so? Anyway, he definitely should not be driving a race car at almost 200 mph. His career is probably over.

It will be nice watching today's race and neither Busch brother being a factor.

Logano wins - Harvick second. Some dummy wrecked 24 on the last lap as Happy was making his move on Logano's back bumper...once the yellow came out since it was a green white checkered - Harvick conceded for 2nd...

Oh well...

First On Race Day.
i was hoping Gordon or Junior would win even though they drive Chevys.

I don't like either one of them. I read yesterday that Kurt is being treated for alcoholism and depression.

Sooooo, that race sucked. Very much. Major suckage…. as in, A LOT.

Yeah Spike it sure did but the good thing for me as I sit here with 3 foot of snow outside it wasn't like I wasted my day, not a whole lot for me to do. It was a good excuse to eat and drink and take a snooze here and there, lol!

NASCAR shouldn't have called the caution on the final lap - IMO, the wreck had nothing to do w/ the front runners and it took away a dramatic finish. I think Harvick would have put more pressure on Joey and could have changed the outcome. Oh well...

They had to do so, more cars were coming into the wreck area.

Johnson wins another snoozer in atlanta. What's happened to this sport recently that has made.it.so dull? I found.myself watching more golf.today than racing

Ha! Better to be lucky than good!

It was a miracle day for matt the way everything turned out at the end

it was a crashfest and we weren't in any of them

NASCAR changes qualifying inspection for next three races

Following last weekend's qualifying debacle at Atlanta Motor Speedway where 13 drivers didn't get through technical inspection in time to make a qualifying attempt, NASCAR has amended the Friday schedules for the next three race weekends: Las Vegas, Phoenix and Fontana.

The changes will allow an extra 15 minutes for teams to prepare their cars for inspection and for officials to complete the inspection process.

A crappy day at a crappy race

I turned it off to watch some golf entertainment

Stop it - today was Harvick's day. I just hope he can keep the pressure on the field!!!

Go Harvick!!!!!!

I have no problem with Harvick.

I think NASCAR shot themselves in the foot trying to spread their popularity. They took a race away from the classic Darlington and totally did away with North Wilkesboro and added races to ****** tracks like Phoenix and New Hampshire, that are both part of the chase. I'd much rather see Darlington and Martinsville and/or Richmond be part of the chase.

Kinda like the NHL moving teams from Canada to the Sunbelt where no one cares.

Finally, an exciting finish for a change. Good sports day, flipping channels between college b-ball, golf, and racing.

it was a ****** day in b-ball and a ****** day of racing according to me

MATT KENSETH, No. 20 Dewalt Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing
Finishing Position: 31st

Do you think you should have won today?

“I think the 4 (Kevin Harvick) and the 41 (Kurt Busch) were the class of the field. I thought we had a top-five car all day and then I just had the best pit crew and they kept getting me out with the lead and giving me a shot, so it’s disappointing. More so than the axle breaking, I’m just disappointed we’re leading and we know them guys are a couple laps short and we got ourselves in position really nicely and there’s a debris caution and you can’t find debris anywhere "

Can you speculate why the axle broke?

“I don’t know. The axle broke leaving the pit – leaving the pit stall. I don’t know. I let the clutch out to go and the axle broke. I don’t know why. I didn’t do anything different than we ever do, so it just broke.”

Can you chalk this up to bad luck?

“No, I don’t think that’s luck. An axle breaking is either a faulty part or not the right part or not the gear ratio or – there’s usually a reason. We busted one last year – somebody did, one of our cars – and I don’t know that we ever figured out why and then we just broke another one, so it’s certainly something you’ve got to get a handle on. You can’t break parts. Nobody breaks parts anymore, so you can’t afford to do it obviously.”
