Watt gets paid

When you respond the way you do you are well aware there are weaknesses in your argument. You know well enough that the most important thing is to have better coaches, regardless of the staff size. It has to start there. If you add to the size of the staff with better coaches, fine. I'd be all for that. But you have painted yourself into a corner with "Bigger staff! Bigger staff!"
Who said anything about just adding coaches to add coaches? Nice straw argument professor. You don’t think a passing coordinator would be in order here?

Show me a competitive team that says nah we’re good, we don’t need any more help

So your argument is to use this fragment of an article with no link that could be entirely incurrate (because Rooney is not obligated in the least to divulge his finances) that shows Rooney is ONLY worth 1.2 billion, that makes it hard to do guaranteed contracts?

How many guaranteed contracts do most teams have? Probably 0-2 on average since the earlier article mentions Jackson as unprecented…

So Rooney had to put 120 million in escrow for Watt…you realize he’s making/recouping tens of millions a year on TV, merchandise, game day/tickets right?

Rooney does business the way Rooney wants to do business, he runs the team based on tradition, not forward thinking, that’s the problem
The source for the rankings in the article is Forbes. You asked for facts I gave you facts. Then you attack my facts. This feels like a discussion about politics. I didn't make this **** up. that you want to blow it off is up to you but it is a huge part of the dynamics of the league for small market owners without multiple billions and liquidity. I think the Steelers do a damn good job within these restrictions but don't pretend it isn't an issue. It is one of the big reasons they bring in minority owners. It is why some teams can repeatedly make stupid contracts.

Also I posted 2 articles and you seem to have ignored the first one.

Just googled team revenue in 2024, got a Forbes article:

in 2024 595 million in revenue, 295 million in player salaries, no mention of operating expenses, let’s go rediculously high and say it’s 100 million. Thats 200 million in profit in ONE year. Poor Rooney!!! I do believe he will be ok doing a few gauranteed contracts

You never mentioned better coaches. You seem to have fixated on the size of staff. Maybe I missed something.

Idk if a passing coordinator would be in order. Maybe. I am not discounting what you are saying. I'm not sure it is the sure fire answer to more success. Again, most teams have bigger staffs than the Steelers apparently. Some teams with that are more successful. Some are not. Again, using the Eagles example. 2023, they lost 6 of their last 7 and were bounced from the playoffs early. They had all those things. They change coaches at various spots in '24 and win the Super Bowl. That says to me it is less about staff size than it is finding the right coaches.

There is no doubt I see football more simply than you do. And as I said before, maybe you are right. I just see it as football. To me, you still have to block better, run better, catch better and tackle better than your opponent to win, same as you did in 1975. Regardless of coaching staff size.

roughly they have nearly 150,000,000 tied up in escrow for player guarantees currently through 2027. It is manageable but it most definitely affects their budgeting. If they had a franchise QB on a non rookie contract the math would be far different. It is a real part of the reason they would lose out on players in free agency when we had Ben. They are far better at managing it than idiot teams like the Bungles but don't think for a second it doesn't matter particularly compared to deep pocket owners.

From the sounds of the interview with Rodgers I read he may be his own passing game coordinator. Happily it sounds like he is being given some latitude. Lets hope it translates onto the field and play calling.

150 million tied up in escrow against 200 million a year in revenue with a net worth of 1.2 Billion isn’t a problem in my opinion, but we can disagree

Cherry picking one season for the eagles to say more coaches don’t help is weak.

The Eagles have 8 playoff wins, a Lombardi, and another super bowl appearance in the last 8 seasons, compared to nada for the Steelers. I’d say that might be a reason to make some changes based on how the Eagles do things

I agree it isn't a huge problem if properly managed but what happens if and when we have to pay a franchise QB again along with a few star WRs. If you have truly deep pockets, you only worry about the cap but when you are not extremely rich and liquid you have to worry about cash flow. Look at the Bengals and their hesitancy to give Trey his guarantees and cash. 150,000,000 is over 10% their NetWorth. That is a big amount to be tied up for anyone.

Your sensitivity must cause you not to read, because I didn't say they don't help. I said they may help, they may not. Again, if that is the sure fire answer, and since the Steelers have the smallest staff in the league, why aren't they the worst team in the league?

You already admitted the Bengals are a train wreck, so nice try

The original point was hire some more assistants. We’re not talking about OC or DC coordinators so we’re taking say 250k x 4 assistants is 1 million. You don’t think Rooney can swing that? Again 200 billion estimated net in income a year…

You’re so Tomlinzed lol….you go with the hey they’re not the worst in the league so it’s all good argument…No need to experiment and stretch yourself to evolve and improve!

Winning playoff games is totally optional for the mid/late Tomlin years I guess…
