We HAVE to go DL in round 1

Larry isn't it. Cam 1 year older. We are in a division with chubb and Henry.

We HAVE to go DL
You might be right here. I have a hard time thinking DL might not be the BPA and to be honest it probably the Steelers greatest positional weakness. When need and value get engaged…

i hope they go BPA
if all of these guys were available, who's BPA to you between:

DTs: Grant, Harmon, Tylek Wiliams
WRs: Burden, Golden, Egbuka
CBs: Barron, Revel, Morrison

I'm assuming DTs Graham and Nolen gone, Wr McMillan gone too, CBs Hunter & Johnson gone.

Meh....in our current D scheme we only ask our DL to rush the QB....tackling the RB is secondary. Even on running downs. So taking DL in round one would be like taking a RB in round one. Wasteful.

Henry ran all over this Def. A lot of RBs did. They need a huge upgrade
Again ....we don't put stopping the run up on the list of things to do on defense. Heyward has had career years in the twilight of his career in the sack department. Seems as if our run defense has gone downhill about the same time. Maybe it is just a big coincidence.

Also, I was told by numerous people on here that our run D wasn't an issue when I said we were getting gouged on the ground....quick check shows we gave up 102.7 yards per game. Ranked 7th best in the NFL.

I guess time will tell which way the Steelers go. I for 1 say trenches until trenches are a strength

7th best rush D in the league is not a strength? I guess top 5 would be better.

Grant all day long into next week then when the following week comes he is my pick then too.

I meant Harmon instead of Graham on the DTs available. Fixed
I like Grant and I will tell you why. His absolute strength is the Steelers absolute weakness. He is a top shelf run defender. And he is athletic enough to chase down plays and still has some pass rush ability. So for me he eliminates the team’s greatest weakness and his floor again for me is pretty high. Like a day one starter. You can’t have teams running to daylight like they did last year it was highly embarrassing.

For me if he is there I don’t blink I run to the podium. Not like I did when they drafted TJ Watt but more along the lines when I see a player and think yeah he won’t be a disappointment and won’t bust out . Players that effort level meets talent.

He is one of those guys.

4.95 dash with +330 pounds, the guy is a wrecking ball

Almost forgot to touch on Harmon some will like him better. More of a well rounded player and I would understand if they did. If you draft either player mentioned I don’t think the Steelers lose sleep. If you are looking for the player with more pass rush ability a higher ceiling there it is Harmon.

I have been on the Harmon like for awhile so I tend to forget about him sometimes because with his pass rush ability I think he is off the board by 21.

So you can run up to the podium for either player depending what you are looking for.

I just so happen to like Grant..

I think I read he was heavier and also recently lost weight so I think the guy is just dialed in and focused. I like his want to. Not that there is anything wrong with Harmon’s engine there isn’t.

I think Larry just is declining my unproven take.

The LS10 will be there and ready. It will be infinitely faster than any man run or even Superman ( I’m talking the real deal Superman, not that talking head Supe that resides here and plays with jitter (shitz, did I say that out loud?))

Salute the nation

I will say one more thing when comparing the players and the scheme the horrific scheme that the Steelers run.

With the Steelers scheme you need two guys one that can consistently get to the QB and one that can not only hold his own against the run but excel at stopping it. I think Harmon is better for say an Eagles high pressure scheme. He would be great there.

But for a lousy Steelers scheme that has to be able to stop the run, Grant is a round object that easily fits in the round hole.

Harmon might help you contain the run, Grant will stop it.

So you can see scheme matters and while the Steelers trot out their dubious scheme Grant would fit in it like a glove.

The biggest issue for this franchise was a lack of quality depth on the defense. I think that’s one huge reason they lost the last five games. Double edge sword here boys. You have to have an efficient offense to not over burden your defense like we’ve been doing the last several seasons.
The defense always starts off the season with a bang but fades in the later part of the season do to being worn down. They’re on the field too much because the offense stinks.
So for me this off season has to be dealt with two fold. Draft your WR in the first round and also sign a quality WR in FA.
Draft your DL in the second round and again in third round. Deep draft for good DL.
Sign a quality CB in FA. Sign a quality DL in FA.
Must have good depth on DL so same thing doesn’t happen this year with defense running out of gas.
Offense must be more aggressive and utilize the entire field especially with the new WRs on board.
Allow the OC to call his offense and Tomlin to stop meddling in the offense. He’s not good at it and it’s been proven time and time again.
He’ll run the defense so with the added quality depth and a hopefully better offense, just maybe they can find the recipe to succeed.
Re-sign Justin please!
