There's absolutely no way he survives this season with NYJ

LeBeau probably shouldn't survive this season as we are going on the 3rd year we have been painfully incapable of generating sacks or turnovers and generally being a complete sieve on the defensive side of the ball. Plus he's ******* 77. He's not going to change anything he's been doing.

This is a great opportunity to make a change to a guy who is clearly a more-than-competent DC, would bring that intensity the guys have been lacking on that side of the ball, and a different look/approach than the same tired defense we've been trotting out for what seems like centuries now.

Thoughts?

I think he would fit in with the Steelers as a DC very well. I doubt it happens this offseason. I doubt any scheme would fix the gaping holes in our defense right now.

I'm not saying it's my first choice, but I do think if the Rooney's DO WANT to house clean, then the option does exist to promote Mike Munchak to head coach and he could possibly hire someone like Rex Ryan to be defensive coordinator.

Munchak would primarily be part of the offensive game plans and having a very independent DC like Ryan could work.

Again, if I was interviewing everyone after this season I would interview Munchak. He's not my first choice, but I would listen to the guy. And if I went with him and he wanted Rex Ryan, I would probably let him fill his staff how he wants.

let's hope the rooney listen to you

Do you realize Munchak lost TWICE as many games as he won as a head coach ? If im owner/gm Munchak aint gettin **** above a coordinator position. I see no worth or value in hiring a coach with that abysmal of a coaching record. You fire to IMPROVE, not to go parallel or downward. Thats what Chicago did (when it dumped Lovie for Trestman)

No chance the Steelers get Rex Ryan. There are rumblings he is going to go into TV if he gets canned and he is bound to make a ton of money from some network.

Munch had a poor record at Tennessee, put another way the arrow was pointing downward, however there was a study a couple years ago that the best HC's were guys who had been HC's, got fired, went back to being coordinators for a while, then became a HC for a second time.
You know what that means.
THE TODDSTER!!!!!
:p

Meh, Rex is a name guy and would want more money than the Steelers will pay.

Ryan has as much chance landing a job here as the Steelers winning out their remaining games and sailing through the PO. He is not a Steeler-type coach. Keep holding your breath, Mr. Blue.

There are two questions here really:

1. Do I think Tomlin (if he keeps his job, which he will) would hire Rex Ryan to be our next DC?

The answer to that is no. I see no chance of that happening. Tomlin is either going to go to Butler next (if he believes in the 3-4 defense) or given such control of the situation that he could/might go to a 4-3 and bring in a whole new guy in.

2. Do I think if Tomlin gets fired (and Colbert) and a new offensive minded coach is hired could Rex Ryan be brought in?

Yes. It's certainly not what I would bet on, but it could happen.

I wonder if we are at a point with Tomlin that we just either go all-in with him and let him sink or swim. Colbert is already his yes-man. He's as spineless as a wet fish. So if Tomlin throws up a stink because he's not getting an extension or blames the 3-4 defense/an exiting Lebeau/Butler and says there have been clashes in the coaches room contributing to our defensive decline, maybe laissez faire Art Rooney II says "go ahead and do what you want" and Tomlin finally goes back to his 4-3 roots for one last gasp at rekindling the defense and turnovers around here.

Obviously I wouldn't agree with that course of action, but Tomlin and I haven't seen eye-to-eye much lately so nothing would surprise me.

Whatever scenario it needs to be one where Tomlin exits stage left.

This team needs a new philosophy a new plan. The old one will get you no better than 8 and 8 or 9 and 7 at best.

Tomlin will not be fired at seasons end..........personally i believe if we miss the playoffs this season, give him one last season in 2015.

Defense is automatically gonna give us 4 losses in a year.....a couple turnover prone contests from our QB is gonna cost us another couple. We'll never be a 12-4 11-5 team unless we improve defensively and then we start executing consistently on offense. We're a half way up/down team right now. But next year, i HAVE to see improvement else DEMOLITION PHASE !!!

Agreeance with that. Tomlin and Colbert both need to exit. Mr. Dick L. can leave on either side. As far as Sexy Rexy, I'd take him as a DC, but nothing ,more.

Salute the nation

The Steelers problem on defense is more about personnel. Look at their recent signings and high draft picks on defense and how little productivity they are getting from them.

Someone else needs to be making the defensive personnel decisions.

Ryan will not even be considered! John Mitchell who is the assistant head coach and defensive lineman coach will no doubt be moved to the defensive coordinator position if Lebeau is gone. He's been here for ages and knows the 3-4 scheme better than anyone except Lebeau.........

agree 100%. not saying jones isn't going to work out and that shazier isn't going to be a stud. but they just don't fit into a DL. defense My bud and I were so happy when cj mosley was still there at 15.I thought he would have been a perfect fit. and of course living here in ravensland I get to here everyday about how he will probably be DROY. that being said I realize I am just a geek of a fan and the powers that be really know much much more than I do. again my fear is getting rid of tomlin only to get someone worse.

Ryan has no chance to be in the burgh.

Rex and his fat *** brother Rob come from a contaminated gene pool. Buddy Ryan was a certified nutcase and so are they.

this is exactly my fear. replace tomlin with someone like that. I would rather have tomlin

Ryan is like five times the coach that Tomlin is.

People rip on Roethlisberger, but without him, Tomlin would very well be begging for money on a street somewhere.

Rex Ryan reached consecutive AFC title games with Mark Sanchez as his QB. That makes reaching two AFC title games with Kordell Stewart seem like an easy task.

and lost both. one to tomlin and what has he done since? once the rah rah wears off you have to coach. and he hasn't.

call me crazy but if you put the hate beside (if we can_) the best combo could be jim harbaugh at hc and rex at dc
