Yeah I don't get it. There's a bizarre rule in high school football that a missed FG (it may have to reach the end zone) results in a touchback. I saw a team attempt one from about 53 yards and it landed a yard deep. The opponent got it on the 20. Dumbest rule I've ever seen.
 
Michigan beat Ohio state to ensure its place in the playoffs… now every single non Michigan fan is going to hope they lose the very first playoff game by double digits so Harbaugh gets the ending he truly deserves.

College has some nuances if you’re accustomed to the nfl
 
The Alabama QB had to run that. No awareness of what was going on, but he had a lot of empty space and a blocker in front of him. Would've been fourth and manageable.

In both the NFL and college, if a ball touches a player from the receiving team, but tgey dont fully posess it, it is a “ muff”

Then it can be recovered but not advanced..

I honestly don’t know the history behind that particular rule, but typically the dumbest football rules come from some grievous injury or exploit.

Someone probably tried to line drive a punt at someone’s face or something.. idk…
