What the Hell?? Osweiler trade

we could trade them Landry for Osweiller.

Sounds like they might just cut him

Since the Browns are already paying his salary for the year, we get him for free?

Vet minimum I guess - how much is Landry making?

So they cut Osweiler and take a cap hit for it?

just the $16M

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Browns are considering releasing Brock Osweiler.

This report comes just 20 minutes after the Browns acquired Osweiler from Houston in a bombshell trade nobody saw coming. It looks like there's a good chance Osweiler will never play a down for Cleveland as the Browns will simply absorb his $16 million salary and move on.

Cleveland has all the cap space in the world so the $16 million hit isn't a big deterrent.

From what I understand, the #Browns are weighing simply releasing Brock Osweiler after trading for him. NBA style

ESPN's Adam Schefter reports teams are already reaching out to the Browns about Brock Osweiler.

This sounds like the Browns leaking a report in an attempt to drum up some interest, but it shows the focus of their trade was not the quarterback. The Browns essentially spent cap space to acquire a second-round pick, and, if this report is true, they might end up not even having to pay all of his $16 million salary.

CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora reports they are looking to trade Brock and a late-round pick for a 2018 third-rounder and they are willing to eat some of his salary.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Browns plan to cut Osweiler if they cannot find any takers, which seems like the most likely outcome. Still, this was a great trade for Cleveland.

It's still a dumb move IMHO. You pay $16MM for nothing. You let Terrelle Pryor walk when you have a very young group of WR's who IMO are nothing special.....Ooooh they got Kenny Britt....Yay! Clowns are Super Bowl bound!

No...they paid $16 million for a 2nd round pick lol. I think they were on the verge of getting punished for NOT using enough cap space.

They didn't get "nothing" for it

They have two 1st rd picks and two 2nds this year and THREE 2nds next year - in case you haven't noticed - they are rebuilding again.

They were never going to the SB.

and THEY HAVE OVER $100M in CAP SPACE!

For the Browns, the trade was about acquiring the Texans' second-round pick in 2018. With surplus cap space, the Browns could afford to eat Osweiler's $16 million salary for 2017 even if he doesn't play. They also could try to turn around and deal Osweiler again or even release him outright.

It's NOT a dumb move.
Remember, all teams have a salary floor they must adhere to just like a salary cap every year.
The Browns have/had 100 million dollars in cap space to spend this year.
16 million is what, 1/7 of that?
They get a 6th this year and a 2nd next year, and potentially have trade bait for more pics now.
Even if they aren't able to trade him, they can cut him. They're only on the hook for 16 million this year in a worst case scenario.
Browns MAY actually be thinking for once.

Browns gonna trade for Jimmy G

If the Browns are such suckers to offer the 12th overall and a 2nd round pick for this nobody who's only played 3 games, can't we just offer Landry for only their first rounder?

I really hate how ****** teams are always giving picks away to the Pats for unproven or overrated players.Just one more thing about the Pats that pisses me off.

Browns to try to trade for Garoppolo

After the Brock Osweiler trade, Cleveland is armed with two 2017 first-round picks and two 2017 second-round picks, and a whopping three second-round picks in 2018.

The Plain Dealer believes New England is asking for the No. 1 pick in this year's draft, while Cleveland is willing to offer the No. 12 pick, but perhaps not No. 1 overall. Either way, the Browns are armed to "blow the Patriots' socks off," and have not giving up on trying to acquire Jimmy G.

If they were smart they would let it ride. Don't trade for jimmy. But it is the browns

I cant think of what sense it makes to just release him. They can keep him on the roster for no extra dollars than if they cut him. Unless they have trouble cutting down to 53, I'd keep him on the roster as trade bait if anyone wants a QB THAT bad.

I can totally see the P*ts giving the Stains 2 Mill for Osweiler AND the Stains 1st for Jimmy G. That way the cheaters get a backup QB, which they'll somehow turn into the 2nd coming of freaking Christ for virtually nothing, they'll get a 1st overall after winning the SB, They'll somehow finagle it so they keep their 32nd and trade up in some weird P*ts alternate universe and the Browns will find out that Garrapolo sucks.

And their 12 pick will destroy his ankle walking up to the podium and never play a down.

That sounds about right.

I think is the first smart move the browns make in years, of course they'll **** it up later

They can cut him, take a 16 million cap hit, and sign someone better. This might just be away to close the gap on their cap-min spending. They could keep him too, maybe he plays better, who knows.

if he plays well they might have found their QB, if they don't want to keep him they'll get a nice compensation the following season. Win-Win

Good Lord that's a nightmare scenario...the Pats with Myles Garrett in the draft and Stephon Gilmore in Free Agency.

room has to be going to Houston. team will be legit!

Why on earth wouldn't Cleveland keep Os at least until they land Jimmy G? They have nothing now. The worst Os can do is suck, just like any other qb they might bring in.

Cut em all

Browns to release Robert Griffin III

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Browns will release Robert Griffin III.

The Browns traded for Brock Osweiler on Thursday, but they aren't expected to keep him. Regardless, Cleveland is heading in a new direction at quarterback and it doesn't look like Griffin III is part of the plan. The Browns could broker a deal with New England for Jimmy Garoppolo or wait until the draft to address their need at quarterback.

We should have traded them Landry

Browns can't even commit to a stopgap quarterback.
