Ben is no longer mobile and can't beat the blintz or extend plague the way he used to. He overthrows the deep ball too.

Harris isn't gong to get you too many 20+ yard runs. He just isn't that type of back. I'm am staring to doubt this pick being a good one. He look average to me, meanwhile Conner isn't doing that bad in Arizona.

None of our WR's or TE' are getting the job done outside of a few flashes to Claypool and Johnson. They are mostly short receivers.

Our OL remains too flag prone and generally gets beat on medium to long developing plays On run downs there isn't any push.

And the man calling the plays for the offense leaves a lot to be desired.

In short lots of changes are needed. It a good thing TJ Watt is making plays. awe typically score 21 points or less, that not going to win you any games, minus a blocked punt or playing a backup QB.

Ben has also been ******* perfect of some deep throws. He has put other balls up for the WR to make a play on and beat the DB and they failed.

against Denver they had 3 big plays over the middle, two short routes to WR who were able to pick up yards after the catch and a TD to Claypool

Najee is hampered by ****** OL play. They were a bit better the last two games, but still have a lot of room to improve. Ben is a bit slower but even with he does escape the blitz the WR are not breaking to open spots like Brown, Miller, Ward would do for him That needs to be taught to them

DJ has been really good Claypool is spotty, Freiermuth needs more targets and Washington needs to see more snaps

For the season no he has not. He's rated 30th out of 32 in yards throw / passing yards. There is nothing to say there and many of his deep balls are overthrown. I see
Claypool jumping for the ball to often. Harris isn't a bust. He's no Derick Henry either. And he isn't fast. Boy we need a good speed back. Saying Washington and Muth need to see ball more is junk, neither are difference makers. At the expense of whom Johnson and Claypool?

He doesn't go deep often, but he has made several plays deep. He missed a couple to JuJu in the same game which must be the only game you have watched

Najee is 6 games into his career and no one knows what he will be like yet. When he has holes he makes yards, hell he makes yards with no hole but a lot of times that is just to get back to the LOS

if you don't think Freiermuth needs to see more targets you haven't watched any games. He has great hands and runs hard when he gets the ball in his hands

There are just no explosive playmakers on the offense right now. Ben just isn't accurate enough downfield and when he is, guys aren't making the plays. It is what it is, but based on what we saw last year and so far this year, this is about what was to be expected with this offense.

He's bottom of the barrel in the NFL on 20+ play and you know it. Sure all QB's make plays deep. Muth can catch the ball but but he's not a big play threat . Sure he ran hard with the ball in his hands but he's not the type to break tackles. Look at his years after contact. He's a 3rd option on this team or 4th behind Harris.

who is He? **** stats. Wins are what matters, as your favorite coach says "style points don't matter"

How many TEs are big play threats? Unless you count big 3rd down catches to move the chains or a big target in the red zone (which Muth can be) I want my TE to play like Heath Miller did....and Muth does that

What a surprise cooch makes a thread to diss a player. Wow you mean Ben has struggled ? No ****. I for one hope he doesn't extend the plague that sounds deadly.

There are a lot of "HOLES" in the OP's post and counter post(s). He is seeing what he wants to see so he can say he is right. The reality is this team has been steadily getting better. When you have young players / rookies / etc...... it takes game experience to get things going. GAME six and we are getting better along with the bye, healthier.

**** the nay-sayers and YEA the 1/2 full glass !!!

There really aren't. The offense is still pretty bad.

I agree as a whole season but Look back at last couple games.......... things are getting better. TEAMS are a work in progress and I think at one time we were #32 on that list now we are moveing up. WE will not be the same team we were at the start of the season. Will we get to world beaters....... doubtful due to the young OL but they are progressing and next year they will be even better.

Still a YEA to the 1/2 glass full.

not sure how this applies to DIC's post. He clearly referred to the last two games where they looked better than earlier this season

are they a high powered offense...hell no, but stats don't tell the whole story

They've made some improvements over the past couple of games, but they're still a bottom tier offense. The only teams scoring fewer than 20 ppg are Pittsburgh, Jacksonville, Detroit, Miami, Chicago, Houston, & New York Jets. All of these teams are in third or fourth place.

and the last two games they are averaging 25 points per game....baby steps.

What they have been missing is steady OLine play and we all knew this was going to happen (if you didnt see it coming by a mile I dont know of what to tell you), be it due to lack of high draft round investment, lack of FA investment or bad luck with injuries (DeCastro and Banner).

The longer this group play together the better they'll show, which will improve the running game and then open up the passing game and the whole playbook by extension.

Add a lot of drops in the first couple of games and there was no real chance for success in that side of the field.

Coach, you shouldn't post when you're drunk. Wow...that was hard to read.

Anyone who really understands football knows that an offense starts with the line. PERIOD. RB's can't run, QB's have no time to throw and worse yet, sacks and hits to the QB makes it tough for a QB Mentally and obviously, physically. The Steeler's offensive line is inexperienced and started off very disparate as a unit which is very unfortunate being Ben's swan song season.

1. Does Ben have time to throw?
2. Is Ben getting beat up and working through numerous injuries?
3. Does Najee have clear lanes to reach the second level?

 Geee... I wonder why the play calling is to throw short passes? Hmmm....I wonder why Ben is missing deep balls...could it be his mechanics are FUBAR due to injuries (Hips are important)?....I wonder why defenses are loading the box making it almost impossible to run the ball?

And lets not even get into why the WR's aren't boxing out and contesting balls aggressively or they and Tight Ends are dropping balls all too often. Someone drag the ******* jugs machine out of the shed please!!

But the Steeler's offense is getting better week to week and you want to know why? 🤫 The offensive line is beginning to gel and gain experience. Slowly, but surely.

So clean up all of those Busch lite can's and do yourself a favor Coach, grab some coffee and sober up.

What I don't understand about stuff like this is that for the first 3 years, Derrick Henry wasn't the Derrick Henry we see now. So to say Harris is no Derrick Henry...who the heck knows?

Continous evolution !!

Our offensive line's developement will bring a full Najee Harris out to bloom.

It's easy to point to this player or that player. It's pointless, but it doesn't stop anyone from doing it. That said, I think what this offense is missing the most is some fresh ideas. The offense is running the same basic plays it's been running since Ben got injured. Short, quick passes and slow developing runs out of the shotgun. The most innovative thing that has been added is motion, and it has helped very little.

I think there needs to be an OC hired from outside the organization. Same with even the defense. If the scheme doesn't change, it doesn't matter who is calling the plays, does it? If the team keeps doing the same things game to game, year to year, how hard is it to dig up film that finds tells and tendencies? I don't believe the offense struggles because there isn't enough talent. I think it struggles because the scheme is stale and utterly predictable more than anything.

I've said it in another thread but Canada isn't the issue. I've followed his career and when he's allowed to do his "thing" he's an outstanding offensive mind. What's holding him back in my opinion is firstly, Ben...you can't install a brand new offense with a QB in his last year. Secondly, the inexperience and lack of cohesiveness of the Offensive line really eliminates much of the playbook, specifically with longer developing route trees and the fact that Defenses stack the box limits the running plays.

Maybe Canada is better suited in the College ranks, but I'm not ready to write him off just yet. When Ben retires and IF Mike Tomlin allows Matt to install HIS offensive playbook (Based on their decision for Ben's replacement) I'd like to see what he's able to bring to the table in the NFL.

Claypool, 6'4"

mostly short

Great Post.

It all starts in the trenches and our OL is developing but yet still a weak link, patience will help. The DL is also hurting thus the weak rush stopage. Both will have gotten a boost from this bye week rest so we will find out Sunday on the direction the arrow is pointing.
