What's Up With Joey Jr?

Who would you put it front of Tomlin? Since I asked this, please understand where I am coming from. First, we are hyper focused on the Steelers, so we see every flaw. We only look at other coaches generally. We don't necessarily see their flaws or at least as glaringly as we do Tomlin. Outsider of Any Reid right now, at this moment, I bet every fan base has issues with their coach. I'm sure even in NE they do with the great cheater.

Secondly, I think all coaches get way more credit than they deserve. Coaches win because of the talent they have, you aren't winning anything without talent. It's the players. Chuck Noll said that all the time. Then it becomes hoping the talent, if you have it, is mature enough to focus for a year to win it all. I really think it is more about that than x's and o's and all that at the end of the day.

I don't put any stock in where they rank coaches. Seems to be a colossal waste of time. I am indifferent if they rank Tomlin 2nd or 32nd. I don't think Tomlin is appreciably better than let's say Kevin Stefanski or something, nor is he worse. They are just coaches, man. The players play.

My comment was more in reference to the talking heads and that “never a losing season” agenda they push so much, NOT about ranking head coaches.

Salute the nation

Will Levis just signed so my guess is JP2 is not far behind. Levis got 60% of his contract guaranteed. My guess is the Steelers fold and do 70% or 75%. Then the league and union better get something in writing for what the precedent is for the future. If a team forfeits a pick then does that bring the first pick in the next round up a round or does that just skip the pick and everything else stays the same.

Will you be saying that after he signs his contract? It's not like he's going to hold out and miss games.
I was aware he was available during the draft, I wanted the Steelers to trade the pick then, still wish they would have. Never considered the 1.32 vs 2.01 contract issue. I’m a Penn State fan and obviously hope he pans out, but would’ve traded the pick.

Out of curiosity, was your target if they traded?

Wasn’t about a specific target, it was about draft capital. There were many good players available.
The trade on the board was probably very similar to what the Cardinals received.
Round 2 #41
Round 3 #72
2024 Round 3

A lot hinges on where that 2024 3rd round pick ends up being. But worst case scenario the Titans received about 75 points or mid 4th round additional compensation vs the trade value chart. My guess is the Steelers might have been able to cut off a little more and get a 6th or 7th round pick but nothing more.

In my opinion I would have taken a deal like that. Don't listen to the media and make no mistake we are a rebuilding and transitioning team. The more picks the better. I would have held to my guns and picked up that extra 6th which would have been pretty fair for the extra slot up. Yes, might have lost out on JP2. But Brian Branch would have been there at #41. And we could have grabbed Trenton Simpson, YaYa Diaby or Riley Moss at #72.

The draft is a crapshoot but I do know the more rolls you get the better your chances at hitting. I hope JP2 gets into camp and is lights out and makes us all forget his holdout and about the Titans trade.

Eh, when it comes down to it, good players are better than more draft picks. If you like JPJ and believe he can be a starter, I don't see a reason to trade down just to pick up some middle round selections. Porter plays a premium position and it's tough to pass those types of guys up if you believe they can be good players in the NFL.

I was hoping for a trade....but would of gladly accepted Brian Branch or Michael Mayer with that pick.

Think Porter is slightly overrated.....especially within the Steeler offices, for obvious reasons....

With that said....I was wrong about Highsmith...

I would have to disagree with this cause there are talented teams that lose cause of the coach. Therefore the coach does deserve credit. Can't go both ways ya know. Every team is talented (yes some are staked more than others) but this is the NFL every team has a lot of talent. Its the culture and the coaching everything else that brings it all together. It is why we have seen super teams in every league fail cause Talent alone will not win. There has to be chemistry and someone and something to bring it all together. Football is probably the be all end all of proving that it is a team sport all the way around. The teams that win have the all of it. The talent, the structure, the culture, a lot of luck and the over all cohesion that brings everything together.

Coaches are just as important. But just like the player has to have the right team and system to succeed the same goes for the coach. put a great coach with a talented team with a terrible owner and GM and they will continually fail (example the cowboys).

Bottom line is its all important.

Here's the $64,000 question. Who thinks JP2 is in camp and on time? I personally believe he will be. He will hold out until the last minute today or tomorrow morning and report on time. There's really not much he can gain by holding out in camp. And by holding out the Steelers could flip the script and yank his current offer and start decreasing guarantees daily. I would. The longer her holds out the less valuable he is imo. What is he going to do? Not sign and go skip a year and then get drafted in round 5 next year.

probably seem reason will levis and 2-3 others 31-36 havent signed
Makes sense. Good point.

Why Bermuda couldn't understand this is beyond me.

Middle round picks? Based on FFL’s post, it could have easily been a later 2nd plus a 3rd. There were a handful of CBs that went later in the second round that likely would have been taken by the Steelers had they traded down. It’ll be interesting to see how they turn out vs. Porter.

To be fair I for got to include the fact it was a swap of 2nd's and 3rds this year and then additionally next years 3rd. All together 765 points for Titan and 720 points for Cards PLUS 2024 3rd round pick. The last pick in the 3rd round is worth 120. So that is where I get the trade value being at least 75 points in the Cards favor. If the 3rd ends up (likely) being a top 10 pick could push the trade value over to the 175+ mark. Which would be phenomenal trade equity.

Yep. I figured he would sign right before the wire. I get his situation is unique and he was trying to get what he deemed fair. I am just glad he will be in camp tomorrow and we can all see how he progresses this season.

A little deadline pressure usually brings sides together to meet in the middle which is always the right thing. Wasn't really concerned but glad it's done.

Not that it matters but sounds like the Steelers gave him top of second round money and guarantees. Over 9 million in 4 years first three seasons guarenteed. 3.9 upfront signing.

A later second, so you downgrade your early second-round pick and a third-rounder is a middle round selection. There will be other good cornerbacks from this draft, but Porter had a few things the Steelers liked: size, wingspan, bloodlines.
