Whats your biggest Steelers Free Agency surprise thus far

Again, not free agency. But I am very surprised they did not make more asst Coaching changes
Are/were you really.....surprised? Maybe you were hopeful.....but not really surprised. No? 🤔🤪

Fields chose to NOT be here. It’s not even known if he gave the Steelers a chance to counter offer. My first choice was to get Fields back on a 2-3yr deal.

Russ Wilson was not getting a chance to come back here. Many sources spoke of how much the inside brass FO disliked him. DK Sports was one for an example. They never made him an offer and never pursued him at all. Contrary to what the talking heads claimed.

A-Rod was targeted. They even tried to make his facility visit secret, until it got out. Tomlin claims he doesn’t know when rogers will make his decision, but my suspicion is it will coincide with his buddy Pat McAfee April 9th Pittsburgh Raw show.

Rudolf is the only bright spot to this point of QB room. Personally, I advocated this as a good signing. I think The big picture is Rudy can give us what we need and feels like we are making a move towards future building. An excellent back up when needed.

A QB not yet on the roster, via a draft pick. That draft pick will hing place as wether or not Roger’s is on the roster at that time.

At the owners meetings, Tomlin stated that the roster is being built right up to the start of training camp (the question was in relations to current QB situation). I took it to mean he would wait to hear about his boy rogers. He has also said they can start Rudy.

I can’t see anything that states a QB move of pure success fior this season. Regardless of blame, this looks real amateurish and laugh-able on the Steelers. I think every team in the NFL is giving us the side eye snicker.

Side BooB is A-ok, side eye snicker is NOT.

Salute the nation
Fields from what I have tead was going to take less than what he got from the Jets. He simply wanted to be told he was the starter. Tomlin wouldn't do that. Tomlin sights were on Rodgers.

With all of the fibs Tomlin has told players in the past about playing time and starting....surprised that he was upfront with Fields this time. Could have told him....yep...you are our starter. Then pursued Rodgers. I mean.....I was told numerous times on here that no ones job is truly guaranteed.

Our QB room would not have looked that bad with Rodgers and Fields. 🤔

If by some act of God, Pgh manages to win a playoff game, don't yea think Deuce and Clown-lin will then act like things are going so great, there is no need to make any changes with the staff? Of course, that's a pretty big "IF" but you never know....I can just see them acting all fine in their fineries. Clown-lin will think he is king.

Biggest surprise to date........that Rudy just might be our starting QB on opening day......that they lost out on Fields because of their infatuation on Rodgers on a one year deal(I read that might be the sticking point for Rodgers signing). Last season it was a WR that bitched us around.....this season it is a QB. What is coming for us next offseason?
I don't think we have any evidence that these two things are related.

It's not like last year when we lost Kenny because we brought in Wilson.

Sounds like we made a real play for Fields. But got outbid. Sounds like the Jets gave him a take it or leave it kind of thing where he didn't have the opportunity to shop the contract in a bidding war. And given how we know the Steelers operate, I think it's very unlikely that we'd give him $30MM guaranteed for what's essentially a one year deal (cut if he sucks, extend if he's good).

A 42 y/o Rogers, a young, still-unproven Fields....I don't know. Things (QB position) could be brighter. Add in a befuddled, mostly clueless Clown-lin trying clumsily to run an offense....running the vast majority of every 1st and 2nd down...throwing behind the LOS on 3rd....or to the sideline only....dear Jebus we're gonna have another year of this? And he's the head chief and bottle washer? In charge of a $4-5 billion outfit? Did you read his quotes lately? Hardly confidence-boosting in nature. "We are doing our due diligence on the QB position????" Oh, it oozes with confidence: Clown-lin and the QB spot. Maybe he can go back to his daily morning meetings with the QB like with Pickett, that worked out so well.....

STFU and try a new schtick. this dead horse has been beat to death.

I think Art II had a # in mind that he would pay and Fields went above it, end of story, cheap Art has his limits of what he would pay him. I think Fields will perform so so and the Jets will still be looking for a QB at season's end.

Nope. It has been reported that Fields wanted to be guaranteed the starting job. Tomlin wouldn't do that. Then it was been reported that Tomlin wanted Rogers from the get go of FA. Doesn't take much to connect the dots.

Does anyone know ARs head size by chance?
Well based on his height, that was measured at 74" at the combine, combined with his hand size of 10.13" (eat that Pickett!!!), adjusting for his arm length of 32.25", subtract his BMI of 29, now add back in his 40 time of 4.75, and you get....

no I don't know his head size.

or, if you were paying attention, we were somewhat interested in bringing Justin back, but that was dependent on price - as well as Justin wanting to come back. Remember, he did fairly well then rode the pine the rest of the season while Russ Russed up. So, when the Jets position opened, and Fields could play with his college buddy and guaranteed to start... made sense for the young man. Obviously the price wasn't something we couldn't have overcome.

but, we will get a comp pick for him next season. Just as we will for Russ.

sometimes you have to look past the current tree to see the rest of the forest.

In our offense. With the scheme we have....there is no such thing as a franchise QB. QBs come here to die.
That’s what is confusing.
So Pickett had potential to be a franchise QB, Mason as well?

The consensus here is that they both s u ck, and are not franchise QB’s.

Wait, but it’s been said that Tomlin isn’t capable or refuses to develop QB’s….and/or the scheme.

Most everyone here is steadfast on both counts but it can’t be both.

On a side note, Trubisky was already dead before coming here, and considering Wilson’s awful play in Denver so was he.
I feel Fields destiny is inconclusive. That said, he isn’t helping himself by going to play for a third consecutive lousy team.

But that third team has a brand new head coach and GM.

between Trubisky, Russ, Fields and Rudolph, Fields gives you the best chance to win going forward, IMO.

Pickett was not and will not be a franchise QB. He had the potential to be more than he was though…that is where Tomlin’s pathetic scheme factors in and his lack of development. Ya put a guy with a ceiling of say 20-25th best starter in the league in the 30th-32nd best offensive scheme and ya get KFP results. Ya get 13TDs and 13 INTs in 2 years as a starter. In a better scheme like Reid’s ya likely get something more like 24-12 in those same 24 starts.

Both KFP being mid and Tomlin’s scheme sucking are definitely not mutually exclusive.

I think Rudolph will pull a rich gannon. I dont think rogers finishes the year. Rudolph comes in and plays well. Tomlinship. Maybe a 1st round win.
