Dallas released DT Dontari Poe

https://www.usatoday.com/story/spor...ase-weight-production-jerry-jones/6066170002/

The Dallas Cowboys' release of defensive tackle Dontari Poe on Wednesday was due to his weight and lack of production, team owner Jerry Jones told ESPN.

The eternally open-door Cowboys defense currently ranks 27th in yards allowed per game (408.1) and last in the league in points allowed per game (34.7). That prompted some roster changes this week. Defensive end Everson Griffen was traded to the Detroit Lions on Tuesday. Then on Wednesday, the Cowboys released Poe and defensive back Daryl Worley.

"When you're 30 pounds overweight and you're not doing anything about what's keeping you from performing well on the field, there is no reason to get into the other stuff," Jones told ESPN.

According to ESPN, the "other stuff" Jones was referring to is Poe being the only Cowboys player to protest during the national anthem. Jones had been among the strongest voices in the NFL opposing the form of peaceful protest in its early days. He had insisted players stand at attention. Jones softened his tone heading into the 2020 season.

Why, he doesn't work for UBER ?

Just mentioned this in the other thread Supe. He's super athletic for his size and a 2x pro bowler. I'd PS him for leage minimum incase something happened to Alualu.

I don’t for one second believe that kneeling despite the club basically banning it had nothing to do with control freak JJ cutting poe... he is out of shape like Hampton was... tell him the qb has a cheeseburger in his pants and he will maul the whole oline to get to him...

The way this team loves tanks at NT, I'm surprised there isn't more outcry for Poe. Dude is a LOAD!

Putting that talent between Tuitt and Heyward, and he will produce very well.

Also Coolie, I do think it's time for a draft lottery, especially with expanding the playoffs so nearly 1/2 the league is in the playoffs.

cope i agree, he makes us reflect back on the days of big snack.

Middle clog for sure.

But we had another big load on the team that we put on the PS, and was taken by the bears,,, shade tree,, blanking on name.

ANYWAY, the knock on him (at least what i understood) was his lack of lateral flow. Wouldnt poe with an extra 30 have the same problems? I havent watched his game over the years.

just a point of conversation

Big Dan McCullers! Nearly on the team for 7 years!

I don't think we ask Alualu to move laterally. Poe would be a people eater and when you already have to double Tuitt/Heyward/Watt/Dupree, it could open another dynamic for our passrush.

i am bad with names.. I thought of it later but in middle of writing that, dikdnt want to go google it.

ok,, but i thought dan was able to do this. i guess im wrong.

I think it would come down to the individual interview and Poe's willingness to actually work out to football shape? How long would that take, 30lbs transforming from fat to 70% muscle could take a month / 6-weeks. You'd actually be getting a REAL player for about 4 weeks of the season. Might be worth it and as a BONUS, Poe could call Jerry up and ask him if he seen him liftin g the lombardy..........................

For such a big man, Dan was easily blocked. And, his height made it hard for him to get low (gain leverage) and get any push into the backfield. I don't know if he was physically unable to get lower, failed to work on his technique or what, but he just wasn't as dominant at the point as you'd think someone his size should be.

tyson is going a top notch job and we con rotate Buggs and Wormley thats enough bulk what we need is a LB trade for avery Aver williamson or Hassan Reddick who can be used in a variety of ways
Spillaine might be good enough for simple dutries but vs bal, and down the road KC he will need more athlethic players next to vince in coverage

I am all for bringing in Avery that would be my phone call.

I get that the Steelers probably want to roll over as much cap as they can to fix next year’s deficit, but seriously adding a <2 million dollar player isn’t causing unrepairable damage there

I mean the steelers 3/4 has evolved from the lebeau days... we dont just ask our dl to clog up lanes... they actively rush while doing it... but Poe would be a fine goal line traditional run stuffer

The Cowboys suck and if someone isn't good enough to play for them then I don't see how they would help us.

Guys like Poe who eat themselves out of the league rarely, if ever, make it back...

Quoth the raven, "Nevermore."

Quoth the raven, "Nevermore."

**** the Ravens. With a...say it...say it loud and proud so all can hear...

That said, we do have Buggs and Davis. Both of whom are in our system and, I assume, working hard and well. I know Poe was talented coming up, but he clearly has some issues now. Do we really want to add a project when we may have guys we like?

If I am adding anywhere, it is ILB.

Poe is a disrespectful, under-producing, fat ***.....**** him If he was free I wouldn't want him on this team, sorry.

I remember when he was on a lot of SN draft picks here....glad that didn't come to fruition.

Kansas City Chiefs (2012–2016)
Atlanta Falcons (2017)
Carolina Panthers (2018–2019)
Dallas Cowboys (2020)

It would appear that Kung-fu Panda is now more Panda and less kung or fu.
Maybe next season, after he completes his abbreviated Biggest Loser season....
