Because I know I've mentioned this before, but my stepdad just turned 80, has a plethora of issues (COPD, leaky valve in his damn heart, HBP, gout etc.), doesn't do anything to help himself in the least and he's been out and about without a single care in the world, and nothing.

The cure is worse than the virus. I'll say it again. And as Steelworth said, it breaks my heart to hear personal stories like this it really does.

I talked about my annual fantasy football draft. Run by a family I met through youth football coaching. What a blessing to have met the two football brother coaches. GREAT and I mean really great people. Give you the shirt off their back types. Got to the know the whole family over the years. Another brother, two sisters (one of whom is mentally retarded). The one brother/coach played college football. Nicest guy you could meet. Then I met their mom and dad, late 70s now. NEVER missed a family event, always at their grandkids basketball and football games, dance recitals and so forth. So friendly, always smiling. They still take care of the mentally retarded daughter, who goes with them everywhere, and fist bumps me every time she sees me.

COVID hit. They haven't left the house in 7 months. They have EVERYTHING delivered. Haven't started their car once. At home with the one daughter.

The coach's wife told me at the draft, tears in her eyes....This is killing them. Literally. Their family is everything to them. And they can't see them. And then, when all of this is over, what has it done to their health? And how much have they lost they will never get back? A whole year? It's criminal and I cry for them. I fear this will kill them sooner. Living kept them going.

Few look at it through those lenses.
