The play itself was a great design. The dumbassery of it all is where they were on the field. If the play fails, you're screwed. As you saw happen. That's either a middle of the field(or more) play or a desperation play. Dumb.

That was obviously something they saw on tape... and there probably was an audible set up if they saw it

But it shouldnt be called with greater than ten yards to go and that deep in their own territory...

No, the play dictated the throw, It was the right call. It would have been a momentum change. Possibly even been an opportunity to go up 14.

Sure. You never do that on your side of the 40. There should be a stipulation even if the read is correct, and I'm sure there is. Someone over rode that stipulation. No NFL staff is this stupid or emotional...none.
