there you go thinking again!Thought I was a heretic for thinking D Johnson would be the better cut bait.
While Johnson and Claypool have had a few issues, their talent is there. With 23 catches for 225 yards & 1 TD in the first 6 games this year, i might be wrong that he will never become a good receiver, but i'll have to see a whole lot more fire under this guy's ***.

i stand by my 2nd rounder and a practice squad Mike. 2 birds w/ one stone.
I said this last year with Ben and the same goes for this year. If teams put 8 or 9 in the box, our receivers are 1 on 1. With Pickens and Claypool this year, take a quick 3-step drop and throw it down the sideline and let them go get it. Defenders will have a very hard time covering them. If they can't catch it, then at least make sure the defender doesn't get it. The outside can be good but not the short crap we always throw. Go deep and open up the field. And, the middle of the field is wide open this year and last week I think was the first time they went there even though it was only a time or two. Why is Canaduh and/or Tomlin afraid of taking deep shots down the sidelines or shots over the middle? While Johnson and Claypool have had a few issues, their talent is there.
We watch every play, every down of our Steelers. And we are all highly critical.
We don’t even notice when DeAndre Hopkins runs a wrong route or drops one, along with the hundreds of other receivers that we don’t watch. Believe me.....they do.
I said this in the last game thread, and have thought it for years. Our offense passing abilities have sucked since and even a few games before,Big Ben’s injury. Ben’s decline,Mason,Duck,Mitch and now Kenny. Even when Canada was not our coach,it has been get rid of the ball quick and short and outside. This started especially the short part with the Mason,Hodges year. And has continued to this day. It’s been all about no turnovers,no trust ,no balls as in guts.
Don’t want to turn this into a Tomlin bashing, but he has been the constant throughout this ludicrous offensive scheme.
To be honest I couldn’t believe the catches and yards generated by Johnson last year considering we never threw more than 5 yards down the field. These receivers have been lolled to sleep. They must be pissed off. If I was a WR on the Steelers with this offense scheme I would bolt as soon as I could to a more downfield friendly scheme. Personally I think the coaches scheme have cost the WR’s millions of dollars in future earnings.
When the opposing D brings everyone up to stop the run and our short passes for the last 3 years......well I just don’t get it. As well documented on here. TE middle of the field. Quick slants ,middle of the field. Running back screen, middle of the field. -15 yard quick hitter middle of the field. I just don’t get it anymore. Everything to the outside.
Rant over.
You have to ask high so when a team counters it's in line with what you believe is actually a realistic return.Just read an SI article said Steelers were looking for 2 seconds a third and a 4th. Either bullshit journalism or they aren't really interested in a trade. That's more than McCaffrey which was insane.
But high has to be in the rhelm of realistic. (Again I don't know if the article was legit). That was damn near the Ricky Williams deal. You have to ask high so when a team counters it's in line with what you believe is actually a realistic return.

Thinking about trading with Greenbay actually is like taking a 2nd rounder and making it a third as they usually draft in the late 20s. It has the same effect on the rest of the proposed haul. So maybe not as attractive as the numbers show. But high has to be in the rhelm of realistic. (Again I don't know if the article was legit). That was damn near the Ricky Williams deal.
again, AJ Brown is a couple inches smaller and a tad bit slower. His stats haven’t really been a lot better than Claypool… his upside definitely isn’t as high… he pulled in what? A first and a third? But high has to be in the rhelm of realistic. (Again I don't know if the article was legit). That was damn near the Ricky Williams deal.
Hopefully, they keep him and activate Calvin. If we know we have something in Pickens and Calvin, I can see them trading Claypool near the draft like so many teams did last year. If he plays well the remainder of the year, he could get in that 1st round category as crazy as things were last year. There is no way we are going to pay him 20+ million when they didn't do it for DJ. DJ took a relatively modest extension. But, something will happen with either DJ or Claypool this offseason if Calvin and Pickens look good or promising. They can draft another WR in the top 4 rounds to add to their stable.
yeah at the draft it gives you much more flexibility.. after the season you can decide what you need to do with the wr corps… maybe you move Claypool, maybe DJ… a lot depends if Pickens takes a step forward and Austin can actually play when the big lights are on…Hopefully, they keep him and activate Calvin. look at our oline the last several years. QBs had 2 choices, throw the ball fast or get killed. If we just invest in the trenches our passing game could improve. While Johnson and Claypool have had a few issues, their talent is there.

No they didn't give up a lot of cap space.Yes I would trade him for a 2nd round pick if we can get one. Claypool is inconstant and we have a hot rookie in Pickens and unfortunately gave a way a lot of cap space to re-sing to re-sign Johnson. What do we do pay him market value to be our 3rd recevier?
I think Green bay may be looking for a for a WR. If not a 2nd, the a 3rd and 6th will do.
I think we should be going OL, DL, and OL with our first 3 picks (in no particular order). Take a WR in Rd. 4 if we have a 4th round pick. We definitely need to fix both lines. I can see us taking another OL and DL in the first 3 rounds the following year as well. I'm tired of this team sucking where it counts most. It's been way too long since they addressed the Big Uglies with premium picks.I hope the **** it isn't round 1 or 2 (their notorious pick for WRs) as we need 1st and 2nd round talent in the "trench-warfare" department.
Salute the nation
This was basically our deep ball pass last year. Ben would take the snap and throw down field to Claypool. One on one. Claypool for the most part never came down with it. Half the time the ball would hit him in both hands. He simply was soft and the defender was able to tap his arm or create contact and the end result was an incomplete pass. Pi kens has shown more skill in the combat 50/50 pass play then what Claypool has in hos 2 plus years here. It is what it is.I said this last year with Ben and the same goes for this year. Yeah, but CMC is injury prone and has a huge contract. It’s a lot to ask for but if they weren’t looking to trade him the asking price is gonna be a lotJust read an SI article said Steelers were looking for 2 seconds a third and a 4th.
