Your Favorite Steeler Pick

I actually think he's a different style of back, more that he'll produce the way we expected Najee to. If he lives up to expectations, the Steelers will have a very good backfield.
That's what I hope. Speaking of Najee, I expect that by the start of the season he'll be the 1a with Warren being 1b and Gainwell the 3rd down back. I have a lot of hope for him to impact early.

By far, It's Undrafted Free Agent Aiden WIlliams. A zero-star recruit from Alaska who hails from Division II Minnesota-Duluth shows us all just how serious Captain Cool Shades is about providing depth to the offensive line through the draft process.

Mike ignores top Offensive line talent for almost a decade, drafts three OL in the top 2 rounds in 2023 and 2024 and I guess he believes that is enough. What a joke.
O Line with 5 and 6th round grades were going in the 3rd and 4th. It wasn't a good draft for the position and teams were reaching early. The value wasn't there. I bet that is why we got Sawyer later than he was projected. We can address depth in free agency still.

Their first three picks were all “happy picks,” Harmon and Johnson were not hard to predict when Pittsburgh approached the podium the first two days. Sawyer was a bit of a surprise, didn’t think he would be there but makes sense due to our woeful run defense and he can still get after the QB. If we do sign Watt, there’s no way they will offer Highsmith what he wants, I think Sawyer will replace him rather than Herbig.
Highsmith has three years left on his contract, so re-signing Watt has no impact on Highsmith for at least two years. I do think though, if Sawyer shows himself to be a useful rotational piece, Herbig or Highsmith could be traded at the end of the 2025 season. In 2026 Herbig will be going into his contract year, and based on performance to date he will probably be $5m+ per year to extend, so unlikely the Steelers will be able to afford to keep Highsmith, Herbig and Watt. There is also the outside possibility, given Watt's age, he may decline to the extent he will be the odd man out (or expected to take a pay cut) once it's time to renew Herbig.

I'll let you know my favourite pick in five years time. Hopefully it will be Will Howard. I suspect it is more likely to be Derrick Harmon or Kaleb Johnson.

Harmon here as well.

My favorite non-picks were Sanders and Milroe.
Didn't want either of 'em.
Agree on Milroe as well, but for a different reason. If he is ever going to become the very best player he can, the team drafting him will have to rebuild their entire system to take advantage of his skills the same way that the Ravens did. I don't trust this coaching staff to do that, and even if they do, we'd still have to hope that Milroe can excel at this level.

Better vision, too. Najee slammed into the backs of the linemen with holes available too often.

Now compare the supporting casts between last year’s Iowa and 2020 Alabama, Najee was the last guy everyone was worried about, Johnson the only guy.
One of the things I look for when I watch college RB highlights pre-draft is if these guys are running through huge holes that anyone can run through. Looks good but takes no talent. That's one of the reasons I didn't want Najee in '21. However, the opposite is why I liked the Benny Snell pick in '19 so the system isn't perfect.

OL Free Agency depth isn't all that good either. Top free agents are Cam Robinson who had a down year overall, Teven Jenkins is oft injured and unreliable, Tyron Smith is old as ****, and Mekhi Becton just spent a year moved inside so who knows if he pans out there or maybe a move to tackle would help the Steelers. It's pretty thin out there. Which goes back to my original point, MT chooses to ignore top OL talent in the draft outside of the last two years, so this is what the Steelers get. Piss the bed, sleep in it.

I'm actually really liking this draft. The Steelers got a ton of value in their picks, and they were able to fill a few needs along the way. The more I look at Howard, the more I like the kid. He is very smart both in general and in football terms. He's a leader and a winner. The knock on him is his arm strength, which is still good but not elite. He can still work on that and get better velocity through working out and mechanics. As I did for Rudolph (watched him and Mayfield play in college when I was in OKC) and Picket, I will be pulling for the kid to be our next franchise QB. He may not, but he has the smarts, the drive, and the determination to make it happen. I hope he can get enough practice reps to show something this year. GO STEELERS!!!!

my favorite pick was each of the ones the Steelers made with sanders still on the board and they left him there....fun times

Post of the “yesterday” internet !!!!!

Harmon. After Henry gashed us.....

Howard is intriguing. I don't think MT has a lotta faith in Rudy. Howard might have a shot....seems like a smart, motivated kid.

Could also use Highsmith as draft day trade up next year as well. I think they keep Herbig, youth reasoning.

Great post Aussie Steeler, appreciate yaz.

Harmon, Howard, all of them. None of them seem like wasted picks to me.

Mine was Captain Jack Sawyer. Typical of old school Steeler, reminds me some of Jack Lambert.
Very hard nose no nonsense type player that looks to be the intimidator type we need.
I like having Jack and Nicky Herbig as the backups providing solid relief for the starters.
i'd have to go with captain jack too.

ETA: i think kaleb and harmon were the best picks.
