I like Banner as a locker room guy and think he's a great fit at right tackle. I'm not sure if he's the answer at left tackle. I feel like he has a long way to go in pass protection and he's going to struggle with the speed rushers on the QB's blindside.

We need a drafted stud starter, UNLESS Banner has healed up faster speed wise than pre-injury, I think someone is smoking ganchaA.

Banner has always struggled with weight and agility. He is a 360 lb. guy who is pretty decent at drive blocking.

The thought of him trying to block Garrett one-on-one should make every Steelers fan shudder.

Are we saying that AV is for sure gone? He’s only 32. He looked bad at times this year, but that only hurts is market in other places. I don’t recall him being that bad in 2019, so is he done? It’s not like he’s got that many years in the league either.

He’s certainly a high character guy too. Is it simply a matter of money?

is he willing to come back for less than he earned last season? I don't think so

Banner will be fine. As long as Ben or whoever is our QB gets the ball out in 1.2 sec or less all will be good. The sky is the limit. Can't wait.

regarding Banner, I'd like to see him start at RT again, LT I'm not so sure he has a chance against fast bending rushers

Yep. Guys who struggle with weight are generally not quick, and are not suited to blocking a 4.58 guy tearing around the corner at 45°

Big Al is the biggest liability on the OL. And it's been more than noticeable for at least 2 years. I'm all for Banner at RT, but I'm finding a real LT between rounds 1 - 3...

NOT disagreeing or agreeing either. I think the team will ask him to lower his pay and give him the choice. He may test the market but I'm thinking he takes a pay cut and restructures over two years (my brain not working and I can't Remeber if he free agent or not).

Mark pulled that out of his ***. Tomlin could very well be setting his sights on Banner at RT. Regardless I would draft a T high.

I hope. I don't pay for The Athletic. It's basically the old Tribune Review writers, Bouchette who is getting a bit out of touch with how you need to report today, or some of the lower level writers. Nothing groundbreaking other than they collected them all in one place..

Money and age. His play has been on the decline so you don't want to invest too much.

Yes, big Al was the biggest liability in 2020 if you exclude Chuks, Pouncey, DeCastro, Feiler, and Dotson.

Assuming that’s what Tomlin said I don’t see anything about him saying his playing LT or for that matter RT. Again assuming he did say that then I think it has more to do with him coming back for another year than where he’s playing and if he even starting or not.

Banner has a chance to be a very good RT, but not sure I want him anywhere near the left side. I do think the running game would have been better with him playing in 2020, though that isn't saying much.

Obviously, it would be huge if he could emerge as a solution at one of the tackle spots, as if they can hit on a draft pick to play opposite of him, they would have the foundation for something with Dotson showing potential inside.

keep banner at RT sign Beachum for 1 or 2 years and draft in rnd 3-4 one of these guys Jackson, Iowa, Miller Stanford, Radunz North Dakota ST and let them develop and be ready to start in 2022.
Unless you somehow get Leatherwood or Darrisaw who are plug n play, still unsure Mayfield who is moving up who has great size but started at Rt at UM could quickly flip to LT. He in some mocks in a month has gone from a 78 to a projected mid 50 pick.
C Bama C trey Hill Creed Humprry trading up in rnd 2 are also all plug in play, if you draft someone like ben Clevland power OL and convert him to C for 2022 then Alex mack has to be at the top of our list, Finney could come back and do a good enough job, hopefully, whatever injury Decastro played with he is the same Rg from last year or 2 years ago.
So if we have Harris or Williams we can just smash the ball down team's throats.

Have to disagree with Leatherwood being a plug and play. There is some questions if he is a G or T. Then you have if he is better suited for the left or right side.

There were lots of questions about big al, if he were a receiver, a tight end,,, etc.. and became a OT

im not taking a tackle in this draft UNLESS he IS plug and play.

Mayfield played some LT at Michigan and absolutely mauled Chase Young in 2019. He is very fluid, good footwork, perfect frame for LT. If the Steelers were to add Mayfield to play LT, keep Banner where he belongs at RT, add a high-level interior lineman like Meinerz to play C, the offensive line would improve massively almost immediately.

One of Justin's competitors has a very nice overview of Mayfield, positives and negatives, with some cool footage:

THIS

Our OL has a very BIG need and at least one plug and play player from the draft. It would be nice to get two LT & C.

I can't disagree here, but unfortunately the current roster needs so damn much help. RB, OLB, CB, DT, ILB. Seriously, team has Alualu as a FA, Haden in his last year at a $15 million cap hit, Devin Bush returning from injury, one more year of Vince Williams, and Robert Spillane, Conner a FA.

It's a goddamn mess.

When I talked with Zach, he said he is comfortable playing LT or RT. Whatever it takes to help the team. He has the size to play LT, and he has the heart to be the best. Dude got in fights with TJ last year in camp, and he outplayed Chukes to be the starter. I really hope he stays healthy so the rest of you can see what he is capable of with his limited film.

Staying healthy will be key to whatever he plays. I think he is capable at being solid on both sides. But I would think his best position would be RT. I guess training camp will sort that out to see if I am wrong.
