So Jordan zuwaldt is placed on IR...

For the year? For a groin pull? Is this shuffle move to keep him from having to clear wavers..? I don't get it.. Wish TMC was here.

Whats to get. The Steelers like him and wanted to keep him. He was hurt and IR was the best way to keep him. By the way TMC did not like the pick.

My takeaway from his film is that he's maladroit at LB. Slow with no instinct; spent almost every play juking to try and stay with the play. I loved our draft, but I recognize Zumwaldt for what he is: a ST prospect, no more. Which is really the best-case scenario from a 7th.

I think he's been hurt too damn much to know what he can do. He was hurt as soon as Camp started, got healthy enough to get on the field for about a week it seemed like then went down again. I think he only played in the one pre season game right?

My takeaway is he's there for depth and to versatility, they must see something in him to put him on IR as opposed to waiving him injured. And he was a 6th not a 7th.

However, if they had waived him injured and he caught on with another team, we'd have a bunch of people on here clamoring that Tomlin/Colbert never gave him a chance and let another "star" drafted player get away.

This is what im getting at. This and the fact of going on IR for a groin pull.. Usually its a blown knee or something to be put on IR. Do they plan on pulling hm back off IR in late season,, using that rule they instituted last year or whenever it was.. Whether or not TMC liked the pic or not he would offer a sane and emo free description of what was going on.

No, it's the full IR. They like his potential, but need him to be healthy. He was injured quite a bit in camp and in preseason. So with IR, they can keep him without using a roster spot, without using a practice squad spot, and without exposing him to waivers of any kind.

Thanks insaniti. I guess I didn't realize that the IR can be used for a groin pull,, and there aren't more stringent rules about something like this. Im also surprised that this tactic isn't used or exploited a lot more .

I figured the Steelers liked him enough to put him on the IR. He played in a system very similar to the Steelers at UCLA and could be a special teams ace and serviceable backup. He was one of the late-round guys I was really looking forward to watching.

IR was changed to all year because teams would abuse it with minor injuries to just stash players in case they needed them later in the year.now, you can still do that, but you can't use them until the next season and you have to count them against the cap and pay them.

What's with the constant TMC dick sucking around here?
TMC was a very knowledgeable poster and frequently shared his insight and understanding of complex issues with the rest of us. He was an excellent source of cap information and how it related to the roster and talent level on the team. He also spent a great deal of time in researching draft picks and doing rankings as did two or three others on here. They did not always agree with each other but by the time they were done making their points on here the rest of us had information that was much better than the crap the talking heads spewed on a regular basis. Hope that answers your query.

.

I believe that Zumwalt could be a good player. One of the main concerns for this kid is one that is common among UCLA players... strength. He needs some serious time in the weight room. He did not bench at the Combine. He did not bench at his Pro-day. It sends a clear signal when players fail to bench at a job interview.

I think the IR in this case is exactly what it was in the 70's & 80's. It is a way to protect a player that they want to work with. Someone needed t go to IR rather than PS... Zumwalt was dealing with injury, so he is the guy. The roster is loaded at ILB. If they were going to keep another one... it was probably not going to be on the PS.

Does TMC still post on this board?

Sadly not.

He was a lightning rod for every little wannabe that had an opinion. They all wanted to get one over on TMC and he finally had enough of it. Which is our loss.

I agree Slaine, Has TMC landed on another board?

It was a little more than that, he would get some of the worst tunnel vision I've ever seen, sometimes even after a player would start to flash, or while a player he was hoping would do well was crashing and burning, he'd hold onto that notion he had initially about them. It appeared, at least to me, to get worse over the past few years. Who knows, sometimes crap happens in your personal life, and it affects your oulook on other things. I don't think anyone here had any ill feelings toward him, but it's a message board, people are gonna jump your **** from time to time.

I've always found a hearty **** off to be the best cure, but that's just my wonderfully radiant and sweet personality. YMMV.

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to t-man again.

I don't have to dislike TMC or his contributions to dislike the constant gargling of his nutsack on this board. We are all thinking people with our own opinions. We can figure **** out without him
