1 obviously is the QB situation. I expected us to ultimately resign Russ, so if we end up with Rodgers, that takes the top spot, but Wilson settling for 21 million with the Giants shows he grossly misunderstood his value on the market... hell I thought he was gonna get 30 mil per too.. teams are apparently just not thrilled about his age/size combo... I certainly am not unhappy about not overpaying for wilson... but lets see how much Rodgers ends up getting before I know how i really feel about this

For me #2 would be letting Roberts walk in favor of a lb that isnt really a thumper in the run game by prioritizing Holcomb over him... they did also bring in Malik Harrison who is a less impactful thumper type than Rodgers, but better at ST...

3 would be not getting a premium Dt, though I believe they tried unsuccessfully to get a couple... they did make a minor signing... just not what I expected...

4. Is Rudolph coming back over Allen... it marks two straight years with 100% changeover at QB...

5 would be Herbig leaving... but that isnt that big a shock... they signed him as a top level backup who could start at center or any of the guard spots if needed... his specialty was runblocking... hopefully this signals tge team changing some priorities and not just him leaving for a better path to starting ...

6 would be replacing CB DJ with Slay, but only cause or age... Slay is probably ab upgrade if he doesnt age out this season

Outside of that, Im not sure there were any surprises.. Harris was gonna leave... Warren as a RFA wasnt going anywhere... Daniels and Moore were gonna find starting jobs elsewhere... someone was gonna overpay for Fields... Resigning bit players like Loudermilk, miller and Skowronek arent really needlemoving moves...

I guess Im also surprised Patterson hasnt been cut yet... but I think that is just a matter of time...

Shocked that Rodgers hasn't signed yet.

Shocked we didn't trade for Henry or Barkley.

Shocked that ....nevermind.🤥

Not really free agency but the DK MEtcalf trade and new salary was kinda strange.
1. I am surprised they didn't keep Robert's as well.
2. Surprised they really have not signed many free agents period. They should get more comp picks next year than I can recall

1. Publicly stating they wanted to keep Fields or Wilson and they didn't sign either.
2. They didn't re-sign Roberts, maybe the only UFA worth keeping.
3. DK Metcalf. I know that was a trade, but I didn't think they were going to make a move for him. Definitely the big ticket item of the offseason.

- I thought Justin Fields was a sure thing
- but biggest surprise was DK trade & signing
- Was expecting a starting CB = Slay
- Surprised DTs got so much money when none were proven stars so, glad we didn't overpay
- surprised Warren hasn't signed a multi year contract

If the Metcalf trade is on the table, it takes the top spot... both cause I didnt think we would do it do to the potential long term commitment and his volatile nature
I think the Metcalf trade basically decided how they approached free agency so it should be on the table

This is about right.
The QB situation and DL issues really hamstring the Steelers in the draft; can't believe they won't sign at least one more at each spot.

As far as I've been able to see, he hasn't even signed the tender yet...is he hoping for more?

Players always want more. With the Najee gone, Jaylin has a little bit more say in his $$$$ value.

It’s always a $$$power$$$ struggle and I don’t blame any player for attaching the money.!!!

Salute the nation

But he has no leverage. If he doesn't sign, and sits out the year, he doesn't accrue a year, and is still a RFA next year. No one is going to sign him to an offer sheet knowing it'll cost a 2nd round pick, especially in this years draft. He's already guaranteed double what he's made so far...

Biggest surprise?
Trading for Metcalf.
At least until the A-Arod signing is announced.

Shocked that the trade for Aiyuk hasn’t been consummated yet….any day now I’m hearing.

In all seriousness absolutely zero shocking moves, many of the standard/obvious operating procedures being employed.

Biggest shock so far is what some of the departures were able to acquire in the free market and the comp picks Baltimore should get as a result of these Steeler “losses”

Milton Williams getting 26 per was kinda shocking for a “Robin” player that had the benefit of the attention going to Carter and Davis (the “Batman” players).

I figured he'd get quite the pay increase, but nothing along those lines. But you could also look at what Hargrave got, that was way more than I figured he was worth given his injury and age right now. The cap increase is driving these contracts into NBA territory.

In hindsight, the Metcalf signing does make sense. Again, in hindsight, the team promised us a big WR acquisition all year long that never happened and it turns out if hurt the team badley. Now, would it have really have mattered if we did actually obtain a top WR, as promised, before the '04 season had completed? As we now know, probably not. But the fact remains, they kept the vener ongoing that a "top WR was its way" and it never happened. It feels like we were lied to. So, when Metcalf arose as a potential acquisition, they felt like they had to do it to scrape some of that egg off their face; they let us down all last season and must have felt they had to do something to erase that letdown. In reality, it's hardly enough. The majority of fans are not "made whole" from this acquisition. Most are holding off to celebrate to when Clown-lin is walking out the door and nothing short of that will make enough of a difference.

1. Putin's still alive. Rumors of his demise have been going on for years now.

2. Trade for Metcalf. Figured it to be an enticement for one of the top QBs to sign here... but obviously not the case. Should have been a slam dunk to get Fields to resign, or even Darnold to come here. But, the FO likely underestimated Darnold's value and overestimated Fields' willingness to "not learn another system".

3. Letting Roberts go. Dude was our best ILB thumper since Bince, imo.

4. Bringing in Slay. I'd seen some Eagles fans thrilled dude was gone. At 34, this is Pat Pete all over again. An aging/ancient vet on the last bit of gas in the tank.

5. Not trading Pickens. Yet. Figure that will happen in the draft, depending on how it unfolds. Pickens is likely our bargaining chip to get a 2nd round pick.

A 2nd to use to replace.... Pickens? Why bother?
Maybe a number 1 next season to bundle to move up for a QB, but would still need wr2.
Lets sign him now, trade him next year for more.

I meant to bundle him with a pick, or even a pick swap (Pickens and a 5th for a 2nd and 6, or some such combination)?.

Daniels and Robert’s leaving. Daniels signed for 3 million, for that price I would have kept him for a year. There’s always injuries on the line. Robert’s will be missed. While I have no problem getting Metcalf as a player,it sure would have been much better getting a WR in free agency. That contract surely would have attracted someone. Although the pickings weren’t great. That 2nd is going to hurt.

My biggest surprise was a certain LT getting the contract he got. Should be interesting watching his career.

I'm surprised that our losing streak could potentially extend to the point of jeopardizing our standard of unparalleled mediocrity.

But you're still needing to replace him. A player and a pick for two picks, putting us back in the same situation as last year, and needing a WR2.
