Welcome to Draft day 2025

Agreed....but now the impact is cut all but in half. He has a good point. At least one to think on at least when building a roster.
I think you have a point too. It's still important, but not like it was when we drafted AB to be mostly a ST guy (returner).

I think it's more that they're looking to get guys who might make the back end of the roster.

I think it's easier to do that as a ST'er than the 6th WR or whatever.

Especially if you're looking for guys who might get helmets.

If the thing we like least about a draft is picking a 6th / 7th round guy because he's shooting for a spot as a core ST guy vs. a legit positional player at the end of the roster, I think we're in a good spot.

FWIW, with our recent track record in the draft I'm more worried about what happens with our early round guys.

And what does "base" even mean now?

Base now means 2DL imo
Seems 2-4-5 is frequently deployed early and often

Last year they averaged 2.7 DL on the field per play. When you factor in the limited time they play goal line sets inflating that number a bit it would seem that 2DL is the most frequent deployment.

Of the 994 snaps the D played DL players accounted for 2680 total snaps.
Cam and Benton (the two starters) accounted for 1509 of the snaps and the other 4 scrubs 1171 between them all (Ogunjobi, Adams, Lowry and Loudermilk)

Hopefully we see more 3 man fronts this year with the addition of Harmon. They definitely need to get back to 3DL as the base set using the 3-4 early and on running downs and the 3-3-5 in mid range pass sets. Save that 2DL stuff for an actual sub package, not the base…or just keep strutting out 2DL on short yardage and get gashed.

+1

Our base is a nickle. And has been for a very long time.

"Sub packages" are the new base.

One glaring issue is they use that 2DL base as a short yardage set when they should “sub” to a larger front.

If the plan is to continue usage of a 2DL base taking the second big ugly made little sense.
Cam and Benton will continue to see the vast majority of the snaps. Harmon and Ekuale will get the majority of the scraps.

Will Nayha be able to crack one of the last two roster spots? Guessing Lowry makes it as last DE so the new kid has likely gotta beat Adams and Loudermilk.

Now if they move to use more 3DL sets and employ a true NT the pick makes a lot more sense.
With as bad as we were against the run at times, especially when it mattered you’d have to hope they explore that option.

Steelers seem to love Iowa and the Big Ten this year.
They love the power 5 every year. I also think they like to look at what players helped teams to plus wins on a given season.

Just watched the Gruden QB Class youtube video where he spends a day with him.

I'm sure Gruden pumps the tires of all these guys, but it was a good watch.

thanks for sharing.. Gruden should get back into coaching.

He's definitely an impressive kid. He seems to have the personality you want in a QB, and not many QBs his size can move as well as he can.

Before getting too excited, we need to keep perspective, as he was available in the 6th round for a reason.

There were questions about how his passing would translate to the NFL even before the combine where he did not throw that well.

There seems to be enough to potentially develop, but it is hard to expect much with the Steelers coaching.

Great post NB

As much as I’m Not a Gruden fan I’d love to see some of that mental game and speed he trains with in our offense someday.

Can’t help but coming away from watching that without feeling kinda “nicey” about Will Howard.

Realize it’s s just drills, but after watching his combine 💩 seeing some work like this makes
Ya feel a bit better about the kid.

Hope he has what it takes to press for the starting role, possibly perhaps even be the next guy to steal Mason’s lunch (a recurring theme to Rudy’s career).

A lot of analysts have said had Howard thrown better at the combine, he might have been a late 1st/early 2nd round pick.

His performance at the combine kind of reinforced the concerns teams had about him going in.

There's a perception he was largely a product of the scheme and WRs at Ohio State.

Blah blah blah
You said good SEC teams
Georgia made playoff bad teams don’t make playoffs
You site one SEC team out of all of them. What a clown show. You lose. n Milroe put up 41 on them and he's terrible. The ONLY SEC team you site had a down year, PERIOD. You can crown yourself but you are clueless and I don't have time for clueless. LOL at you just wanting to troll the internet and prove someone wrong. Do you make homemade tropies for yourself?? :ROFLMAO:

Enjoy the remainder of your life.

He certainly seems passionate in this clip (and I assume others).

I think it would have been very interesting if all parties involved in those conversations had all of their communications exposed to the sunlight.

Really good watch.

They also often will draft teammates (Sawyer and Howard) or draft player from a school the previous year and head back the next year (Fautanu and Bruener).

Watched the whole thing, and not a Gruden fan so that says a lot.

Kid does seem sharp tho.

We are due for a steal of the draft type of guy…how great would it be if we accidentally got a legit QB?!?!
That would be great. Can we accidentally get a great head coach too?

Asking for me.

🤣

You did see where when injured as a junior he was the best offensive coach on his team,
Sadly with the Steelers this may be the case again

The early offensive coach ratings are in…

1)Howard
2)Artie Smith
3)Rudy
4)**** flinging monkey
5)Mike Tomlin

Don't be mad 'cause he pointed out the flaw in your blanket statement. It's okay to be corrected, we have a lot of seasoned and wise fans on the site. It's why many of us stick around here. No other forum has this level of true blue fandom. We keep it real around here.
