I doubt Tomlin will be fired after yet another "non-losing" season, and on the hook for guaranteed money, but he may feel the pressure to step down if they don't win Saturday, and if he is able to workout a soft landing with a new team behind the scenes.
The problem is the Steelers need to have a plan A, B, C and D in place regarding his replacement before they fire him, or he steps down. They should be targeting some young up and coming coordinators right now. Part of me thinks that Brian Flores might be someone to strongly consider, but I worry he would be Tomlin 2.0 with more focus on defense with no clue about how to compete on offense. He also flamed out with Miami.

many of us picked after 2026 to be his cut off point even 5 years ago...
There were a couple clear break points for him
One was Ben retiring, and that didnt happen
There were a couple really logical trades that would probably have appeased him and given us a crack at a obvious replacement, like with Chicago abd getting Ben Johnson last year
But i believe after 2026 all his kids will have graduated and Dan Rooney should be ready to take over and Art Retire.. on top of that if he wins 9 more games he ties Noll for total career wins (Reg plus playoffs)

Listening to his press conferences over the last few years, and his responses whenever the media dare to suggest anything he does is less than perfect or bring up fan criticism, I get the feeling if he is under any sort of spotlight he is going to stay on as a big "**** you" to his critics.

Paying Dk 33 million per year for 850 yds should be enough to be fired.
Add in trading away a better Wr making 31 million less.
There aren't words for that level of stupidity.

There's absolutely downsides. However, listening to DK he often highlights Tomlin only looking at the team through the lens of the defensive side of the ball. He just does not have the mindset needed to advance the offensive side of the ball. This team doesn't even luck into big offensive performances because they hold themselves back by design.

That was a new level of pathetic.

I don't think it's a fair comparison since the receiver traded away would not have had the same numbers he put up in Dallas had he remained under Tomlin's inept offensive thumb. He will be laughing his way to the bank after the season. He would not be a pro bowl receiver here. He would have been a constant complainer and in Tomlin's doghouse most of the year due to a bad attitude and locker room disrupter. Trading him helped the locker room and helped him. He wasn't going to produce here regardless with the existing offensive approach to the offense.
Over / under when those chants start this week is what, midway through the second quarter?
I think the current contract with the option probably was set up to cover him reaching that wins milestone in case he had to get a couple in 2027
But on the flip side, if Tomlin continues to be an unpopular HC, the team wont get the favorable PR it needs for the Stadium upgrades or replacement it wants... cause they want it on the taxpayer dime

The way I see it, the fans might have their chance to force Rooney's hand if the game and atmosphere turn ugly enough on national TV.
Obviously, if the Steelers play well, forget it, but if it turns into a disaster, the fans need to be loud and heard.
Non-losing record or not, I'm not sure how even Art2 could justify the status quo if they collapse to end the season for the second year in a row.

I just don't know what to think sometimes. I listen to DK, who I really like because I think he has a measured approach. He was saying how the middle of the field was a no fly area for Steeler receivers against the Browns. But then I see a shot of the 4th and 1 that Rodgers threw to Miller in the 2nd quarter, and he has Theilen wide open, where? In the middle of the field. They also had a seam route on the play that may have come open.
I don't have the exact quote, but Tomlin after last season said he doesn't like the middle of the field because it greatly increases the risk of turnovers.

You're highlighting just a few plays out of dozens in that game and hundreds throughout the season.
Maybe there are reasons Rodgers was ignoring the middle of the field in those situations?
The Steelers have thrown over the middle of the field less than any team in the league since 2019.
It doesn't matter if it's future HOF QBs or journeymen in that the Steelers just haven't done it with any consistency for a long time and we all know why.
The "middle of the field" debate aside, the Steelers approached the Browns game beyond scared with Metcalf out and Garrett chasing the sack record.
They're trying to win a division title and they run on 3rd and 6 AND 3rd and 4 at different points in the game?
If you're going to do that against the Browns defense, you may as well punt on 3rd down.
A change is long over due and will be more than justified if they lose to the Ravens. It's been justified for a long time, if we're being honest.

The big break time is NOT to pick up his option year ‘27. Art 2 won’t pay his contract empty.
If Mike were to step down sooner, and timely with looking for replacement. I mean right after season is over and not drag out to be a part of the new hire process, similar to Colbert staying on.
There are so many ways for things to continue bad, but the first step is to get him off the premises.

If something happens it needs to be the day after the season to ends to let them have a full run at the best candidates
I highly doubt things move that fast or if he is even gone. My guess is unfortunately Rooney does nothing, hopes the fans and media cool off, and then quietly extends Tomlins contract in February.

It says to me the Steelers desperately need to tone down the arrogance. They have a coach who has been there too long and thinks he knows everything. They bring in these veteran quarterbacks who think they know everything. All they know really how to do is go 9-8 or whatever. What piisses me off is you think you have an answer...Tomlin schematically stays away from the middle, but then you have visual proof, for at least one play anyway, that isn't the case.

This is why I can't see him stepping down on his own after a loss, because he wants to prove everyone wrong and say I told you.
