The only question will be whether Rooney exercises the 2027 option on Tomlin's contract if they lose Sunday night.

He put that in the contract for a reason , and neither side wants to go into 2026 with no financial commitment beyond that.

Short of something crazy happening (like the Steelers reaching the AFC title game), Rooney would lose any credibility he has left with fans by extending Tomlin into 2027, let alone beyond it.

Maybe he just doesn't care like his father Dan seemed to, but I'd like to think otherwise, considering the city already has one stubborn ******* sports owner in Bob Nutting.

Tomlin will never be fired in the conventional sense, but the stars might be aligning for a mutual parting of ways, depending on what happens not just against the Ravens, but in the home playoff game if they were to beat the Ravens.

Rooney might not hold his teams to quite the same standards as prior decades, but I suspect he definitely doesn't want another repeat of the Bills game disaster on national TV over the next couple weeks.

And at some point, even Rooney has to start asking himself, " I'm paying this guy $16mil a season for what, exactly?"

Everything you said makes total sense and is exactly what should happen, I hope you’re right…

The issue is Rooney has plenty of money and I think his past inaction on Tomlins shortcomings shows us he cares more about his families outdated ways of doing things than competing for championships and playoff success

I do think embarrassment is the only way he is spurned into getting rid of Tomlin

I keep saying, the only thing Pittsburgh fans hate more than losing in the playoffs is night games. There were 15-20,000 no shows for the MNF and it would not surprise me if there will be nearly that many for this SNF. It's a big reason why I was hoping for the Saturday night spot. It would've been a larger and better crowd.

The Steelers played so well because they were actually outcoaching opponents during that stretch. Backs against the wall, must-win. The second they start to feel good about themselves they lose to a 3-win team. Division game or not, you cannot lose to a 3-win team with the chance to clinch a playoff spot.

And there sums up my continual frustration with this organization. It's like they throw a giant party the night before a game against lesser opponents totally disregarding them. No preparation, no game adjustments, etc and they get caught with their pants down. Year after year.

It's also why I think they will win the Rats game, because all of a sudden **** just got real. But, IMO they can't handle the post season - I don't think there's enough brain power, and way too much stubbornness. Sad as that is to say.

That's his belief. Win turnover battle. Keep the ball in front of you on defense and force field goals not TDs. And it works to a 10-7 record. Literally no chance for a deep run in the playoffs. If you vacate area on defense and refuse to exploit it on offense. You are cooked. Period.

The first ugly set of plays: a 3 and out with dumb play calling for our offense, or Henry gashing the defense-will get booed.

Fire Tomlin won’t be till the 2nd half and down by double digits

I hope we win by 30 but fans are going to be ready to pounce. That Browns game was a new low…
