But the reality is only one team does, and an MVP caliber QB is needed to do that. Who cares about winning a playoff game? Big deal! It just makes you a failure the next week when you get beat. Tomlin has had a great career. I give him credit. But just like Noll and Cowher, it's past time for a new leader.

You really believe that?

The list of non MVP caliber qb to win superbowls is longer than the MVPs

What's the point of posting such baffling statements?

Without knowing yet exactly what you are asking I will say this. Nothing is locked in, they do not have to keep anything within the scheme or playbook in the beginning preparation of the week. They can adjust at any given time what they wish their approach to be… you obviously only desire small tweaks the bigger ones should be installed in the beginning of training camp.

Obviously you have to teach and practice scenarios during your practice week.

The coaches will be limited to what they have taught their players.

In game you can adjust formations and playcalling and pre game and in game you can discuss tendencies.

A head coach at any given moment can say to a coordinator this isn’t working let us do this. If he is proficient at knowing X and Os that can be a great help. If not the coordinators that he chooses should be highly proficient in this area.

A coordinator is limited to what approach they are instructed to use, scheme is at their disposal.

A HC is limited to what he has taught their players.

When you look at the GB Bears game you see some things. Good half time adjustments. A HC proficient at X and Os. Evidence by Detroit not making the playoffs and Chicago making the playoffs fresh off the change. And winning their playoff game.

They all had access to their playbooks and work within those constraints. The HCs either specialize in X and Os or brought in someone who they think specializes in it.

If there is an element that is deficient the HC needs to be able to identify it in the offseason, training camp, in season, in game.

They can change formations, players, even coaches.

Teams go through changes because either the GM and or HC is deficient in one area enough that it is holding a team back from accomplishing their goals.

What else in his post do you find so baffling?

He didnt say you needed an MVP qb to win a SB, he said you need an MVP CALIBER qb....stressing the fact that you need a pretty darn good one.

Steelers-specific, I've felt we've seen more week-to-week and some in-game adjustments more this season than the past 5 seasons. However, there were other weeks some of the plans and decisions were simply awful.

It started with that huge game in Ireland. At the time, the Vikings were thought to be a very good team in the NFC. Offensively, we saw something different and it not only carried the Steelers through the season, but something we saw other teams implement as well. I don't know if the Steelers were the trend setters, but the jumbo package on offense really helped.

When Watt was out, we saw adjustments made on defense that helped propel the team into the playoffs. I'd even say the staff did a good job juggling all the injuries and performance issues at safety.

The problem with our staff is they do not take this type of approach every week. They fall back into what feels safe and safe leads to mediocre seasons year in and out. As they move into next season, if Arthur Smith doesn't get a HC job, hire a passing game coordinator. Find an up-and-coming coach who has HC potential in the future to help develop the passing game and any young QBs on the roster. A new DC is a must. I'm cool if they find a retread who's been successful in the past. I'd also love to see a young coach who has new ideas.

This is a stupid team, other than Aaron who is very football smart

If this team gets a little momentum in the form of a playoff win with the smart guy driving the car they are indeed dumb enough to ride as far as he takes them…hopefully it is a victorious ride off into the sunset for two legends…and Cam

Man cam had 1 hell of a year. Hopefully he has a few more great games in him

That would depend on what fits your narrative.

Ben has never won MVP. Never got a single vote.
But he has had MVP caliber numbers.

Except for last year when Tomlin loses a playoff game so does Ben…or vice versa.
But Ben has never won MVP.
But Ben has had MVP numbers so he is MVP caliber.

Football is extremely subjective. Nobody is right about everything all the time…although there are a couple people here that think they are.

Well Tomlins teams have been terrible in the playoffs going on 9 years. Ben was MVP caliber. Those are facts not narratives.

A “narrative” was Ben was holding the team back-were you one of those guys spinning that? History hasn’t been kind to that narrative.

There’s more down the field and over the middle passing in the first quarter from the Jags, Bills, Pats, and Chargers than Tomlin does in a whole game

Tomlin has had an MVP caliber QB, yet has not won a playoff game.

What you probably mean is Tomlin cannot win a playoff game even with an MVP caliber QB because he is holding the team back.

Then explain how Tomlin held the team back when Ben threw 6 int’s in the playoff loss to Baker Mayfield and the Browns?

Of course he won playoff games with Ben, not after though, not once. Ben was shown the door when his performance dropped, Tomlin gets raises and extensions

Yup Ben played bad in that one playoff game, but Tomlins teams have sucked in the playoffs going on 9 years- fact
