The head coach search

Last edited:
This guy and whatever staff he would bring, would be at the top of my list.
One concern with him is his age and how sometimes college coaches success don’t transfer over. I prefer a college coach to get his feet wet in the NFL but I probably would still interview him.

Is this a who should or who will be hired question?
Who should be considered… Kliff Kingsbury, Joe Brady, Robert Saleh, Jesse Minter, and imo Stefanski wouldn’t be a bad choice as he made the factory of sadness look good until he got stuck with Rub n Tug at QB.

Who likely will be… Brian Flores, Marcus Freeman, or Mike McCarthy.

My pick would be Davis Webb.

He's only 64. I guess I'm desperate for someone who can come in and build a winner quick, and he is from the motherland.

I'd definitely interview him. In fact,I'd interview everyone under the sun if I'm the Steelers. This is a huge deal considering they don't fire anyone.

Give me great teachers and brilliant tactical minds who can teach their players football chess.

I don't care about motivators and all of that nonsense. Motivation is fleeting, discipline gets the job done.

I'm just thrilled we're having this conversation today!..lol

Not sure why people are saying gruden. He was awful his last HC stint. I like Gruden, but we need someone fresh. I want someone young and hungry. I would prefer offense, but as long as they hire a good OC it doesn't matter. Minter or Kubiak would be fine. Cignetti is not that young, but I would take him and he would probably bring his OC who i like as well

Why Davis Webb…..give a little insight

CEO types are on the way out, schemes are the move now. The Steelers need an X's and O's coach. Give me a coach who can scheme and can command a locker room. For instance, Mike McDaniel is a good offensive coach, but does he command the room? Eh. I'd still interview him.

I'd also heavily lean offense. If we hire a defensive guy, we'll constantly be on the lookout for another OC because if they're good, they get a HC job.

Retreads (offense):
Kevin Stefanksi
Mike McDaniel

Retreads (defense):
Brian Flores
Robert Saleh

Retreads (special teams):
John Harbaugh - just to troll the NFL

OCs/Assisants:
Mike LaFleur (OC-Rams)
Grant Udinski (OC-Jaguars)
Nate Scheelhaase (Passing Game Coordinator-Rams)
Klint Kubiak (OC-Seahawks)
Davis Webb (QB-Broncos)

DCs/Assistants:
Chris Shula (DC-Rams)
Jesse Minter (DC-Chargers)
Aden Durde (DC-Seahawks)
Kelvin Sheppard (DC-Lions)
Jeff Hafley (DC-Green Bay) - has the always important Pittsburgh connection

College
Marcus Freeman
Are there any others? This usually isn't a smooth transition, but coaches are fed up with pay-for-play and may look to jump to the NFL. So many of their acts just won't work with adults, though.

honestly someone fill me in here.

Why you guys all putting Stefanski on your lists. Cleveland had the best Defense in NFL or top 5 ,, whatever.. Their offense was just bad. He had plenty of chances to draft a qb that was decent.

I dont want that dude.. Why would you?

There's value to gaining insight about options by interviewing a wide variety of candidates. I may learn how he's owned the Steelers in recent years as well.
