why do you think he is vastly superior to Allar?
(this one is for the archives, so splain real good like)
I just watched two games of each player (one from 2024, one from 2025). Not highlights. Every snap.
Again, I know Sorsby is a knucklehead gambling addict and maybe a complete jerk. I bet Allar is superior on the psyche tests.
But on film, I think Sorsby is better for a number of reasons:
1. He processes the game quicker. Sorsby looks/acts more like a point guard. Allar looks a bit slower in his "see it, decide it" plays.
2. Sorsby has a better, more consistent arm. Quicker release. More consistent slot angle on release. I don't mind improvizing throwing motions when needed, but I Allar changes throwing motions even when it's NOT needed and that is a big red flag for me. When Allar kind of sees the play "late/slow" in his brain, his tendancy is to "quicken up" his throwing motion to catch up. That creates inconsistencies in his delivery and accuracy (and even pace/fastball/touch). I just think Sorsby, even when he looks rushed to make a play, throws a better ball and anticipates better. They both struggle a bit on deep ball accuracy, but everyone does. Even the pros overthrow long balls sometimes. That's as much timing with receivers and what you don't see happening between WR and DB than we realize.
3. I think Sorsby is a naturally better athlete.
That's what I see. I think Allar is a bit "slow brained", which is fine in college, but I just see his ability to process the game a tick slower than it really needs to be to make the leap into the pro game. Sure he's a good athlete, big, strong, good arm in shorts. There are a LOT of guys like that. When you really start picking his game apart however - and you need to for PRO LEVEL QB play - there are some issues.
I mean, you can scheme around it. You can get quality snaps and games from a lot of guys in the NFL. Mason Rudolf looked good in some NFL games. But if you want boom prospects, there has to be more to work with than what Allar brings to the table in my opinion. Maybe Sorsby doesn't check all the boxes. Likely doesn't. But I think he is a superior prospect if you are looking for a franchise quarterback.
And honestly, that's what I want. I don't want more Picketts and Rudolfs and Allars and Howards. I want the next Roethlisberger (maybe not top-20 all time, but Steelers hall-of-fame good). And if that means going 6-11 this year and taking a flyer on a legit NFL QB prospect, let's just do it.
