1. Troy is nearing the end of his career. No ifs, ands nor buts about that. He has more games behind him than he does ahead of him, unless you believe he is going to be playing in the NFL once he surpasses the 40-years old threshold.
2.If you think Ben is over-rated, then post some stats to solidify your stance. Surely you're aware of that.

Though, with being more negative than positive-minded, it's not surprising you'd ask how your hypotheticals would be different than this thread.

I was comparing the Ben/Troy arguments to the Archer one merely as old, overhashed, divisive arguments that pop up frequently on this board. Certainly not making a statement about Ben or Troy.

I admire (marvel at?) the optimism some of you guys have. I don't share it, considering the mediocrity of our roster and recent results.

So guess which 2014 non-1st or 2nd round drafted offensive player appears to be injured and at risk of not playing this weekend...

No kidding! Bryant's injury actually reverses time and makes Archer's many college injuries unhappen.

Or something.

Watching the Seahawks last nite and the way they used Percy Harvin made me think is that the way we can use Archer? Can that be the template we use? Or is Archer too small to be used the same way? Percy is listed at 5-11 184. Watching Archer take hits in the preseason did not leave me with the impression that the game is too physical for him. He bounced up every time. Those jets sweeps in the run game would be a nice way to incorporate him into the offense and give the Doobie Brothers lanes in the run game.

Look who is blocking for Harvin. Our OL can't run block for ****. Look at their WRs blocking. Wheaton isn't a great blocker. J. Brown sure as hell isn't.
 
Hope lil Dri isn't hurt too bad. Who would have ever guess that a guy of his stature would end up getting hurt in his very first game?
 
Tomlin post game says achilles injury he will be evaluated.....
 
I don't want any Steeler hurt, but it was completely stupid on his part to bring that kick out late. Now the I told you so people will be fist pounding, congrats.
 
What did the great wheaton do as a third round pick last year?
 
Steelers Depot is reporting an injured ankle not Achilles. Either way he's hurt as predicted.
 
Too many people seem happy he is hurt. That is pitiful! He made some great plays in the preseason and if healthy, would do it during the season. But, I guess rooting for someone to get injured to say I told you so is much better.

That is why I thought h wasn't in on the next kick. Very poor decision which cost his team when they weren't playing well.
 
A rookie mistake. Not good call on his part however he was trying to help his team. The rest of the team played re ****** for most of the second half and I dou t it was because they were too small. Jones Jarvis had a sack when it looked like aright end was sent out to block him and acted like he did not see him. The rest of the time he played line backer like Ike Taylor intercepts passes.
 
Want to know why the first screen to the right worked so well? It was because they motioned Archer left and the entire Brown's D shifted left on the snap. Both middle linebackers also followed him, which allowed our downfield blockers to get position. He doesn't have to have the ball in his hands to make an impact. Godspeed Mr Archer!
 
Also on Brown's TD Archer ran a wheel route and Ben looked his way causing the Safety to run over towards the sidelines. If Ben had time the middle of the field was open. Forget who it was but they were wide open for a touchdown. Ben had to scramble out and eventually hit Brown on the other side of the field.


Stupid but understandable decision to bring the kickoff out. Trying to make a play. When we needed it. Rookie mistake.
 
that was Brown in the middle (that sounds dirty) but he also went to the end zone and gave Ben a target since the great, superflouous Haden was behind him

That wasn't the point; point was who got hurt and was unavailable to play/start the season due to injury.

I don't buy this "injury history" crap, it's not like it is a predictor of future injuries; Everyone gets hurt in the NFL eventually; it's part of the game. Lots of bigger/stronger/slower guys get hurt every week, unless you have a chronic/recurring injury to a certain body part, I don't think it's much of an indicator.

Obviously Dri got hurt yesterday, but so did a lot of people, including some for the year.
Bryant hurt his shoulder, but nobody was griping about it - probably wouldn't have griped had he been a 3rd round pick instead of a 4th rounder either, but for some reason it's a recurring theme because Dri is small and will be "broken". I don't buy it.

You're absolutely right about all of that. "Injury-prone" is a reckless tag to label someone with. It's stupid to point to an injury or two and try to make a claim. But a guy who is frequently injured in a part-time role and takes longer than expected to heal is a red flag. Some guys are more reckless with their bodies than others (Troy and Gronkowski, for example),some guys may simply have weaker tissue than others, some guys milk minor injuries to the point that injury becomes a long-running concern, etc.

Dri getting injured yesterday doesn't "prove" that he's made of glass, but injury is certainly a recurring theme with him.
 
yes, because he was injured every single time he touched the ball in pre-season.

Good, glad we agree on that.
I definitely agree it can be a "prone" thing if someone has notoriously week tissue/ligaments somewhere - and that sort of injury is one that tends to get tweaked often (knees/shoulders/hamstrings/etc), but I haven't seen that to be the case yet. Maybe he was weak ankles, but I think lots of NFL guys do, a lot of force put on them with guys' size/speed; once you tweak one of them, sometimes they can be recurring. Was Sean Spence considered "injury prone" before he came to the NFL? I don't know, but I know he is now!

Let's hope the "theme" doesn't continue for him, or any other Steelers.

Thought he played well except for the poor kick return late, which is where I think he was injured. Someone has to tell this rook he can't bring that ball out in that situation.
