Can a defensive player win the Heisman Again? Coolie Pimps Ed Oliver

Only guys from power 5 schools can be good NFL pass rushers. You should just ignore small schools guys.

Michael Strahan - Texas Southern
Jason Taylor - Akron
Demarcus Ware - Troy
Richard Dent - Tennessee State
John Randle - Texas A&M Kingsville
Jared Allen - Idaho State

Those are 6 of the top 11 in career sacks

Honorable mentions
Khalil Mack - Buffalo
Demarcus Lawrence - Boise State

Steeler History
Mean Joe Greene - North Texas State
Greg Lloyd - Fort Valley State
James Harrison - Kent State

Well they probably played against weak teams in their respective conferences at the time, so Tape you can’t use those guys for just prudence. At least according to Coach.

Oliver questionable for UH's game Saturday vs. (unbeaten) South Florida.

A win by the Cougars and they're on their way to a "Big Six" bowl game.

The way their offense has been playing, I'd be surprised if they lose.

I'll be surprised if Oliver doesn't play. He may have to strap on that knee brace, but I expect he will be out there.

Once the offense gets rolling on game day, it is a lot of fun to watch

If you look at the number of PAGES vs Dri Archer,...........OLIVER is less than 1/10th the player Archers was.

So unless OLIVER can play multi-positions or "position flexible"............WTF. Are we talking about?

Salute the nation

Oliver could play TE or even RB

But, PFF is the source of truth for Coach. So, does that mean he has to disagree with himself?

Coolie, if UH wins out what Bowl will give Oliver greater recognition to the masses?

I never said ignore the small school guys. Let's be fair. I'm saying if your in a small school and want to be viewed as a pass rusher, you need sacks. Oliver is not a pass rusher and his sacks ( 3 for the year ) came against very weak teams. Those are facts.

Based on what's I've seen on film, he's a hustle type player beating college centers and guards, the vast majority of whom would not start in power five conferences. He's not a Warren Sapp type of gap shooter. He's not a big bull rush guy either. He's also very undersized, and I think will have issues vs the Run in the NFL. I doubt he can anchor or play 2 gap at 275 pounds in the NFL. This isn't the 1970's. Pretty much every center or guard in the NFL is 300-325 pounds, and by my eye Oliver isn't 6'3" and his arms are not long.

To clarify once again, I'm not saying he won't go in the first round, just not in the first ten picks. Are you embracing PFF now?

The link popped up in my twitter feed....I don't know if I've ever bashed pff....I bash pft all the time cause they suck

you keep harping on Oliver's weight like the kid couldn't put on 20-30 pounds at the next level....he has a good frame and could add some weight and not lose his quickness

I do find it funny that you bash Oliver's pass rush ability and PFF has him graded as the 4th best at 88.6 with an overall grade of 93.4

and Oliver doesn't view himself as a pass rusher...he says he is a run stopper who can rush the passer when needed....

PFF is better at grading NFL competition because the playing field is level.

Competition in college football can vary greatly depending on the conference you play in and the schedule you play. Its not an apples to apples comparison like the NFL is. Do we agree?

For example I'd rather have a 88 graded DL in the SEC over say a 90 graded DL in the MAC.

Sure a player can add weight. 5-10 pounds, no big deal. 30 pounds...big deal. The more you add, the greater loss of stamina, speed and quickness which is the best part of Oliver's game.

I agree with Oliver that is not a pass rusher. This means he's not true a 3 down type of player in the NFL, and will be rotated in and out on obvious passing downs.

I view him as a shed and tackle type vs. the run with good range, not the type of DT who can occupy an NFL blocker, keeping his middle linebackers clean. Oliver gets pushed back too easily, and spends to much time on the ground vs. his college competition.

According to this link, his 40 time is 4.87. They say 6'2" tall, not 6'3" tall. Arm measurements are unknown, but are not long.

I think they would have to win out and hope that UCF is still undefeated and ranked top 10 when they meet in the conference champ game.

I'm rooting for UCF to go undefeated and left out of the playoff then sue the NCAA for fraud. The NCAA claims every team has a chance to win the championship but everybody knows in football, that's not true. UCF would have ample evidence that non power 5 schools are effectively excluded from the process.

your assessment is that he can't play the run and can't rush the passer. Just say that you think he sucks. Don't play both sides by saying you think he will be drafted in the first round. If you believe in your assessment then he is a bust and should be drafted in the 5th round.

while that would be interesting to watch...I am hopeful that UCF will be undefeated when they host UH for the conference championship, but not when the game ends

they have two other games that could be difficult, USF who is currently undefeated (but face UH this weekend) and Cincinnati but I believe they will get past them and host the AAC championship game

Can we please stop playing this ridiculous game of pretending that UCF's schedule is on par with that of real Power5 contenders?? This **** is getting tiresome.

Sue the NCAA for fraud, he says. Get the **** out of here

it is comparable to what Texas or OU would face on their path to a playoff.....hell UH beat OU in 2016 and they still made it to the playoff
