Can a defensive player win the Heisman Again? Coolie Pimps Ed Oliver

Can we please stop playing this ridiculous game of pretending that UCF's schedule is on par with that of real Power5 contenders?? This **** is getting tiresome.

Sue the NCAA for fraud, he says. Get the **** out of here

I doubt some can, but others know the real deal.

all I get is an ESPN header and Page not found......does the link work for anyone else?

Class of 2016...so that was as he left high school....

as I said before, we won't know his true measurements until the combine....

but I doubt he runs a 4.87....

damn Oliver went a whole game without a sack or tackle or anything....******* loser......

oh wait he was out injured......hopefully he is back next week

Recorded the game so i could watch him get thrown around like a rag doll. Clearly, the ***** was to afraid to get shown up on TV.

Funny.

Durability is part of the draft process too. Too bad, Oliver vs. a top 25 ranked opponent is nonexistent in 2018. All this proved was his team did just fine without him winning their biggest game of the year.

Navy chopped blocked him the whole game, they got called for it twice but did it more than that, including the last time in the 4th quarter when he got hurt....

They won because they are a good team and rotated players all along the front line to cover for Oliver being out and the fact that they have a high powered offense...

durability....Bosa is out with his second major injury. This is the first game Oliver has missed at UH. He got injured vs Temple last season and missed the second half, but played the rest of the season with a brace on his knee and still did very well

Coolie,

I'm not saying he's a china doll, but I did find it interesting they won a big game without him. I read he's iffy for next week. I hope he plays.

Regarding the much debated talent among the conferences, I took a look at past drafts

2018

SEC - 53 players drafted
ACC - 45 players drafted
Big Ten - 33 players drafted
Pac Ten -30 players drafted
Big 12 - 20 players drafted

American - 18 total players drafted, a high mark as they only had 15 drafted in 2017 and 10 drafted in 2016.

Looking at it by the numbers the American conference is likely 6th or 7th best in terms of players drafted.

More interesting to me is how many interior lineman ( Centers or Guards ) from the American conference were drafted from 2016-2018 as this is Oliver's most common opponent. Do you want to research that?

So the Steelers winning a big game without Ben makes him less talented?

Why should I do any research for you?

So the number of players drafted from the American has increased each season as NFL teams realize there is quality to be found there.

............................................
.

HOUSTON – Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver has been named a semifinalist for the Bednarik Award for the second year in a row, the Maxwell Football Club announced Monday morning.

Oliver is one of 20 semifinalists for the award presented annually to the nation's outstanding defensive player.

The first underclassman to win the Outland Trophy and a consensus All-American in 2017, Oliver leads all defensive linemen with an average of 7.29 tackles per game on the season.

In seven games of action that have seen constant double and triple teams, the Houston native has totaled 51 tackles including 13.5 tackles for loss and three sacks. He's also added nine quarterback hurries, one pass breakup and one forced fumble that resulted in a scoop-and-score for Houston.

Oliver has multiple tackles for loss in four games this season, including a current three-game streak, and has hit double digits in tackles twice with 13 stops each vs. Tulsa and Rice.

Named the nation's top defensive player entering the season by several national outlets, Oliver leads all active players nationally with a career average of 1.64 tackles for loss per game.

I doubt the Steelers would beat a 7-0 team without Ben. Steelers vs the Rams with Dobbs starting. Easy pick.

Ben means far more to the Steelers than ANY DL player in college means to his team. A bad analogy on your part.

You don't have to do any research for me, I left it open as I'm the guy showing you the details here. I think you suspect the answer to my question is Oliver has faced ZERO or One drafted player in the American conference at Guard / Center, magnifying my point about the lack of competition he faces.

Another obvious point is the American conference is viewed as 6th or 7th in the eyes of NFL teams drafting the college players. I’m not saying they can’t produce first round picks.

My point was that the team winning without a top player doesn't detract from that players level of skill. Quality teams come together and step up to cover for their stars when they are out of a game.

your point on the draft of OL players still doesn't explain why Oliver still played very well against the Power 5 schools he has faced.

The American was only 2 behind the Big 12 last year and almost double the nearest Group of 5 school...and the number drafted went up each season so the opinion of the NFL scouts is obviously improving.

Since you asked pal, I won't be driving a station wagon. I've got a nice Halloween party coming up on Wednesday.

In my development, some of the homes convert their driveways to bars for the adults offering shots or beers for free while the children trick or treat. I shall sample.

On November 4th, there's a game to watch. The Friday and Saturday after that, I'm attending a wedding in a nice hotel, with the ceremony on the beach.

I might have time to watch Oliver's next game, assuming he's healthy enough to play.

No silly I mean the time you will be band from the board once you lose your bet? I think that is 30 days if I remember correctly.

You have a fair point about the Big 12. They are not very good and are lucky to be in the power 5.

Arizona is a weaker Pack 12 team. Oliver did not stand out in this game in 2018. Pretty much every conference has their door mat teams

I don't care what Mel Kiper things. I predict Oliver will decline from mock draft websites as time goes on. He's not a pass rusher, and gets neutralize / pushed back too often vs smaller college defensive lineman who won't sniff an NFL roster. Sure, he's great at shedding blocks on his level, and can tackle well but I still think he's not going inside the top ten of the 2019 draft.

Coolie could get lucky, as this is a very weak QB class. We shall see who wins, but 30 days off for me won't change anything at all. In the meantime, I have months of fun in this thread :)

Arizona is 3-3 in the Pac-12 and tied for second in their division...they just stomped the **** out of #19 Oregon

As a true freshman he played very well against both OU and Louisville and then had another Arizona as a Sophomore....

This season he is still #1 among DL in tackles per game and #2 in the country in TFLs....

This should be a defensive heavy draft class...and Oliver is right at the top of it

Who was claiming the smaller conferences had as much talent as the power 5 conferences?

Coach how can bash him like you do, your ability to grade film is really questionable

There was some college conference stuff here, so I just wanted to show the readers which conference has the most players drafted. I think its interesting. Right now I'll settle for any talented college cornerback as long as he works out well, has good production, and proves it in the senior bowl week.

Hello FNG. You can judge my film break down on Burns, and remember I wanted X Howard, who's much better and would have taken the trade down picking Safety Simmons, who's quality.

Our you can see who I would have taken in 2018, and compare / contrast it to who the Steelers selected.

I'm not always right, and I think Colbert is decent. Doesn't mean I can't be better on any given year.

I was also for pressuring Bell to sign the tender and trading him before the draft. That ship has sailed
