2016-2017 Pens----Still with 100% more Kessel

Meh, not going to worry until after tomorrow night, if they would happen to lose to go down 0-2. This team has great resiliency but its pretty foolish to put it to the test each and every series.

The pens looked like the better team, but they could not CAPITALize on their chances.
Both goals were due to sloppy / lazy plays and Fleury made a few saves on a couple of other prime giveaways.
The 4th line seems to get it, but the other lines are not doing the hard work. Phil, Sid, and Malkin were especially bad. Guentzel, Kunitz, and Rust played decent. Sheary needs to ride the bench as well.
Sullivan needs to do something with the amount of turnovers and the god awful powerplay.
At one point late in the game Karlsson had more shots than our top 4 guys combined. That can not happen.
I am afraid we are going to see the capitals series in reverse

My thoughts exactly!

Indysteel, where were you during the regular season? ;)

Just living life. I'm out of market so I watch the nationally televised games. My sports viewing is pretty much limited to all Steelers games and Pens playoff games, by choice. Most sports bore me. They don't play basketball the right way anymore and baseball is like taking Ambien. The wife and I watch a lot of shows on tv and the kids and I go to a lot of movies.

I don't know what game you all were watching, but the Sens out played us at pretty every level. There were flashes of the Pens skill, but they were flashes only.

That goal in the second that MAF let in the net was called off but it was a goal. We got a gift.

Malkin was crap except for that redirect, and Maata stank all the way to us here in Wyoming.

The fourth line got it, but the Sens seemed to know that and respond.

Just shameful. Monday the series starts.

Think the Pens overlooked them? Like how the Steelers constantly overlook teams they should beat?

Seems like this team regularly plays better on the road during the playoffs.

I'm pretty certain that everything you mentioned was talked about regarding the game at some point. They need to play better and knock Ottawa around. I'll give the first game as a gift to the Sens, but that's it. They are not in the same ballpark as the Pens.

I don't necessarily disagree, but I just don't think that Ottawa completely dominated, as you sort of implied. Pittsburgh had plenty of opportunities that turned into nothing, and most of the time, it was self-inflicted. Ottawa played good, yes, but if that's the best they have, than the Pens should prove to be the superior team. Whether or not that happens though, is the question in all of our minds. We hit a bunch of posts, more than even they did. The bounces just went their way last night. Anderson was beat plenty of times. Hell, one post re-directed right straight to his back, and instead of going into the net, it somehow bounced out of harms way. One thing they really need to stop is that no-look drop. Too many times has it been dropped to the other team who immediately capitalized.

Agreed. There's no excuse for this team to go 0-5 on the PP in one game, and be in an 0-10 funk. Of course, ringing two posts with the extra man never helps. Anderson was beat last night. We gotta finish our chances. There's reason for optimism.

Yeah it was a weird game. You can tell the Pens were kinda just sleepwalking. If any, that 4th line was dominating. Rowney and
Wilson were killing that defense all game. The Pens hurt themselves

And JMM. Yes kinda like the Steelers overlooking opponents

I agree about Malkin, he was bad, but I thought Olli actually had a pretty good game, You should be blaming Sid for standing around the blue line picking his nose.
Schultz pinched and failed to keep the puck in, Crosby and Rust both were standing still and THEN Maatta gets smoked.

I know maatta has a good +/- but to me he has not looked that good. He is really slooooow. He has had a lot happen to him in his young career, but he has never regained his rookie form. He should not have been pinching in there. Tie game in OT and we did not even have solid possession. Of course he was not the only one to blame, but he is the one who made the highlight reel.

Crosby was really bad. He had maybe 1-2 good bursts, but just bad passes / giveaways / execution in general. Malkin was Malkin, and was a giveaway machine. I remember those games where Malkin could take over the whole game. Have not seen those in a long time...Phil is in a slump and everything that can go wrong is for him and his backchecking / grinding was never stellar to begin with. I would maybe pull a Trot and move Sid off the top line and give Guentzel and Rust someone who can dig out the puck. The 4th line is playing great, but they dont have finishers. Sheary maybe out worst player currently he should be on the bench. Not sure what the solution is, but I think some fresh legs are needed to inject some life.

We know our defense can't be counted on to win games, it's all on the offense. They sputtered. Of course Sid hasn't been the same since he got brained.

Everytime I say bench Kunitz he has a good game - so bench Kunitz.

I told you he would end up in the top 6 and slow everything down. We need guys in front of the net to get the **** goals too.

Ducks just smacked the **** out of the Preds, all in front of the net.

IF we're only letting up 1 goal in regulation, we should be winning those games. I don't expect the Sens to keep the Pens a low scoring team, and when they score, they will come in bunches.

that was a feeling out game for the Pens. They need to work on the trap and the D needs to watch getting trapped, being lazy. They know what they need to do. They've been here before to adjust.

Yeah I thought it was the hangover effect. They need to wake up and get it done tonight. 2-0 and losing home court is a huge mountain to overcome.

Jesus, if they go down 2-0, going back to Ottawa, the talk shows will be nuts around here and people will be on the bridges. Not to think they couldn't pull it off, but it's uncharted territory for this team which I don't think I want to see.

I'm going to have to watch game 3 on Wednesday at a sports bar in Detroit. That could get ugly.

Thanks. They HATE Crosby up there. They're still pissed that the Pens won the '09 Cup on their ice.

bunch of Seattle-esque whiners. They won in '08. Funny that all Jacket and Crapital fans are pulling for the Sens now. Must be how it goes. "They beat us, so F 'em!" We are like that, too, I suppose.

uh-oh

Patric Hornqvist, Carl Hagelin may miss Game 2 for Penguins

Forwards each game-time decisions against Senators, did not participate in optional morning skate

Coach Sullivan: "Everybody will be a game-time decision tonight."

First things first. Shoot the ******* puck! Stop trying to sneak passes through a maze of players for the pretty goal, I'm talking to you Sid. KISS

We've been out-shot in 12 outta 13 games now!
