2016 Pirates thread

4 game skid now that they lost tonight. This team is too inconsistent and gimmicky at times.

They are just good enough to make you think they have a chance, but nowhere near good enough to contend for a championship.

Pirates are having a rough season. They appeared to be dead in the water then next thing you know they are back in the wild card. Now they are going back down again. A couple of those marlin games are going to give them nightmares if they miss out on the wildcard by 1-2 games. The good news is if they get in the wildcard game there does not appear to be that unhittable dominant pitcher they usually face. If they can get in this might be the year they move on, but it is a huge if right now

This has been a pretty frustrating season.

They're still winning more than losing and still have a great shot at getting into the playoffs; however, if one were to tell me that the likes of McCutchen, Liriano and Cole would have contributed to the club to the poor extents they have, with the team remaining in post season contention , I would have said he was crazy.

The Pirates have depth, largely reflected in how the likes of Taillon, Kuhl, and Bell have performed, with Meadows and Glasnow getting close.

I'm open to trading both McCutchen and Cole this winter, as the Pirates have shown that they can put together winning performance without them, and if they play their cards right, they can get some amazing young talent in return.

I'm not sure what the hell is up with Cole. Is he just not as good as projected? It sure seems that when things aren't going right, it gets in his head really bad.

I don't think Cole is a real ace. I mean he is solid, but has not gotten it done in the playoffs and like buster said things seem to get in his head. He is super competitive which is good and maybe he is pressing too hard. Another option is he just does not care this year because the pirates are trying to play contact games.

If they take 4 from the brewers they will win a playoff spot. .. lol

He gets rattled too easily.

If a couple runners gets on base against him, he gets frustrated and over uses his fastball, trying to overpower everyone. He has an elite fastball, but major leaguers will hit it, if they're not kept off balance with softer stuff.

Compare him to the likes of Taillon and Kuhl. When those two get in tough spots, they maintain their composure.

Cole has struggled all season. Bad bad pitching all season long. That's this teams make or break this season

Well they accomplished the impossible! Nice rebound from the Marlins debacle.

Nobody else is setting the world on fire right now so maybe there is still hope.

Still hope........but pitching. I'm confident though

Anyone else stay up late to watch the debacle last night? Pretty sad when you can tag Arietta for 6 and still figure out a way to lose the game.

When John Wehner was bragging about how good the bullpen has been after Polanco hit the home run to give them a 3 run lead, I knew we were screwed.

I know this was mostly on Feliz but I do not like Watson as the closer. And I Locke really gave a valiant effort to hang on at the end.

I believe the Melancon trade has already cost them 3 wins, including Monday night.

Figured they would get swept after they threw everything but the kitchen sink at Chicago in game 1. Still battled hard last night though.

Bucs gave up 3 hits last night and lost 1-0 to the Brewers. Pack up your **** boys, the playoff run has come to an end.

Well looks like I missed absolutely nothing over the holiday weekend since they are 2 innings away from getting shelled by the Cards and falling below .500 again....

I see they took a nice beating from the Brewers again yesterday too.

Thank god football is starting up and hockey is just around the corner.

the wheels have fallen off. Seven in a row is the turning point of the season and it's not a good point. Losing 1-0,10-0 and 12-6 is as bad as it gets! No pitching, run support or help anywhere. NFL is starting at the right time!

This team has a lot of young talent. Hopefully they can put it all together in the near future.

Looks like they are packing it in down 5-0 already in the 3rd tonight.

I turn it on in the 9th just in time to see Watson blow the save with 2 outs and a 0-2 count on Carpenter...You know, try to alleviate some of the pain and frustration of watching the whole game....lol

Like I was saying the other day about Watson as the closer.....

******* ouch.

so....Cutch for Yelitch and the Marlins top AAA starter?

it's offseason.

There no way we'd get Yelich for Cutch at this point. Yelichs signed for cheap thru 2022. Probably makes sense to keep Cutch for 2017 and hope that he rebounds. If we're having another mediocre season he could be traded around the all star break to make room for a hopefully ready Austin Meadows. Cutch has gotta get out of CF as well. His defense there is really bad and has been trending downward for 3 seasons. He should be in either RF or LF with Marte in center. Would be nice if Polanco could actually put together a full season next year as well.
