2016 Pirates thread

Taillon wasn't terrible

but the bullpen is.

Hurdle deciding to have Hughes face Conforto is criminally stupid.

Conforto's splits:

vs. Righties: .294/.370/.589 with 12 2B's and 9 HR's
vs. Lefties: .095/.133/.095 with no XBH's.

No, I am not making those numbers up to make Hurdle look bad - they are accurate. A .959 OPS vs. righties and .228 vs. lefties.

So bring in Watson, or even stupid Luebke? Nope. He brings in the right-*******-hander.

Jesus Christ, if that is not a spot for Luebke, he needs to be OFF THE TEAM!!

got Mr, Locke today.

I dunno...the bullpen blows except for Shark and Feliz.

and there ain't **** at Indy.

maybe Arrieta and Lester blow rotator cuffs.

Feliz served up that 3 run homer to Carpenter last night that cost them the game. I was surprised that Watson didn't beat him to it...Then Nicasio lets a pitcher pinch hitting in the 12th drive in 2 runs for christ sakes. Holiday described the 456ft. shot off of Liriano tonight as "batting practice" lol.

Glad I didn't watch the debacle tonight.

I know it's only mid-June, but with the way the Cubs are playing, it sure is looking like they will be fighting for a wildcard from July on.
As Yogi Berra said..."It's getting late early".

The Bucs are dead, Jim

Not sure it is all that sad. That hitting is going to be around for a number of years. The pitching is behind because it is in the minors.
I believe Taillon could be up by this weekend. If they remain patient, Taillon might be the only one up before September.

Next year Meadows, Bell, Glasnow and Kuhl will be up in June. They are being set-up by mid-year 2017 to be
one of the best teams in baseball with at least a 6 year run at a championship. The plan could be to have Taillon, Glasnow and Kuhl
at the top of your rotation for 6/7 years, moving Marte to center, Polonco to left and Meadows slipping into right, Bell at first with two coveted
trade chips in McCutchen and Cole to bring in the finishing touches on a Championship team.

I really wonder if they will have the balls to trade both Cutch and Cole soon. But it's something that needs to happen for the growth of the team. El Coffee, Marte, Bell, Meadows are the future of this team's offense and Glasnow will hopefully start to sharpen his command

The Pirate ship is sinking faster than the titanic but now all of the homers will start blaming injuries. This ship was taking on lots of water long before I hurt bug set in. This team is done.

Pirates problem is pitching. Still standing by that

....but do agree with hook

Searage's Pitcher Lab just doesn't have enough mojo this year.

man, does the bullpen suck.

it's really too bad Todd ain't around to enjoy this thread.

the pitching outside of Shark, Cole (see ya in a couple weeks, big guy) and Taillon (so far) is abysmal.

and I still say something ain't right with Cutch, I don't think it's his thumb.

Locke blows. I've seen t-ball stands that were better pitchers.

The Pirates season to this point represented on film:

I was thinking more like a college prospect. That's as good as they're gonna get.

If you refuse to take a stab at acquiring a veteran and rely on farm team to bolster your roster you will continually be rebuilding. That is pirates.

Time to take a look at Glasnow and Kuhl if there is any chance of salvaging the season.

There's the difference between the Pirates and Penguins. With a strong group of players in place, the Pens GM always was looking to add talent to compete for a championship. Sure it didn't always work out, but three Stanley Cup appearances and two titles since 2008 is darn good. Pirates had the chances to make the moves to try to put this team over the top and didn't. Sure they still have a chance to turn it around and succeed in the future, but those were missed opportunities.

I agree with this. They still had a chance to compete this season, but they did nothing to improve. The actually regressed. Now we will be fighting just to stay ahead of the Brewers. Yet the homers will say we are rebuilding. Give me a break. I've heard that for over 30 years now. Until the owner decides to lay out some cash, almost is the best we can hope for.

they'd have a better pitching staff if they could just set up a Juggs machine on the mound.

Nicasio gettin lit the **** up again.

Niese has now given up more homers than Walker has hit. No matter how some of you die hards try to spin it, that was a horrible trade.

I am in total agreement with this and am still having a hard time with this trade. That move showed me that nothing has changed about this team. The coming years will only further validate this when its contract time for Cutch and Cole.

Re comparisons to the NHL and/or the NFL ...

MLB does NOT HAVE A ******* SALARY CAP.

The Pirates have the lowest ticket prices in MLB, and a conservative return on their local television deal. The team adds payroll every trade deadline (for five years running), but cannot spend on top-tier free agents.

Seriously, the team does not have the goddam money to spend $18 million on one freaking starting pitcher. Instead, they are growing their own aces - Cole, Taillon and Glasnow. They will fill out the staff with solid arms that nobody would confuse with a #1 - Liriano, or Kuhl, or whoever.

Just the way it is.

The team has two potentially elite hitters in the minors in Bell and Meadows. They already have what I consider to be two elite bats in the majors (Polanco and Kang) as well as some pretty damn good supporting bats in Marte and Harrison.

Cutch? I don't know any more.
