Murray let in another goal... 4-3 loss at home to the Rangers. Still they get a point and get to play the Islanders. This team just doesn't look like a championship team to me. Bad defense, turnovers and tons of shorthanded goals.

Groundhog day again. Short handed goal and lose in OT. The theme of the season. Oh well. We at the very least they get 4 more games on the season. I hope the team I saw play great for spurts shows up and stays.
Isles it is.
We'll see if they have a different demeanor in the playoffs as this series can go either way

They play like that, they are gonna get sent home 4-0. As it is, I say Isles in 6. Hate that I feel that way, but this game counted and they just played like ****. Maybe they didn’t care who they played in round 1 and decided to coast. Either way, they gotta be better than that. There is nothing that indicates they have a long run in them this year. I guess anything can happen, but I’m not real optimistic at this point.
This years team isn't a deep playoff team.
Don't expect much. I'm just happily enjoying another post season appearance.

It's really simple things they need to commit to. The powerplay,not being a liability. Shoot the damn thing when you're open. Commit to defense. Don't worry about creating artwork when trying to score.
It honestly looks like it's Tampa Bay's cup to lose this year. Just by the regular season. Unfortunately many super teams during that period go down in flames. That in itself gives me a little hope. The Pens have enough talent. They'll need to play at a sustained championship level to get it done.
The Pens will go as far as Murrays play allows them..
As long as the shots don't go to his glove side. He is really weak on the his left. Especially high.

"Shirts off their Backs" is one of the best traditions in Pittsburgh Sports. We didn't win anything but did stay for the ceremonies. When Jake scored his 40th and Sid got the assist, it was the loudest I can remember in years. Great moment...... then people started going home.
Pens 100 Points, Sid 100 points, Jake 40 goals. I wanted to see these boxes checked and they were. Essentially all on the same goal..... then people started going home.
I think Murray and Malkin will be the keys to any type of run.Murray has played well and I hope it continues. Malkin has played lousy and he knows it. His comments were the playoffs are a fresh start and he must do better. Sid has had the team on his back almost all year. I don't like the match up with the Isles but I'm calling Pens in six.

The biggest concern I have with this team is the mistakes. Not mistakes in general, because all hockey teams make mistakes. My concern is that this team makes the same mistakes over and over. Now is not the time to be working on your game. The kinda mistakes the Pens make should have been ironed by now. I am going to try and just enjoy the ride as far as it goes. Just stinks, because I feel like they are capable of being excellent far more consistently. See what happens come Wednesday I guess.
The roster is close to being a great team again.
The Florida guys have really solidified a glaring issue that Brassard and Sheahan had.
I liked Sheahan too, but Bjugstad and McCann provided the defencies in that area.
As much as I like the grittiness of Wilson, Pettersen and Hornqvist.
It will not be enough to overcome physical teams like the Caps or CBJ.
There're still a few defencies that need to be addressed in the offseason.
Until then, just enjoy the ride Sarge. It's been a weird season.

I'm satisfied to a point. Where I'm not is the under performers. Kessel while at PPG coughed up so many turnovers. Same with Malkin. Had these two played just a tiny bit more intelligently. We would be sitting at the top of the Metro. Thinking back, add in McCann and Bjugs, Gudbranson I wonder where we would be.
This team is pretty solid on paper. With everyone healthy they can beat anyone. I agree it will be a great 1st round. I hope there is a second.

My mind says Isles in 7 my heart says Pens in 6. The PP is not good right now and they give up shorthanded goals like they are candy. The Isles have speed and the pens struggle with fast teams. It will be a fun series.

If the Pens cough up another shorty at home. You will be reading about the guy that took a dive out of Section 218 Row A. Talk nice about me after I'm gone.
I don't think the Isles are as good as their record indicates. Murray is a better goalie and the Pens have scorers. THe Pens will slow down the speed of the Isles. If they steal one of two on Long Island, the Pens should dispose of them 5 or 6 games.
I see a series like the one against the Senators the other year where they couldn't score and got frustrated as hell. They better not let the Islanders jump out to early leads and Murray better be great. Also better not go down a game or 2 in the series early on....

The Pens will have to control the line 2 transition turnovers (Hello Geno and Phil). Malkin admitted in an interview that he hasn't had the best year. If he comes out as the beast he is capable look out. He considers the playoffs as a new beginning.
