2018-19 Penguins and NHL Offseason

Phil B nailed it when he pretty much said there are several uncoachable players on this team. I think we know who they are

I'd like to see Winnipeg or St. Louis. Series is either way.
Or MAF's and Reaves knights.

I'll be pulling for Carolina due to proximity and their playoff crowd last night impressed me but I doubt they have the horses to beat the Caps. Wouldn't mind seeing CBJ give it a good run.

I'll be pulling for MAF in the West.

Anyone other than the Caps or Nashville will work for me.

Yeah the same ones making the same stupid mistakes over and over again.

Twas a fun season with all you SN folks as always.
Pens gave us plenty of frustration this season lol.

Enjoyed it MTC.. Sorry it ended so damned early but at least we had a few extra games,, I was beginning to wonder there for awhile.

I get mad when I see Reaves and Flower on that team...haha. I could certainly root for them.

Hey look on the bright side,,,there's only 14 weeks until training camp starts

In like a lamb, out like a lamb

Oh well, at least we not the Bolts, they got ******* hammered again lol

Could you narrow it down? I don't live in the burgh and I have no idea who they are talking about?

Ill start with the list of high $$$ payers that need to go.

Malkin.....Making more a year than Crosby....Seriously? 9.5 million to watch him glide all over the ice and eventually turn the puck over. Could have had a goal if he had not tried to hot dog tonight and passed that puck.....
Kessel....Actually did turn it up some at the end of the year but not worth the money anymore to wait for playoff Phil to show up.
Letang....Injury prone now...I sure hope he was injured or something against the Isle's because he cost them at least 2 games in the series.
Maatta....No explanation needed.

These past two seasons have been a broken record.
The roster is butchered with no clear identity. Sullivan is working with dull tools.

Couldn't agree more. Sid was misused, too. Sully may be gone this off season.

IF he was the one responsible for getting rid of the grit we had a few years ago then I'm all for it but I think they need to also ship off the overpriced dead wood playing for him. Heck the Pens were better off when half the team was callups from WBS.

I was traveling all day, so I missed the game. Sounds like I should be glad I did.

Yep you didn't miss much. Started off strong and then pretty much the same old song for the remaining 59 minutes.

I'd have to guess this is their worst playoff record in the history of the franchise

3. Letang
4. Kessel
5. Jack Johnson

Some are for stupid play. The others for cost vs production. I'm kind of on the fence with Kessel.
And Murray needs to play a hell of a lot better.

I'm sure others may want to add to the list. It's been 2 years of downturn now. The ship is on the seabed .

Failure to adapt as your strength changes is a recipe for disaster. One and done as many of us expected. I don't think anyone expected a sweep. On a positive, look at all the money I saved on playoff tickets.

I'm not joining another teams bandwagon this year. I'm going to sit back and watch hockey. Enjoy the story as it unfolds. I am in full anyone but the caps mode.

Thanks to everyone that posted and made this season a little more fun. It's nice to have a placed to chat about the Pen and enjoy the season. Not to worry, we'll get 'em next year !

The last Cup run we had, I knew going into the playoffs that we were going to take it. That was with the HBK line going full bonkers against every team. This year, I had no such expectations at all. I felt we were fortunate to make the playoffs. So this early dismissal doesn't shock me. My only hope was that some twist of fate would spark a turnaround. I am still waiting.

What is shocking is Tampa Bay's performance. Those fans have got to be shell shocked, and the disappointment factor has to be off the charts. I wonder if this franchise will recover from this.

I look at the Isles and they are not super talented, but they bought into a structure and system that worked for them. They make you make mistakes and then capitalize on them and the Pens couldn't adjust. They continued to cough up the puck and made it rather easy for NYI. NYI are fast enough and good enough to hold onto a 2-1 lead through over 20+ minutes of hockey. They got some chances, but they were just waiting for the turnovers and odd-man rushes. Murray really did keep them in most of the games, as he was left out to dry.

The Pens need structure. They need speed and toughness. If they can't adjust, it's time to bring in players that can.

We kinda knew from what we seen all season what the Pens were. Can you just imagine if the Pens steam rolled through the season, won the President's trophy then got manhandled like that. After watching TB all year I thought nobody in the East could hang with them come playoff time.

It really sucked to not get at least 1 win but at least the ship is not on the rocks and the hull is intact unlike a few other teams that missed the playoffs. I think the ship can be re-floated with some personnel and scheme changes. Mario won't let the ship get up on the rocks.

Not that he is going anywhere, but it appears that Crosby could be added to the list of un-coachables as well. I kept hearing that Sully wanted his players to pepper the net with pucks yet they kept up with the passes to try and get that perfect goal, Sid was just as guilty of that as the others and if the captain does it, I'd imagine it makes it that much easier for other players to follow his lead. Several times I was able to see what appeared to be a good shot on goal but often he would pass it to whoever was on the other side of the net for the "better" shot. The Isles would then inevitably break up the pass.

How can you not have Crosby on that list??? The captain of the team, arguably the best player in the world and he had what 1 assist in the series and a minus 4 or something, missed a wide open net in game 4.

Why did they sign Horny to five years if they aren't even going to play him top 6?
Simon with Sid? Really???? Although, per Madden who knows more about this team than most, says Sid doesn't like to play with Horny, but Sullivan needs to tell him to damn bad, you'll play with who I tell you to. at least play Horny and Geno. It was a mistake sending Haegs away too.

I think it was Rust that said the coaches were preaching patience over and over and the players did not listen. Is this a coaching issue or just stupid players? I find it hard to blame coaching when the players are not doing what they are told. Of course you could sit players who are not following directions, but are you going to bench guys like Letang and Geno?

I call getting swept round one and not even being remotely competitive sitting on the seabed. I suppose maybe that's a little much.

Guys I would maybe trade away? Crosby would not be on that list. He may very well be a pain in the *** set in his ways.

Crosby did absolutely jack **** and everyone still stuck to trying to be ******* fancy. They looked like a complete clusterfuck. Like a monkey trying to **** a hockey puck.

Maybe it's time for a new coach? GM? They sure messed up a good thing when it wasn't needed.
