2018-19 Penguins and NHL Offseason

All the plans are set for us next week. Price on the Cambria hotel next to the arena dropped a bit so I booked it. Going to be nice to have a room so close. No fighting post game traffic. Now we just need a win next Friday.

Good for you ! Cambria is pretty nice. We'll be going Monday so the wife can complete her bobbleheads.
 
Wife and I are sporting our Letang jersey's for tonight after all it is Letang bobblehead night. I'm looking forward to some home ice hockey !


I thought Letang and Crosby represented the Pens pretty damn well at the NHL All-Star game. Sid can now add an All Star MVP to his vast trophy collection. I'm not much for All Star games but I thought the 3 on 3 was actually pretty good. One thing for sure, Kendall Coyne sure can fly !

We're becoming a country club again.

Hopefully Rutherford has something up his sleeve in the coming weeks
 
giving up short handed goals again won't cut it. 3-1 debils. Pens are getting shots but can't get anything in the net.
 
Murray's given up 4 and sitting back in the crease. Hopefully this is not him falling back into bad habits.
 
4-1? Christ we waited 2 months since the last home game for this steaming pile they are leaving on the ice?
 
I don't have the patience for these guys tonight. I'm checking out of this game lol.

I checked out after it was 4-1. The Pens checked out about 2 weeks ago.
 
So tired of watching Malkin and Kessel just go through the motions. That has to wear on the guys who work hard every game and then watch them give up easy passes and again just go through the motions.

I'd put the two of them in a package deal for some hungry young players that will help rebuild the core of the team. Addition by subtraction
 
You're crazy JMM. Too much skill there. Light a fire under them. Make them a healthy scratch. But get rid of them? Not unless we got McDavid.

We checked out in the second intermission.
 
Talk about a horrible game. The one thing that pisses me off is the lack of effort. They were pushed around, lost more puck battles than I could count and no forechecking. I could go on but reading everyone's comments pretty well sums it up.

Jack Johnson hurt. He didn't play at all in the 3rd. Sorry he got hurt but he needs to sit out a few. Of course we traded Oleksiak in the same day. This clears 2.1M in cap space and it better be well spent. I guess this will put Ruhwedel back in the line up. Shultz is still week to week and hasn't practiced with the team yet.

Brassard got the 5:00 major for elbowing. It wasn't elbowing, maybe boarding. Either way a bloody injury will draw a major. The added misconduct seemed a little excessive.

Once again a Pittsburgh team loses badly to a last place team. I think Sully was wearing shades tonight.

Better do something. Too much talent and salary just wasting away while the clock ticks on the Crosby era.

The lack of effort was concerning.
Then to top it off they realize they need to score within the last 2 minutes.

Was watching Pens post game. Crosby was pissed.
Pretty rare to hear Sid call out his team over coming from the bye flat and no sense of urgency.
 
I didn't see the post-game with Sid, but if anyone can light a fire, it's him. What did they say, 25 goals in five games given up? Not good. They are getting man-handled and it's not close. Kessel and Malkin are just skating around like Dorothy Hamill out there. The PP is terrible, gave up another SHG. I don't ever that being a problem, but it's glaring. Matt Murray looked shaky, too. I am hoping it's a rust factor, but NJ sure didn't look it.
 
I cannot explain Geno. Guy has been pedestrian all year AT BEST. Makin is -20 on the year and Kessel is -15. And yet both of them have 53 points. I am not sure what is going on with those two, but if the Pens are going to do anything this year, they need Kessel and Malkin rowing in the same direction as everyone else.
 
1-7-1 against last place teams is inexcusable. Convert 5 of those loses to wins and where would they be ? All the team post game interviews that talk about lack of energy, lack of engagement, compete level, again inexcusable. Leading the damn league will 11 short handed goals against, yep inexcusable.


Malkin is pressing and his confidence is shot., Yet he still putters along at a point a game pace. Your going to laugh but he hasn't been right since he was left off the NHL Top 100 list. He has only gone downward since Hagelin was traded. His +/- is worse this year than his entire career put together. I have no doubt he will regain form but it needs to be soon.

I complained about Sully earlier in the year and here we are. I still have faith but it's dimming., The desire to step away from physical players baffles me. Cole, Reaves and now Oleksiak all had roles. The Pens aren't the quickest team in the league any longer. They are not hard to play against. If you can't use speed to advantage. then you need to be disruptive.
